Still have the coins in a "wrong" wallet.

Electrum do not support all coins ....

After this learning session from keys and wallets you gave us ... iT looks like That iT is smatter to change privatekeys than sending your coins...(with fee) when the receiver and recipiënt ar the same?

The multibit.key file is just a text file. You should be able to open it with Notepad (or the text editor of your choice) and see your private keys. The keys should start with a 5, K or L and look like a bunch of random characters (a bit like a bitcoin address)... something like this:

Once you have your private keys, you don't have to sweep them into Electrum... you can just import the private keys into a new wallet (see steps below). Sweeping is just recommended as it means the coins are placed into a standard HD wallet and can be recovered using just the 12 seed words used to create the HD wallet, rather than having to back up each and every private key for every address you ever use.

I would highly recommend that you do not continue to use MultiBit Classic. It is very old and is no longer maintained or supported by the developers. MultiBit HD has some major issues at the moment, so until the devs fix that, I would not recommend MultiBit HD either.

Also, please note, that importing the keys into Electrum doesn't mean that they disappear from MultiBit Classic. You're really just creating a copy. So if anything goes wrong, you'll still have MultiBit Classic as a backup. As long as you have your private keys (and no-one else does) you'll be able to access your coins.

To do an import into Electrum:

Step 1. Select "File -> New/Restore"

Step 2. Give your new wallet a name (I suggest something descriptive, so you can tell which wallet is which)

Step 3. Create the wallet file (you can change the storage location on this screen).

Step 4. Select the wallet type, I suggest you leave as "Standard Wallet"

Step 5. Select the type of keystore. Here you MUST select "Use public or private keys" to be able to import.

Step 6. Copy/Paste the private keys from your multibit.key file (NOTE: one key per line... just the key, don't include the datetimestamps at the end!)

Step 7. Create a password. (I also recommend ticking the "Encrypt Wallet File" box for added security)

Step 8. After a (hopefully short) wait... you'll see all the transaction history for all your addresses/keys

Optional: If you want to double check the addresses imported, goto the addresses tab:


If you don't see the "Addresses" tab, you can enable it using: "Wallet -> Addresses":


If you don't see any addresses on the "Addresses" tab, click the little ">" symbol(s) so they become "v" symbols

We have still not solved the problem. The Private key is not vissable in Multibit Classic 0.514. (Makes u's nerves) When we export the key it is put away in a multibit.key file.  Because we dont know the contens of the key we refuse to sweep iT in a new wallet .because if there are problems we lose everything we think.

Do,you know a good  wallet where we dont have to sweep.
electrum and multibit HD are no solutions....
Of is this normal and are we anxious for nothing?

And is iT possible to import the private key in an other wallit in multibit classic.
Maybe the coins appaer then?

Yes that's what I meant. Import your private keys to Bitcoin Core or Electrum for example and then send funds to Multibit HD (If you prefer using it as a wallet) otherwise keep them on whatever wallet you imported the private keys to.

Fortunately we stil have value!
When we read the Multibit information than iT is not possible
to import a privat key from Classic to HD.

When we read the Manuel About upping Classic to HD then there could be extra problems...
Probably you mean importing a private key to another wallet like electrum.

Or do we have the same Problems?

Multibit is not answering because they are no longer supporting that wallet, and you are still using it. Its better to go with Multibit HD. I want to know now as I'm not familiar with MAC, how those general backups work? they take backup of the full computer regularly? as long as you have the wallet file + the password used to encrypt it you should be fine. (the same case If you have private keys of your addresses)

I personally think that the easiest way would be to export the private keys from the wallet, import them to another wallet and you are good to go, this will only work If Multibit have a display issue, but If you actually spent the funds, your addresses would be empty (search for your addresses in blockchain.info and see If you still have funds in them)

Our bitcoin wallet is empty after I tried to reset it. I initially send some bitcoins tot another adres but the bitcoins were stuck. ( to low or no fee of Not yet possible very old wallet) Only 1 peer viewed them and the transaction was never approved. So I followed Multibt instructions on there internetsite tot reset blockchain an transactions. After I done that my complete wallet was empty. The only thing I see now is the transaction that I bought bitcoins in 2013, but they are not in my wallet anymore. How can I get my bitcoins back? I use an apple laptop and make generaal backups with Time Machine and I use multibit version 0.5.14.  We know its to old.


On bitcoin forums i read the following solution.
1) upgrade the wallet to higher version
2) reset blockchain and transactions

I am not sure this is THE the  solution ?
Of the savest solution...  ? -) not visable coin Total  lose by updating?

Can Someone tell u's the best proceedure?
Unfortunately Multibit is not give u's any answer......
