Same kind of problem for me, I'm really disapointed with bitfinex behaviour in handling the problem!

[Edit] problem solved, I will continue to recommand bitfinex Wink

When things are solved should be said too. I got reimbursed after a few days. What I didn't like a lot is the Welcome page when entering Bitfinex saying they wouldn't.

They are reimbursing, but they just say they aren't. This is not so professional.

On my side, they got their job done by the way.

Bitfinex communications to its customers when their hot wallet was hacked advising not to use those addresses anymore. If you sent funds to one of their old hit wallet addresses then that is on you.

Their front end support likely does not have immediate access to the private keys in their old hot wallet so it would not be unexpected for it to take a long time for them to secure funds.

Sorry but this is your fault.

Your complaints/posts about it here on bitcointalk are not going to get you anywhere.

So true. I do understand people need to vent frustrations but it will take a while before the entire matter has been resolved.

I see your point Nrcewker and Indamuck, I changed it a little bit so it may sound more fair to you.

What I meant, is I don't know and I don't care if it's the hacker or themselfs who are taking the BTC that go to their OLD HOLD-WALLET. The fact is that I'm being taken away my BTC, and that, in fact is as if Bitfinex is taking away my BTC because they're NOT giving back me the lost money nor monitoring the BTC going to their old hot wallet

Anyway still waiting a new answer from support team at Bitfinex

Kimmel - I believe that if your claim is legitimate, they will make you whole. They have a record of doing so.

At the same time, they have a small staff, and addressing this breach is taking lots of man-hours I'm sure. Be patient, document your loss, and communicate directly with them via their support e-mail. You may not get a response right away, but they do read their mail, and they do respond when they can, and it is warranted.

Your complaints/posts about it here on bitcointalk are not going to get you anywhere.

In all fairness I think the OP should amend the title of this thread. The title 'Bitfinex may be taking customer funds! is like yelling 'Fire' in a crowded theater, unfair to the business BFX has built, and to the larger cryptocurrency community.

OP - pls take a big breath and tune it down.

I'm a long-time customer there ... my account got hacked once (largely my fault) and they made me whole to the tune of about US$5k ... so they have had a lot of credibility with me.

No explanation has been forthcoming, but the brief e-mail I had with Raphael makes me think BFX is not sure the source of the hack, though (to me) it looks like some type of inside job. THAT makes BFX' issue much more difficult, because the 'virus' may still be lurking internally ... hence their ongoing silence about the issue.

It may be that this insider disposed of, or destroyed BFX' own record of the private keys for old accounts, and BFX is still trying to figure out where they went and what happened. Anyway, that is my WAG (wild-assed guess), and my current working assumption.

I love BFX product, and like i said, they have a lot of cred with me, but my concern here is that this may be an internal issue that has yet to be remedied. And until it is, further problems are possible?

I've moved the bulk of my coins out ... but expect/hope to be back in full sometime soon.

I have serious suspect that Bitfinex is not playing fairly in the hack affair.

  • Easy as this, I had some automatic withdrawals set up in some mining accounts; and 0.49073604 BTC were sent to one of the PREVIOUS - TO - HACK BITFINEX DEPOSIT ACCOUNTS: 1EPt6wdYYoEDrXedC3U6CoSPtVY2n2wrEB
  • Then, minutes after, when I realised the problem I contacted Bitfinex Support Team. Their answer was that accounts were hacked and they couldn't do anything.  Huh Huh Huh Really?
  • They say the private keys of hot wallet were compromised. That means they changed Hot-wallet and deposit accounts and stopped looking the older ones?

Maybe they got hacked, but the common sense says that as they have thousands of users many btc Deposits will keep coming even if they ask nicely to stop.

- And then, BITFINEX DO HAVE THE PRIVATE KEYS AND SHOULD CARE OF HACKED ACCOUNTS even someone else may know them too; the obvious step is to keep monitoring the accounts and TRY TO SAVE BTC FROM ITS COSTUMERS AS THEY ARRIVE. The hacked accounts are Bitfinex accounts after all

THE FACT: My 0.49 BTC were sitting nearly 3 hours in my deposit account. Nobody took care of it, until finally a withdraw was made. You can check it: https://blockchain.info/address/1EPt6wdYYoEDrXedC3U6CoSPtVY2n2wrEB

Who made this withdraw? I would love to say "the HACKER", but who really knows Huh

I have answered Support team at bitfinex asking for a new solution, even they have publicly said that they will assume the losses... but until now....just silence!....really weird...
