Update.

24 hours after I wrote to them, no response, and I'm not able to withdraw. Sad

did you send them a support ticket or an email? Also, it's saturday, so maybe they didn't get to it by the time friday finished.

I wrote them and they fixed it pretty quick.

When I received this mail, I was unable to withdraw bitcoins!

They blocked me without any notifications! Angry

Now I wrote a letter to them, no response yet.

It's a preemptive block. They block you, and then check if everything is OK. Better to be blocked for a day or two, than having your funds stolen, right?

At my company (card payment processor) we do the same thing when we find a skimming device on one of our banks ATMs. We temporarily block all the cards that were used on that ATM since the last time the machine was serviced (cash loaded, etc...). THEN we begin investigating and checking witch cards might me at risk and should be blocked permanently. The owners are notified on the same, or the next day (if we do this in the evening/night)... Better safe than sorry, right?

It's before 9 AM in Slovenia where Bitstamp is located. Staff probably hasn't come in for work yet and they'll most likely have a number of these requests to process.

FUD FUD FUD. My withdrawals still work fine and have worked fine all of yesterday. This measure only affects part of the Bitstamp-users, namely the ones that have received the aforementioned email. Bitstamp is just tightening up their security, which is commendable, however they could've communicated it a bit better rather than fueling the FUDsters this way.

THIS. I did a withdrawal of 2 Bitcoin after reading that - went through in 10 minutes.

Can we ban op and idiots who to along with fud this serious? Would be good to send a message on morals.

Yeah, people don't seem to realize that they can still do withdrawals.  They are just upgrading their security, and asking all of the users to as well.  It is a smart move, because it will limit the ability of hackers to attack their system, or hack into individual accounts.
