Just noticed a really interesting page that you can access right at the bottom of the landing page. It's the forum stats, makes for some fun reading. Here's the link directly to the page.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats

* First thing that caught my eye is that even though it originally started as a Bitcoin forum (I guess obviously), the top 3 boards are now all altcoin related, with Bitcoin Discussion creeping in at number 4.

* Second thing was that at the current rate of new registrations, the number of members will hit 2 million in just under a month's time!!

* And lastly, when the forum first started (or at least the stats were first recorded) back in November 2009, there were just 9 topics created (compared to 21,168 now), containing 37 posts (compared to 752,589), with 4 new members added (compared to 63,756). The latest figures available for these comparisons are December 2017 - presumably the figures are added on a semi regular basis, as the rest of the stats listed seem to be right up to date.

Loads of other interesting nuggets on there too. Got to say congratulations to the forum creators, and also ask what are we going to do to celebrate when the forum hits 2 million members? Cheesy

NB. These snapshots were all taken just before the time of this post.

lets see who will be the smart successful guy/group that creates us a more general and neutral cryptoeconomics forum, it looks as if god shows everybody this opportunity to find the smart and capable group/person to just grap it.
as all those altcoiners that seriously want to develop cryptoeconomics are secretly pissed off of this forum and only use it because they have currently no better choice.

For your info, there is already more than 2 Million members registered in the forum. You can find out more about it here.

Also you can check out Vod's site about some pretty cool statistics of Bitcointalk here. It tries to calculate how much active members we have on the forum and it has some per user stats as well.

Ah cool. Thanks for the links, guess I was looking at outdated data, still found it interesting though. Recognise quite a few of the the most merited users, not surprisingly I suppose, given that I always see their names popping up on the forum. As mentioned on Vod's site, still just under 100,000 away from 1 million active users, so I guess that would be the next (real) milestone, before the end of the year?

Even without looking at the adstats page, I guess it is fairly obvious that a lot of the 'members' are not 'real members'. The rate of growth is still impressive though, and as much as they may have been optimistic, I doubt the creators envisaged anything like the number of visitors they now get on a daily basis. There are other forums out there which haven't enjoyed anywhere near this amount of success, and unfortunately with success comes all the downsides mentioned, like bots/spam etc. It'll be interesting to see the numbers again in a few months time, especially if the market goes on another bull run later this year.

Need a nice avatar, can someone help :-)
We do have a big community however, I wouldn't take the total number of members seriously as most of them are bots, banned or no longer active. I prefer looking at the Adstats to have a more accurate number of the community growth.
Then there are almost 1 million legit members according to the adstats not saying it's less in anyways but it's just weird to see from just 4 members in 2009 it has reached to a million same as the price of the coin
