In addition to the entire discussion surrounding the process technology and ASIC fabrication, I'll add my $.02 on the drawing that suggests a PCIe card. The last time I saw anything like this was the final Butterfly Labs debacle. They ultimately did keep  their PCIe form factor, but it never went into a PC with PCI slots. The power and colling just rendered that idea absurd. I haven't seen anything to suggest that this would be any more practical, unless they decided to make a lower speed, lower power minor (say 100-150 watts). That still wouldn't be a particularly cost effective product, since a purpose built mining "box" doesn't have all the constraints of a PCIe card, nor it is chained to a to a larger PC with it's attendant costs and power consumption. All the current mining boxes pair up a low-power single board computer (e.g. Raspberry Pi) with purpose built hashing boards. All the power and colling is for the hashing boards, with no real concern for the "computer" part of it.

As far as i know Bitmain is a intelligent business organization , 2 things to watch:-

1. They will not admit some efficient machine are coming, and everybody will consider it a rumor.
2. As soon as Japanese or Russian release a efficient miner, within few weeks they will release a better version with 50% lesser price.

Now, lets watch with patience as the time unfold events.

If I can't buy it with cash or BTC it's a scam.  ON top of that most are scams anyways...

I remember some rumors about an Intel-designed SHA256 chip - but it was a few years back during the FIRST surge as I recall and it got canned due to the collapse, as I recall those rumours.

If Intel DID decide to build one or more mining chips, they likely would build them internally and put them into some sort of "server" design for sale - though I COULD see the possibility of them design and make the chips then offer them for sale to miner makers.

Still wouldn't be a case of them selling capacity, as such.

NVidia has never had their own fabs.

AMD sold off their fabs a while ago - those fabs (along with the ex-IBM fabs) are now part of Global Foundries.

At this point, for cryptocoin mining purposes, the only chip makers that really matter are GF, TSMC, and possibly Samsung, as Intel doesn't tend to sell out fab capacity to anyone less than an Apple (and that's more that Apple is using Intel CPUs and chipsets that they get at a bulk discount than that Apple is actually using Intel fab capacity).

Lookslike Japanese are ready to perform inhalation of Chineese Dragon Bitmain

Japanese internet giant GMO has announced a plan to sell its “next-generation mining boards,” equipped with 7nm ASIC chips through an initial coin offering (ICO) next year.

In addition to operating a mining center in Northern Europe, the company will also launch a cloud mining business as well as sell its mining boards equipped with the 7nm mining chips. “Each card will be able to mine at a projected 8 terahashes per second or more with a power consumption of only 300 watts,” Kumagai detailed.

“It will be possible to reduce power consumption compared to the existing mining machines with the same performance, and achieve a computational performance of 10TH/s per chip,” GMO detailed on Wednesday, adding that:

Yeah Japan  home of MT Gox  the worst  btc scandal ever.

Good luck with this.

Intel
Samsung

are basically gods of chip size

toss in  AMD and Nvidia

of those 4 none mind you none have a working high power 7nm chip

So if you think  this company has it coming fast buy some tokens when they come out.

They are not a big player at all. They are a complete unknown in the crypto industry and so far everything they have came out and said sounds like complete unsubstantiated bullshit to anyone with half a clue about how our industry works.

There is no viable commercial production of the 7nm form factor yet, and won't be for quite awhile because they are still working out the process and tooling. Probably late 2018 for any limited commercial level production. Even 10nm is only being produced by a couple of companies (Samsung & TSMC with Intel still working on a higher volume process) and only going to high end devices and applications currently.

For anyone who understands the semiconductor industry, the claims GMO is making are beyond ridiculous. Pure propaganda, plain and simple.

The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed. That's marketing 101. You all should know that.

I think you need to research on who this company is, its not a small player.

Sure, because using a scammy ICO process adds enormous credibility to a company with no track record of delivering who is making highly questionable claims to begin with.

Generally speaking power efficiency improves by 15-20% per process generation.  Do you really believe these guys will get a 300% improvement from 2 process nodes versus a company that has done 5 generations of design optimizations already?

I would love to see competition in the hashing market.  If it comes it will be from an ARM or NViidia, or AMD, or Intel.  Not some unknown player who immediately starts pumping their story and heading to the scammiest possible way of raising money.

I think you need to research on who this company is, its not a small player.

I know who they are and they have no experience in the field.

So far they seem to be pumping their stock price via press release.

You need to tune your nose for scams if you are going to survive in this world.
