I've reported the site to Google, I hope they really do something about this.

That could have explained accounts that recently had their passwords changed.
I guess google hasn't done anything about it yet because the site is still on and working.
I wonder how many people would fall prey to this phishing site.

Besides checking the URL, the site now shows a clear sign that it is not Bitcointalk, since the first thing that pops-up is a gambling site pop-up add. It seems to me pretty dumb to try to monetarize the site and serve it’s phishing purpose. I gave it a go the day I detected it being back online, and what it does is the following:

Beware!!!!

It seems that the .to phishing version of Bitcointalk is back online today, after being down for a few months. That is likely one of the main sources for hacked accounts around here.
The crazy thing is that it now displays a gambling site popup screen, which is obviously not forum policy. Data is nearly up-to-date with forum, and is barely a day off.

I never ventured to try to log onto the .to site before, but for the sake of it, I tried now with fake data. What it does is capture your login/password, and then immediately redirect you to the proper .org version of the forum, where you are back to the login screen. The impression you get is that you are on the correct site, but suffered a connection glitch that made the site ask you for your credentials twice. The fuckers …

This issue is bought up here by many members already and most of the regular bitcointalk users would know that the only original Bitcoin forum website is "bitcointalk.org" and rest all are faked.

It is sure that most of the account hacks and info leaks happening on the forum are due to this type of "Typosquatting". Its not a new concept or a new way of spamming info, but daily millions of dollars are scammed using the same techniques on the internet.

The only way to avoid this is by pre-knowing the phishing website URL or else it could not be stopped easily. New users have higher chances of getting trapped in this.

With all respect to those who fall or have already fallen for this kind of thing - You have got to be pretty fucking stupid to not check a domain URL before you type in your details.

OP, you can make people aware of this but there is no cure for stupid I’m afraid.

I think that’s is the 3rd post this week about this...

I totally fell for the cloned site, until I realized I couldn't see your trust ratings.
I have added this line to /etc/hosts
Code:
127.0.0.1       bitcointalk.to
Now my computer can't access that phishing site anymore.
