p2pool.. supports merged.. im doing it now.. read the faq y0!
Read again. It supports "merged" in the same way as solo-mining. Only one p2pool user gets the entire 50NMC block reward and it isn't split.

And if you want to talk about pool size, I dunno why you aren't discussing Derpbit. Much larger.

ahem.. read again.. if your into litecoin you can do p2pool for that oddball coin.

ya... true.. i do like slushs pool.  simple and straight to the point.

lets all make up and be friends!

Second payment out to slush, 3.60 BTC

TXID fe5e245e30867dbd75588b80716b8e6ffcf27d171a4e6add6c9977b536c36b8e

quit feeding that morbidly obese pool.. you should donate that to p2pool to help support and promote its decentralized nature!
Wait, what? Morbidly obese? Yeah, fuck you too. It's not enough to get 3k coins stolen, but then you have the nerve to attack one of the most stable and innovative pools available. Tell me: does p2pool support proper merged mining with distributed payouts yet? No? Is it easy to set up compared to a regular pool?

Get a clue before you shoot off your idiotisms.

yes morbidly obese.

3k stolen.. that pool can afford it.  its part part of the business.. security was lax.. someone wasnt on their A game.. bite the bullet and move on.

p2pool.. supports merged.. im doing it now.. read the faq y0!

its very easy to setup.. unless your a moose.

SLUSH is a dinosaur, P2Pool all the way.

+1

You stupid motherfuckers.
Im all for P2pool but the way you guys advertise/plug it is DEPLORABLE.

This thread has nothing to do with slush's pool. It has to do with us helping someone in the community who's helped us all mine thousands upon thousands of Bitcoins and got dealt a bad hand.

So, Fuck off.

I am one of the loudest P2Pool supporters, and I agree, this has nothing to do with Slush's pool. And it's certainly nice to see someone who doesn't disappear when the shit hits the fan (even if I think the fan could have been in a location with a lower possibility of flying shit). Props to Slush and Zhou.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to promote P2Pool over traditional pools. And this situation is certainly one of them. There is no "hot wallet" to be stolen from P2Pool. But, Slush isn't disappearing, he is doing the right thing, and protecting his miners by paying out the stolen funds from his own pocket, which he should. Regardless of what you think of traditional pools, Slush is doing the right thing.

Also, I hope, rg and anyone else, that you aren't letting a few guys with no tact sour your opinion of P2Pool or the miners there. I respect all the pool ops, even if I do go out of my way to convince others that traditional pools aren't always the best choice when it comes to mining.  Wink Pool ops provided a valuable service allowing small miners to get a slice of the pie in the face of increasing difficulty. Without them, the network would be nowhere close to the size it is now! That said, I hope every pool can be a "smart pool" similar to P2Pool some day.  Cheesy

Nah it didnt. I asked nanotube if these guys were even involved with p2pool and he informed me they're nobodies.
So no big deal, just typical forum lamers Smiley

I donate blood every 8 weeks, and I go see movies about once every couple months. I earn 'points' that I can redeem for free movie tickets by giving blood. This makes going to the movies cheaper. If I didn't earn points, I would still donate blood, and I would still go to the movies.

What BitVPS is doing is similar. They are offering a discount for people who want a VPS, and also want to donate to slush. Without this, they would probably still be getting a VPS, it's hardly an impulse purchase market afaik.

More along the lines of you making money off that misery and tossing slush a piece of it, I fail to see where you are offering to help anyone without first getting yours. So it is a toss up in the deplorable advertising department here.

That's a really cynical and uninformed opinion.  BitVPS is small company providing excellent service at a minimal cost.  With these donation-driven sign-ups, I imagine that RG's probably just about at-cost on the services provided.  He's trying to a good thing using the vehicle he's already got in place, and it's not very fair of you to insinuate that this is a money-making scheme.  Also, he provided a direct Bitcoin address for people to donate without purchasing BitVPS service.  Don't be such a troll.

If he had wanted to help slush without making money off of it then he could simply have posted a donation address.

BitVPS is an excellent VPS provider, but treating them as a secure alternative to linode without really thinking about the security considerations involved would be a bad idea.

Personaly I dont treat them as "a secure alternative to linode" , clearly no more than any other provider or even datacenter.

Shit happen, to everyone, but having skillfull and fast reaction + good IRC support . . . is still interesting, the Web of trust too Wink

This is a great idea. Slush has been one of my favorite pools for so long and knowing the problems the man has gone through by just keeping a pool with this many users and the things that happen when your trafficking volume like his is a sheer testament to the drive that is bitcoin and success.

Ugh now I have to respond to this:

Last Saturday, around 11am, the WHMCS was compromised, I was logged in at the time and noticed it immediately ( the login pops up on the main page). I disabled Apache, downloaded the newest version from LicensePal and upgraded it, it corrupted a bit, so i installed a backup I had of it from a day prior. Nothing was taken, nothing happened. There are access restrictions on the account that runs WHMCS, it cant execute commands, each webapp runs seperately in its own user.

In regards to inspecting users hard drives, this is only true in some instances; Like extended CPU usage beyond system limits (we allow a certian period of 100% utilization dependent on the plan you ordered). This can be a misconfiguration or a misbehaving program. Ask anyone who this has happened to.. I never snooped through anything. I tried to help them fix it.

That was it.. very eventful phantomcircuit, the man who hangs around in support channels to dig up dirt on competitors.

People should be completele aware of what they are dealing with.

BitVPS's WHMCS installation was hacked recently and user data likely compromised.

It is well known that their administrators regularly inspect users hard drives.

Doesn't further acceptance of Bitcoin help us all, though? But yes, I understand that your business is contingent upon competitors not accepting Bitcoin as payment.

However, it does stand to reason, if this issue happened, who knows whats coming down the line.

How many of us use Linode? I do and I asked if they would accept Bitcoin as payment in the IRC channel and I got laughed at. If there are enough of us, we should sign a petition to Linode telling them they we will take our business elsewhere(bitVPS?) if they don't start accepting Bitcoin as payment.

Maybe the owner of bitVPS can get something like this going.

If Bitcoin is so worthless to them that they laugh at it maybe they can just refund Slush and the Faucet of the worthless money they got stolen because one of their support guys clearly can't keep his passwords safe.

Hi,

Today, Linode was compromised and a lot of users lost a LOT of Bitcoins. One user in particular, was slush. Slush owns/maintains one of the longest running pools and has been an asset to the community since day 1.

Due to the unsettling news of loss that slush has endured; BitVPS will be donating 40% of new user fees directly to slush to help him recoup losses.

Any ex-customers of Linode are more than welcome. Please use coupon code 'SLUSH' during sign up to get 15% off *any* package and 40% of your fee will be donated right to slush.

[slush(~marekp@unaffiliated/slush)] I cannot express how I appreciate this kind of support

Let's show slush how appreciative we can really be.

If you dont want a VPS, donations can be sent directly to us at 1BTL7H2nfBMaKmShK4exL74CaLGvXJjAzZ
I will post a donation address for slush as soon as he works out whats safe/what isn't.
