I'm rarely at home, and when I am, I hardly ever use my laptop anymore; thus, my phone is the go-to option. While it may not feature a mobile version, I'm totally fine with that. It may only be an issue if I'm creating a large topic with sources and photos that need to be arranged in order to be aesthetically pleasing and easier to lay out the paragraphs. Simple replies ranging from 50 to 200 words or even more are just fine; longer ones may simply take a little longer to write.

I've seen other forums using specialized software for mobile phones such as Tapatalk, which is convenient but, in my opinion, not necessary.

Some people says it suck some people say its better, Im actually prefer on desktop but it is very much possible I work on a phone as well. There is always plus and minus on every thing Grin
Sure, nothing is perfect. I agree with you, dude.  Smiley
I also prefer to use my laptop/PC, I rarely use my smartphone. Of course, there is some limitation on a smartphone because it has a smaller/narrower screen. Smartphone also has fewer features, that's why we can't expect the same performance as we use a laptop/PC. So, if we want better performance, ideally we use a laptop/PC. But if we aren't at home or outside, we can use a smartphone because it is difficult to bring a laptop/PC.

I am comfortable on both mobile and PC but I use my laptop for browsing the forum It is easy for me to type on the keyboard. I can type fast both on my keyboard and phone.
I'm sure the mobile device you are using is also quite good and has a large enough display. or your fingers which may be flexible enough not to be bothered by the mobile keyboard which is quite small in my opinion.
most of the distracted are those who type using mobile keyboards, especially those with fat fingers. it is very uncomfortable.
whereas if only to access forums and read, using a mobile is not a problem although some users of course have to zoom in to get a fairly clear view. especially for those who already have vision problems.

It works perfectly fine on my Android phone except for the fact that whenever I want to post or maybe read some comments I have to set my phone on auto-rotate then reduce the Zoom and am good to go. It makes me feel like am using my PC to access this forum but I still don't know why I prefer using my phone more than my PC🤔.

and yes you need rotate or zoom in sometimes  Cheesy i feel it too, but the big advantage is we can post at anytime without carry a heavy things like laptop

On the forum, I find it more convenient to use my mobile phone rather than my PC. My favorite experience has been with my mobile phone. I can type faster on a phone keyboard than on a PC keyboard, so I don't bother with a PC. If I ever have to do something that necessitates the use of a PC, I may switch, but for the time being, my mobile phone is the best option for me to use here in the forum because it does all of the basic things I need to do here without stress.

Maybe this is your first time using mobile phone, but try and navigate through the forum for some days with it, you’ll definitely enjoy using the mobile phone too in the forum.
Using bitcointalk on the phone is ok. Though it the forum is not optimized well for mobile I can use it very well. It is just a matter of habit, OP may be using this forum with his phone for the first time, it will take time to adjust on mobile interface.

I am comfortable on both mobile and PC but I use my laptop for browsing the forum It is easy for me to type on the keyboard. I can type fast both on my keyboard and phone.

Do you all view Bitcointalk on you PC? I have tried to read thorugh the mobile phone, but it becomes an endless hortizontal scrolling.
Do you have any tips how to mingle on Bitcointalk with my phone?
I use chromium to browse bitcointalk on mobile and it works fine for me whenever I feel it's difficult to read I use the zoom-in and zoom-out features and it makes sense too because the screen is smaller in size on smartphones compared to desktops along with there is no bitcointalk version available to optimize the site according to your device specs.

You can use the landscape mode to get better coverage but I am not comfortable with it so I use zoom alone but my suggestion is you will get used to it once you have become familiar with bitcointalk.

I rarely use my phone for posting activities except to review the latest information, so even if you have activated the rotation of the phone for horizontal mode but we find it uncomfortable to zoom to read words and typing in mobile keywords is very annoying.

I found an extension for the firefox browser to change the appearance of the bitcointalk website to be mobile, in my opinion the extension works well to change the appearance to be responsive for mobile. Extension owner is Fahbil also bitcointalk forum user so I'll quote the main thread posted.

Note : I've never used this extension because I'm a PC user, so please research before you install the extension.

Bitcointalk does not have a mobile view a lot of members to proposing to have this but some of them want to stick where it starts, there's nothing wrong with it, only way to make it is to pinch your screen to zoom in, also developing for the mobile view makes the hassle to the dev too since people here already used to it.

That's right. Bitcointalk does not have a mobile version, but you can still access it on your phone by using a mobile web browser. Some users prefer to use browser extensions such as "Reading Mode" or "Reader View" that can make the website more mobile-friendly. Additionally, you can try using a third-party app such as "Tapatalk" which allows you to access some online forums, although I'm not sure if Bitcointalk is still supported. I think I read somewhere that it doesn't work anymore.

Wouldn't the third party app be a treat to the user's password or private information in the forum. I've seen one in the forum that was said to be vulnerable in keeping user's details safe. I may not recommend third part apps for an anonymous a forum like BTT. However using the forum with a small screen resolution phone dulls the impression of staying to read responses word for word in the forum. I don't use it because of my eyes, those tiny writings on phone are not good for my sights. Though, when it's relevant to use the forum with a phone I'd do that, but that won't be when I have a PC around. The question should be would you use a phone to access the forum even when a PC is with you?

Not sure I'd even consider my phone secure enough, let alone the usability aspect. The only time I attempted to use the forum on a phone for writing was when I was traveling years ago. Not sure how some of you do it, even with a built in app SMF in particular would be difficult to build for.

Dunno, I consider opposite. Windows are targetted more than mobiles and if you use iOS device it's even more secure compared to android.
When I use mobile phones to access campaign spreadsheets, I usually run into the same problem. It takes longer to load and display all information in the spreadsheet. I have the Google Sheets App installed on my phone, but I still have the same problem, though not with all spreadsheets, just a few of them. I haven't tried opening those spreadsheets on a PC yet; perhaps it will be much easier to do so there.
It's because your phone has limited hardware, and your computer is both faster in terms of CPU speed, and likely RAM. Unless, you have a particularly limited computer, that is. Loading spreadsheets with more data will take a lot more resources.

I'd disagree. Phone hardwares have developed significantly in last few years, sheet loading problem is likely related to software than hardware.

I don't even rotate, just zoom in/out in portrait mode, haven gotten so used to it ain't even conscious of it.

I spend the majority of my time on BTT using my phone, and the experience has been fantastic. In comparison to a PC, I wouldn't say there are many differences that make one feel uneasy or provide a poor user experience. Although it may be your first time, the experience with a mobile phone is relatively similar to that of a PC.

It's different cus you'll have to pinch to zoom out and in as the case might be( this happens when using phones). I also realized that I wasn't able to view some spreadsheets while using my mobile phone to access BTT, has anyone gotten some irregularities like that before?

Sandra 🧑‍🦰

If you have the Google Sheets app installed on your phone, you should have no problem accessing those kind of spreadsheets from your phone either. Which also includes pretty much every signature campaign spreadsheet.

There are many different approaches and ideas. I use the forum from time to time on my mobile devices and with a little practice it works (reasonably well).

There's no reason for me to access this forum using phone because it's not friendly, hard to quote anyone posts and doesn't comfortable to write due to small keyboard.

Access this forum using device also not good for my privacy and security, anyone shouldn't use public internet connection or access this forum in near of your friend or stranger, they might know this forum and recognize you're a Bitcoin holder.

PC is more comfortable while reading and commenting on Topics, pc's enable's you to quote very well regardless of how copious the messages would seems to be. But while using a Smartphone it looks very bulky sometimes finds it difficult to read freely with all the text., Most times i found it very hard to read all post as i do strain my eyes too much.
Mobile phone, could be for urgent response or replying some PMs.

Viewing the forum using a small screen phone is very straining to the eyes. You will need to zoom in more often if you are reading lengthy topics or following a discussion so using a mobile phone for daily use is not advisable. I'm only using my phone to check my message and have an update on the topic I'm following. I really suggest using a tablet or iPad instead for a better viewing experience if you can't afford a desktop. This will save you time on the hassle of reading text. I believe there are browsers that automatically adjusts zoom based on text size but the forum aesthetics will not be appealing to read when it was zoom to that level.

It works fine on mobile. Though I find it is a vastly superior experience on desktop. My tip would be just to save your forum experience for your desktop. There is no way you can digest or participate as much anywhere near efficiently on the phone in comparison to using a desktop in my opinion.

It's fun accessing the forum on phone. I can't even remember what the forum looks like on PC anymore. I only accessed it on it a few times when I started out in 2017 and then I turned to phone. I hate having to open my PC whenever I want to access the forum outside my home because I don't like people looking over my shoulders into what I'm doing. With my phone it's a piece of cake being on the forum. All you've to do is adjust your font size and zoom in or out while reading. With the way my keyboard is set I don't even need to zoom in to read if I don't want to as I can see the complete page that way. However, I like zooming it while I type to fasten it up.

If you can read newspaper on your phone with no problem, you can use the forum on phone with no problem.
They have websites optimized for mobile phones, while forum doesn't so its not the same thing. You can try it for yourself, just enable desktop version in your mobile phone browser and you will see the difference.

To quote several people, I'm sure that the vast majority of users don't know about the 'insert quote' link. It's not a miracle solution, but it avoids some annoying manipulations.
I am using that feature of course and while it makes multiquoting easier, it doesn't really help when you want to address certain parts of post the separately which is a pain in the ass to do on a mobile phone.

Looking at responses, I had no idea that so many people are using phones for browsing the forum. Too bad that we have to wait for Godot Epochtalk to get that.

This could be a solution, if you only want to read people posts in this forum and not want to reply, you can use the wap version by add "/;wap" in the end of url.

Example this thread the url is: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalk-on-the-phone-5434294

The wap version would be https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalk-on-the-phone-5434294/;wap

It's quite friendly on mobile version, although you need some adaptation with the interface since it's only white and black version.

I think I've become too used to autocorrect now so my issues will be the opposite if I ever turn back. I write lengthier posts on PC or more advanced ones (eg with code) but most things are doable on a phone once you're used to it.

It's totally doable when just making a simple reply regardless of length. On the other hand, if you're conversing with multiple people and quoting multiple replies and concatenating the replies and stuff, it becomes a total nightmare. Similar to when posting images.

Use landscape, scroll and zoom a bit.
And get a computer for serious tasks, typing on a keyboard the size of a stamp is terrible.

In between alterative: a tablet.
It depends on the one you use frequently. Like me I prefer mobile phone and I type better on mobile phone than computer. Bitcointalk is very good and user's friendly on mobile phone too and I type fast because the phone is well calibrated. I do not know why that I prefer to use my mobile phone for online reasons than computer, I mean the ones phone can handle perfectly like bitcointalk.

When I just want to do some simple browsing or utilize the forum, I use my smartphone, especially if I feel like relaxing on the sofa or bed. And PC if I am posting a lengthy discussion that requires for an image upload, extensive bbcode formatting, or if I have academic work to perform on my PC.

I turn my phone to landscape mode when I'm reading and to portrait mode when I'm going to reply. You just need to zoom in/out and scroll sideways a bit to see what you are writing. I mean that's better than sitting in front of your computer for a few hours using only the forum.

At first the horizontal scrolling was a pain in the ass for me but as time goes on I became familiar with it and now I don't have any issue with it even if they decide to change the user interface of the forum it will definitely take some time for users to get a hold of the new user interface. Just imagine a user that has been in this forum since 2013 and has been consistently using this present interface and now theymos decide to make a little change to the interface in 2023, 10 years after.

And beside most users, PC users to be precise prefer this current user interface they find it more suitable (that's what I can say due to the comments in all similar threads that has been created in the past). I still agree with them even though I'm a mobile phone user.

I use Opera browser on my phone, it is not troublesome to post on the forum from it, since as soon as you zoom in or zoom out, the text and the interface adapts.

I use Opera and do the same and I find it easier than using my browser on my PC too now as all the text is in one place and it'll get rid of things the PC won't when you zoom in (like the user information bits). It even puts as much as possible on the screen while you're in the editor which is very helpful (especially when using bbcode).

I usually zoom so a post text fits on the screen and it does well with that, sometimes if you do to many things at once you end up with rendering problems though and have to scroll a bit to fix them.

It's either just going to be a computer/laptop, or a tablet. Whenever I try to reply to people through my smartphone(with quoting and all that), I almost always end up wanting to knock my head against a wall.

I think I've become too used to autocorrect now so my issues will be the opposite if I ever turn back. I write lengthier posts on PC or more advanced ones (eg with code) but most things are doable on a phone once you're used to it.

OP, at what point did you realize you were not comfortable reading the forum on your phone? Why did you choose to ask this question today? Registration 2013. You're old enough for the forum to not know how to use search. Here are some of the threads that have been created on an issue that concerns you; why not read them instead of creating a separate thread on a topic that has been discussed many times?

It's either just going to be a computer/laptop, or a tablet. Whenever I try to reply to people through my smartphone(with quoting and all that), I almost always end up wanting to knock my head against a wall.

it is quite difficult if you have to type using the keyboard on the Android screen. if it's just for reading with the display on the smartphone, I have no problem. but indeed the convenience when we write with a PC or laptop keyboard is much different from a smartphone.
it does look longer when you zoom in and scroll down endlessly. but anyway if it's the only device you can use to access the forum then enjoy it.

Do you all view Bitcointalk on you PC? I have tried to read thorugh the mobile phone, but it becomes an endless hortizontal scrolling.
Do you have any tips how to mingle on Bitcointalk with my phone?

The forum works great on my phone, I'm using an android, and the only issue was the small screen compared to a desktop.

But zooming in will solve that issue and you could navigate easily with that, It's convenient for me just to use a desktop or laptop since I could easily type and focus on it. But I guess using a smartphone just has its advantage and disadvantage, I would still use my smartphone because its portable and you could bring it anywhere you want.

Have read all comments, it appears it's all about what you are used to. Pc people find mobile awkward and vice versa.

I have been using bitcointalk on phone since day of registration and can do everything, yes multi quotes are bit annoying but doable.

I use Opera browser on my phone, it is not troublesome to post on the forum from it, since as soon as you zoom in or zoom out, the text and the interface adapts.
So for example, in most of the cases, I do not need to scroll horizontally to read other's posts, only up and down, same for typing.

I find it bearable for participating around here while away during vacations.

If you can read newspaper on your phone with no problem, you can use the forum on phone with no problem.

Having an mobile application does not solve problems for typing on phone.

Installing any application on your phone is like you are adding another risk on your phone. If forum has its mobile application, I don't mind to install it on my phone too.

Like Reddit has its mobile application and it tries to force Reddit users to install the application, I personally never mind to install it.

I really have no issues when im using my phone , most times i just reading things there and not often i write something.
But as NotATether have already written i am doing the same with just zoom in then scroll around where you want it.
But the best experience is using a PC or Laptop for have no problems.

If you can read newspaper on your phone with no problem, you can use the forum on phone with no problem.
I agree on that , and that quote made me smile , thanks BlackBoss_

I am using my mobile phone to access Bitcointalk most of the time and I am just another person who also mobile phone to access Bitcointalk when I don't want to use PC. Well, it's up to you on what device you want to use either computer, laptop or mobile phone since you can use any of it because Bitcointalk forum is accessible with any of that device as long as you have internet connection. It will take some time before you are comfortable using mobile phone I think but you'll get used to it soon.

Sure, but I'm guessing OP just happens to want to access the forum on the most convenient device he has, which for most people nowadays is a smartphone.

And OP, this is a discussion topic that's sprung up dozens of times over the years at least, and I don't think Theymos is planning on creating a mobile-friendly version of the site.  Supposedly there's some new forum software in the works, but I could have written that 4 years ago....so I've got my doubts as to if the UI of bitcointalk is ever going to change (and it's fine with me if it doesn't).

It is indeed a pain in the ass to type out posts using a smartphone screen-keyboard.  I used to do it all the time, but my big fat thumbs made it a maddening experience.  I bought a mini-keyboard with a dongle that can plug into the phone, but it was still much slower than using a real keyboard with my PC.  I feel your pain, bro.

I have been using my Android mobile device to access the forum for sometime now. In the beginning it was not that easy to zoom in and zoom out or reply but after few initial hiccups it went well. Using the mobile device bring more comfort than the PC as you can sit or lie down while going through different post. I have been using both Chrome & Firefox on my mobile device.

Dude, that's really hilarious...
Just like ATether said, I'm actually using my mobile phone on this right now... I seldom use tabs and phones when my PC gets low.. yunno the regular electrical issues we've got in my country? That's what we get every other time yunno; though we've got alot of areas with contact electricity.
It's different cus you'll have to pinch to zoom out and in as the case might be( this happens when using phones). I also realized that I wasn't able to view some spreadsheets while using my mobile phone to access BTT, has anyone gotten some irregularities like that before?

I sometimes use my phone to access and post in the forum but I was frustrated maybe because I am used to using pc when accessing the forum.  It is quite annoying to zoom in and out and type in a minuscule keypad (probably because I do not use my phone regularly)  Either way I think accessing Bitcointalk on my phone would be my last resort if there is no available gadget to use.  I like the alternative stated by Loyce, the tablet since it is bigger and does not have much need of zoom in and out.

I tried using iPad and honestly wasn't much better than mobile phone. Its better for reading though, but not really when you have to answer multiple posts (which is my main problem when using mobile phone).

Whenever I am into multi-quoting, I always open a new tab for the reply I need to quote, that way it is less annoying but still annoying.  Cheesy

It takes some time to get used to zooming/scrolling but it's doable to use bitcointalk with mobile phone as well. My advice for you is to avoid multiquoting while on the phone and keep it simple. For anything more complicated I strongly suggest you to stick to PC.

Android phone here and all is fine - I'm able to view posts full width. You should check your phone's resolution, font size etc. Also try resizing/zooming out. Can't comment on iPhone or any other phone though.

80% of the time I use my phone to access the forum. I’m using my iPhone right now, it’s not as great compared to the experience when using a pc but it’s manageable. The first time can be frustrating because it’s hard to read every text because the fonts are small. I prefer to zoom than rotate my phone. I have gotten used to it. You could download script by fahbil to make your experience easier.

Use landscape, scroll and zoom a bit.
And get a computer for serious tasks, typing on a keyboard the size of a stamp is terrible.

I use bitcointalk on mobile phone on Android and it is very good. I do not like it with Google chrome but I like it with Duckduckgo. To go for other browsers that are related with google, PHX browser and Via is good for it. If you want it to adapt to your phone format and make it more friendly with your phone, use UC browser, but that is annoying for me. These are browsers I can not advice people to use too, I prefer using bitcointalk on Duckduckgo, just like it is on computer, but you will have to magnify and scroll right and left but it is fun for me as I am used to it.

This is not a topic for Bitcoin discussion board. It would fit better in Meta or Beginner's & help.

There is no mobile version of the website as yet and that's the reason for the horizontal scrolling, one has been suggested multiple times and is available on the new forum software AFAIK, but at this time it's not available yet.

It takes some getting used to if you start off using the forum on PC, but you should get a hang of it with time. I use the forum on mobile (doing so right now) and don't encounter any issues.

I'm typing this on my phone right now - Safari on iOS.

I usually just zoom in on the whole page when I want to tap something, which makes the whole experience more tolerable. Same with editing and writing posts.
