Take it as a measure to acknowledge forum’s "old-timers". @theymos decided on that policy, and surely pondered having everyone start from scratch but decided the former was less disruptive that a fresh start for all (and everyone back to newbie status). You can’t simply trash out a ranking system and start from cero with no consequences, so I guess the lesser evil was chosen.

Over time, earned merit is being used in some discrete circumstances for features that are not influenced by the airdropped merit. For example, some campaigns require a rank but also a certain amount of earned merits, and the DT changes that are taking place right now have earned merits as part of the core algorithm.

I hope that people which didnt received merit from users will lose those merits and have only merit which they received from other users. It is not fair that some old members received a lot of merit only because they are old members. Some old members maybe didnt deserved so much merit but they still have them.

Im not even surprised why you have not rank yet because you only make post just for bounty 99% of your posts are from bounty section or ann translation threads thats why you dont know the rules how to earn merit and rank up, you must try to participate into meaningful topics and show your ideas.

I thought OP was a bought account, for I was thinking that everybody now knows what the Merit System are for, but the fact that OP is still ignorant about this I guess I was wrong or maybe they didnt care at all in the first place as long as they can get and participate to some bounty openings.

Cheers OP as you have been granted a new knowledge by JC Cool

you already earned some merits to rank up....
Those are airdropped merits that he received based on his activity when the merit system was introduced. He wasn't awarded any merits by any user ever since they were implemented.
yes mate now i came to know why he is so struggling for earning for merits lol

To get a higher rank, you need to earn merits. If you want to earn merits, how would you expect people to give you merits if you only post in bounty threads? It just shows what your sole intentions in joining Bitcointalk is. And knowing that you're actually a full member and don't know how to rank up is concerning.
You made valid points and yes that has been my intention so far but will be improving.

You have made 751 posts, and yet when I look at your post history, all I can see is the opening post for this thread. I have the underworld here on ignore, so all of your previous posts must have been made in the nether world here. If you want to increase your rank, then you can take part in the Bitcoin discussion and the political comments that will become so important over the next year or so.
Thank you boss, i have taken your point and will try to improve my posts.

Probably OP has just bought this farm account or even a hack account. Some new users had done this in order for them to get higher reward when they had done signature bounty campaign. This relatively be the result after the implementation of merit system. Will out of 1000 users we can find someone like OP. One of a kind!

If campaigns took merit into account when deciding on the stake ratios per rank, then that could go a long way to reducing spam. I’m talking specifically of earned merit whilst being on the campaign (not airdropped merit nor even already earned merit prior to participating in the campaign, although the latter could also be taken into account).

For example:

Previous earned merit                                                 earned merit during campaign
                        (0)          [1..20)      [20..100)   [100++]
Legendary:     0 Stakes      2 stakes    3 stakes   4 stakes              0,2 stake/merit
Hero:             0 Stakes      2 stakes    3 stakes   4 stakes              0,2 stake/merit
Sr. Member:   0 Stakes      2 stakes    3 stakes   4 stakes              0,2 stake/merit
Member:        0 Stakes      1 stake      2 stakes   3 stakes              0,2 stake/merit
Jr. Member:    0 Stakes      1 stake      2 stakes   3 stakes              0,2 stake/merit

<...>
The initial airdrop was a one time thing that took place upon Merit System kick-off. Those that qualified at the time  (based on their rank) got it.

OP, did you lived undervthe rock in 2018? It's almost 1 year since Merit system was introduced and you still haven't heard about it?
Based on your post history you will never reach Sr. Member rank because nobody gives merit for bounty reports and "great project" posts. But you are still lucky - you have been here long enough to get airdroped 100 merits based on your rank and you can join signature bounties. New members don't have such privilege.

Don't mind me asking, is the 100 merit thingy gone already or those who joined for 1-year are able to receive it too?

If the 'one merit rule' had been extended to include forum members who are yet to 'earn' a single merit, it would have been more effective.
Having received aridropped merits does not indemnify one who is a spammer, and if a member fails to earn a single merit  then they should lose signature privileges.

It would not be possible to demote them to newbies, as you'd have to jump them back to their previous rank once they get the requirement, but signature space can be disabled, while they retain other benefits of their rank.

Guys, i'm struggling to to understand how to get higher rank, i'm currently Full Member but dont know i can become Sr. Member.
Can anyone help?

After seeing your post I came to the conclusion that you write them only to participate in the bounty. Until you change your approach to writing posts, I think you will not get a higher rank.

Also  try to be active everyday in this forum or make at least 30-40  orginal posts per week or if you want make even more but dont spam because  people dont like that.

There's no need to make a lot of posts. Making 1 post a week as long as it's meaningful is much better. If you want to rank up, what you need to think is how to make a quality post, not how many posts you have to make per week. You can increase your activity later, it doesn't need a lot of effort to do that.

He probably already knows the answer, but he wanted +1 post.
Exactly, and not probably,he sure as hell knows the answer to his question, and the reason for this thread,i really can't place my head around it
Well OP you need to earn about a hundred and fifty more merits to rank up to snr member, and you'll have to do that making quality posts,as you wouldn't be air dropped any again.
And you definitely wouldn't be earning merits with this sort of post

The OP is one classic example why the merit system was introduce in the first place. Seems that he/she is only here in the forum to join bounties and after months of introducing the system, still he works his ass off day in/day out and now wondering why the hell I'm not ranking up. Open up a thread which obviously he can find the answer if he/she will just used the Search Function of this forum. Others have replied, but I doubt that he will rank up unless he/she ditch out his bounty whoring activity. IMHO.

Exactly that. He probably already knows the answer, but he wanted +1 post.

OP, unless you change your posting habits completly, you will not rank up. If you want to rank up, you need to study about Bitcoin and share what you have learned in good quality posts.

You are going to need to receive another 150 sMerits to get your counter up to the required 250 merits for a Sr. Member (your activity is already above 240, so that is no longer an issue).

Now the thing is that you haven’t managed to earn any merit in almost a year (aside from the initial airdrop). Getting a couple of earned merits is pretty easy if you manage to make half-decent posts, but making the 150 you require is not, especially if you restrict your posts basically to the Ann Altcoin and Bounty threads. To give you a reference, only 59 Full Members have ranked-up to Sr. Member, so that alone proves that it is not an easy feat, and that the task really requires commitment to concentrating on post content quality/interest.

The rank will be depending on your activities and merit. The bitcointalk ranks were changed recently. The activities are not enough to reach rank by rank. Because you have to get activities+merit to upgrade your rank. You have to make high-quality post to get the merit. Because the merit will be given by random forum members. If you want to know about ranks, please read this official thread Merit & new rank requirements.

Guess you must be among the lucky ones that got airdropped with merit based on their present rank when the merit system was introduced. And haven't earn any since then. To understand almost everything about ranking up visit this thread Merit & new rank requirements then search through the meta board for other thread (e.g FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit) for better understanding or read through the Useful infographics highlighted on thread
