An obviously centralized cryptocurrency(?) being added into BitPay, IMO, is not going to post well in terms of statistics. Besides, who else here is holding XRP nowadays? Only big names do that currently, not the common folk who are into ETH and BTC only.

But Ripple, seriously? That makes me wonder if they'll be actively liquidating on exchanges.

A win for Ripple Labs at the end of the day. Doesn't matter who sells what on which exchange as long as they (Ripple Labs) get rid of the premined coins they created to sell.

--

As for Ver's involvement in BitPay, I think he's okay with all these developments happening in the service, for as long as his BCH stays on that platform, all is good in the hood.

And it must be somehow embarassing for Ripple Labs that it's not possible for them to compete with BTC regarding adoption especially because BTC has no company behind it pushing it with rewards for services adding it or other paid incentives by a centralized actor like Ripple Labs.

Well, if I were running Ripple and someone bemoaned out loud our failure to compete with Bitcoin I'd fire them for clearly not understanding what our product was. There's no comparison whatsoever and to this day I still don't understand how it sneaked into the crypto market at all.

Maybe one reason that bitpay added Ripple is for faster transactions and for fewer transaction fees.

That's definitely not it. If it was, they would have been fine sticking to BCash, because the fees are lower than the fees of XRP.

I'm pretty certain that BitPay adding Ethereum and XRP is just the result of them being done with Roger's censorship. It's a business at the end of the day, and due to them not adding any other crypto currency, they have missed out on a lot of income.

This is very bed news for Roger Ver's BCash, because he no longer can use its merchant adoption as a selling feature over other coins. It will be even worse when his second most hated coin makes it to BitPay, which is Litecoin. Great for crypto in general.

I do however wonder if he can make BitPay charge an additional fee for using Ethereum or XRP as payment option.  Cheesy
Does Bitpay have enough power for that though? I'm not entirely sure, but isn't Roger meant to be able to control everything they do, which means picking which coins get removed or added to the site.

It's a good move on their part if it is so, even if the other markets aren't as big, they've missed out on a lot of income from listening to Roger.
Can he possibly alter or do able to make changes on Bitpay?
I'm quite sure that he can't make changes directly, but due to his and Bitmain's stake in the company, they can use that to put the other coins in a disadvantageous position, for example by charging an additional fee when you use BTC/XRP/ETH. They already do that with Bitcoin, so with Ethereum's fees having gone up a lot, it might be a victim too where they use that as an excuse.

Business is business though and its just normal for them to have this step than rather seeing those dollar profits fly away and lastly im aint bias with Bitcoin. Cheesy
I'm all open to a free market, which is why I don't understand why some Reddit Bitcoin bulls are trashing BitPay for accepting other coins. Discarding the anti bias of mine towards BitPay, a company should do whatever it takes to up its revenue and profit streams. I can't wait for BitPay to report the actual stats as to what coin has been used more than the other. I'm sure ETH and XRP will surpass BCash in volume.
This does make a lot of sense actually - it sucks how companies like his are able to just leverage their stakes in other companies and end up making decisions for them.

I'd be interested to know if anyone actually used Ripple to pay for anything.
I wonder if Ripple paid them to do this.
Since Ripple Labs is constantly dumping their bag of premined XRP shitcoins it's quite possible that there was some sort of "reward" included to get XRP added to Bitpay. The free cash for Ripple Labs by selling their premined coins is their most used manipulation strategy to push XRP.

And it must be somehow embarassing for Ripple Labs that it's not possible for them to compete with BTC regarding adoption especially because BTC has no company behind it pushing it with rewards for services adding it or other paid incentives by a centralized actor like Ripple Labs.

It's worth something so why wouldn't you if you could?

I guess there must be no shortage of people with a bit of it lying around who might be inspired to get rid. Same goes for plenty of other coins though. I guess if they included Litecoin they might have to face up to, gulp, SEGWIT.

I wonder if Ripple paid them to do this.

What makes you think that? They haven't dropped Bitcoin Cash yet. Tongue

I find this move a bit surprising. I remember hearing that Bitpay sells all their bitcoin OTC -- nothing touches exchanges except for funds needed for day-to-day hedging. When they announced support for Ethereum, I took that as an encouraging sign for Ethereum's OTC markets.

But Ripple, seriously? That makes me wonder if they'll be actively liquidating on exchanges.

Haha, I agree. I reckon if it would be used, it'll only be used for lower amounts and I doubt a lot of people would use it, anyone, because Bitpay has a lot of other cheaper payment options.

Problem is though, Bitpay is owned by the one and Roger Ver who will probably do whatever he wants with the site, and it looks like XRP has gotten in his good books.

Just don't use the service, I've always found Coinpayments better anyway.

I have to confess, am a Bitpay user myself, but only because it's the only option where I live to pay for food delivery. Which is something I try to do every week (used to only be every fortnight).

Thankfully most other merchants I use accept some other form of payment processor. Still not ideal in any case but I'd prefer mistertango or coinpayments over Bitpay any day.

Wonder how they are going to make Ripple attractive. Bcash as it is even with cheap fees never made me blink.

Can he possibly alter or do able to make changes on Bitpay? - Im not familiar with Ver's connection with Bitpay though but i agree on points above
that it isnt really that bad to have more options rather than sticking on a BCASHit thing. Business is business though and its just normal for them

Actually Bitcoin is already enough but this platform do add up BCH and XRP? No need for more shitty centralized coins.

I just laugh out to this line;

"The news of the partnership had the members of the XRPArmy beaming in joy. They claim that XRP support on BitPay was long overdue to Bitcoin’s slow transaction speed."

They do really love BTC.

The claim was true tho, Ripple transaction is quite faster than bitcoin as far as I know and for the transaction I did.

I know you really loved BTC but don't be biased on other coins, Specially on top altcoins like BCH and XRP that you mentioned. Just be happy that Bitpay added Ripple so we can have more options on choosing our payment method.

Did not expect much from BitPay. It was heavily invested by Roger Ver and it's there to promote shitcoin. Example: BCH and now XRP.

I had to use it few times (I hated it) but every time I was going with Bitcoin.

See the following:

BitPay, a leading cryptocurrency payments platform with presence all over the world says that its merchants will soon start to receive Ripple’s XRP as payment for goods and services. The support of XRP brings the total number of cryptocurrency support by BitPay to four. Bitcoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash are already used by customers to pay at thousands of merchant shops across the world.
