hee-ho.
Maybe so, but the thing is, forum rank doesn't mean anything. If a reputation-based system was implemented for the voting, then that would mean something (an extra un-abusable idea would need to be added as well) about the user.

high forum rank means you've been here for a long time. high reputation means [some] people likes your posts. both means something and can be bought.

I guess both can be abused. but why should we create a new feature for something that can be done with an already existing feature?
in short: I don't think the reputation system is needed. that is unless it have other benefits.

the upvote feature sounds like a good idea to me Shocked . it would help fade out all the bad comments or spam that people have been posting.
highly hope this is implemented.

the reputation system itself can be abused. I think rank limit is a must in order to prevent abuse.
However, a rank limit can easily be abused also, what with buying and selling accounts.

yes. but at least the abusers have to pay. or wait if they decide to farm accounts.

I like that idea. I wasn't very much in favor of the whole "rank limit" suggestion if this was included in the new forum, because rank really doesn't mean anything. A points system, though, would make it so that it wouldn't be so abusable.

How about instead of reputation we use ranks to allow voting.
You need to be a junior member to upvote and you need to be a full member to downvote.

Basically, you need a starting of 15 "reputation" before you can start upvoting , after 50 reputation you can start downvoting as well. But downvoting decreases one reputation from you for every answer as well. Its more complex but this is just the basic idea

If the feature is implemented, I will come back to your post and upvote you. Wink

That is prone to abuse if we let users of low ranks upvote.
As long as there is no option to downvote it couldn't hurt if it was properly implemented.
I think that could be implemented according to stack exchange's votes, very complicated and may stop abuse of votes

Can you elaborate on that? I'm not familiar with how exactly StackExchange works.

I wasn't in favor of it before but after checking few forums with this option, users would avoid posting "I agree with you" "+1" and so on. It would tend to decrease the activity of the forum but spam would be reduced atleast. However, I don't want it to become a "Popular" kinda trend where users start asking people to like their post.

Making an upvote button increases discussion on the forum.
You mind telling me why you think this?
In other forums where an upvote has been introduced the discussion hasn't changed at all. In fact, it decreased because of the lack of '+1' posts.

Really? Can you tell me where you got that nice little statistic? Roll Eyes

Also, this is already being discussed in Vod's thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/can-we-like-a-post-622992

It's not a statistic, its obvious.
