same problem except we get 20% sting bitmain say theu have to declare full value which makes purchase usless.

That's called the law?

laws not a problem when youdont  know what your going to be charged for thata the problem.

they declared low values on the s1 and didnt care then of the law.

No surprise when there is a bunch of idiots spewing off about customs charges on a public forum ffs. You think that the various customs agencies across the world are too f'in stupid to do a google search? Sheesh, its like the Darwin awards in here.

The only people you have to thank is yourselves for spewing out about it across the public internet.  Roll Eyes

stop being a troll, you are the only idiot here, I am not complaining about having to pay taxes, im complaining because I ENDED UP OVERPAYING taxes, and if I didnt my packages would sit in customs for weeks while they look and laugh at bitcoin transaction proof

For what it's worth, I get what you're saying. To clarify for those who don't:

He pays 15% tax. Let's just use 10% for ease of calculation.

He buys an item for $369. Tax should be $36.90
Instead, the value is declared as $500. He pays $50 (or almost twice what he should have based on the real value)

This is where the problem is; not on the taxes themselves, but in the value declaration.

yes except 500USD needs to be converted is a little under 600NZD

on top of this I get brokerage charges etc

my tax ended up being 156nzd (120USD on a 370usd package)

i got over double charged

There are international import codes, I live in a foreign country where customs is notoriously corrupt. When I import things I know theuy will want to add loads of "duties" to I make sure to put the commodity code for that item, and 99 times out of 100 if it's tax exempt and it has the correct commodity code they won't charge me.

I.e if I import $500 office supplies with no commodity code - $200 tax and fees.

Do the same thing with correct commodity code - no fee.

Even put commodity code for tax exempt item on non tax exempt item and customs man can't be bothered to look in box - no tax Smiley

Yes custom officers are really connected now. I think 500 dollars is a typo. I mean you said nzd that is new zealand right? I think you should be able to appeal. I mean i live in a 3rd world where officials tend to make things hard for rather than go easy on you byt when faced with factual evidence they got guilty conscience and fix things for you. I figure nzd officials should have better conscience and you should be able to appeal ?

AU and NZ have some pretty silly importation rules. AU made me pay 500$ in taxes for a 2000$ item that wasn't even taxable. They don't produce anything internally so they screw all their citizens by making them pay huge taxes and duties for importation under strict rules. If you don't like it, I'd suggest moving. You would've ended up paying at least 90$ in tax no matter what.

In the words of Roger Ver

the thing is i can show customs what I paid,

but for them a transaction ID and a bitcoin transaction is not normal and they will likely say "wtf is this shit" and keep my package for weeks

If they misdeclared it I expect you can write to customs and show what you actually paid.

Bear in mind though customs usually use the value inc shipping cost.

If customs won't refund you then bitmaintech should since it's their screwup

ok heres the deal

paid like .82 bitcoins for 2 antminers via bitmain website (was aprox 369usd at the time)

In my country we have to pay 15% import tax

anyway bitmaintech ended up declaring the value at 500 dollers and then there was shipping costs also

botom line is I got stung 156NZD (aprox 120usd) on my purchase of 369usd

I have emailed bitmaintech but all they say is they are sorry for the inconvenience.

would really like to buy more from them but god damn i cant rely on their crazy ass declared values

any help would be appreciated
