First of all, you must understand what the problem is and what part of Google is working with issues. Also, you should try to use general and custom settings. Also, use the antivirus to check your system for Malware. It can be good to read this post for more info https://rocketfiles.com/articles/why-is-chrome-so-slow. It can be useful to you.

It wasn't slow? It was loading a block screen fast as far as I can remember.

And ahh, this is why I switched to firefox 6 months ago...

Update, I just got a black screen on the Chrome Beta as well. It's much rare than on the normal chrome.
Exactly on this thread right now. Came to post that for the last two days didn't experienced it but... The Murphy's laws in action...
What I'm gonna do is to upgrade all again to the last version and see if there are any changes.

I m using Android 9 and have not seen the black screen anywhere when using Chrome.
I also use Android 9 phone, but I had this issue with black screen. But in recent days I get black screen not that often as in first days when this issue was reported. Probably it's just an issue with current version of Chrome, because as @iasenko said he haven't got black screen on Chrome Beta. Let's hope that in next version of Chrome this problem will be solved.

It has to be something else besides the Chrome version. Maybe Android version + Chrome. It seems that most of the users who reported the problems are using Android 8.0 - 8.1. I m using Android 9 and have not seen the black screen anywhere when using Chrome.

Does cleaning browser's data works? I'm using an outdated Google Chrome App and seems like nothing is wrong with this one. Try to clear it's data and cache if it's working. I guess its because of the capacity or ram that the phone can only handle.

Edit: I updated my chrome I also fell this problem and try to clear it's data and cache.

No, didn't help. Yesterday I installed chrome beta . Up till now didn't experienced any problems. I guess this black screen issue will be resolved with the next update.
Yes, didn't resolved the problem. It's better to use another browser  and wait until the next update is released.  Another version of chrome is better to be use at this moment like Chrome Beta. You can also uninstall the update of your Google Chrome on it's Application settings.  I'm using Chrome beta now thanks.

I'm on android 8.1 and chrome 72.0.3626.105. I think it's an issue with the browser but it only happens on this forum? Does anyone know of a way to solve this as refreshing the page doesn't work.

Also using Android 8.1 phone and notice I expressed the same issue after updating my chrome to the latest version. In my case I get a black screen when I try to open new thread but after few minutes or if I load another site on a new tab, the tab Bitcointalk was opened on display correctly.

I uploaded the issue on my WhatsApp status due to the fact, I got some tech friends on my contact and got a suggestion that I should delete my lastest updated chrome version and use the previous version that the fault could be from the new chrome version. I did just that and now it's working just fine.

Conclusion, the fault is from the new chrome version, use the outdated one for the main time.

The Stone the masons rejected was the cornerstone.
Have had the same problem with only certain topics on the forum. And yes only on the forum.

I finally figured out that all I have to do is scroll up or down and then all goes well.

This is the one of the topics that I get a black screen on my cell phone only.

 https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalkorg-collectible-coin-5111005

But by chance I scrolled up or down and it cleared up. Wink

Today I changed the following Settings in the
chrome://flags >

1.Override software rendering list >
From Disabled To Enabled.

2.Accelerated 2D canvas
From Enabled to Disable

3. Hardware Accelerated Video Decode
From Enable to Disable.

4. GPU rasterization
From Default To Disabled

5.Bloated Render detection
From Default To Disable

Let see how it will act with those settings now.

I'll turn off one every day and report here.

Note: After applying this settings the bitcointalk is opening a bit faster than before.

Edit:
Got a black screen(BS for short) again with all those disabled settings above. It's not as often as before but still got one.
Last time with the same settings I didn't got any BS for almost two days.

In addition I got a BS while posting this message.

Some observations :
- I left the phone to locks itself with BS on, and when I unlocked it, BS was gone.
- No matter how long you wait the BS does not go away until you scroll down.
- If you refresh a page on which the BS appear, it will appear again.
- BS can appear on any Bitcointalk page, Profile, Personal messages, search engine, on pages without signatures/forum ads.
- I haven't experienced BS on other web sides, only on bitcointalk.

I have turned off many settings at once, the problem disappeared. Now I reset all the settings back to default and the black screen returned

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Have you tried re-installing chrome? maybe it's because of the recent update of the app? ( I can't try it on my own for I don't have any enough data remaining on my load to continue on downloading a new app) Maybe re-installing it without updating the app may solve this issue (Just keep on using old version of Chrome App)? I can't reproduce this on any of my devices, so I can't effectively investigate it. But I suspect that it's a recently-introduced bug in Chrome's hardware-accelerated rendering. Disabling hardware acceleration might fix it; maybe chrome://flags/#disable-accelerated-2d-canvas ?

If anyone can figure out exactly what causes it or whether I can change anything on my end to fix it, let me know.

Have you already solve this problem? It's kinda irritating you know, even if it doesn't show pure black, it loads very slow, some posts ended up being cut in the half just like sa cropped image. This happened after I updated my chrome in my phone.

I already cleared the cache, set the settings to default but still nothing happens. Does anyone of tried to re-install chrome browser?

Also present in my android device.
But it will disappear after swipe/scroll.. not a big deal though.

Well, it really is a big deal for it is quite a hassle, instead of waiting it to appear it just go blank, so dark that I feel even chrome doesn't likes me Sad

If you scroll down it works ok but.. sometimes you need to wait to scroll down.
-snip-
What the.... you have 37 tabs in the background (38 total)!
Hitting Back or Home button wont totally close the browser's pages, I'm surprised that you're not lagging at that point. (At least swipe the 37 unused pages.... ugh my OCD)

By the way, if you scroll up a lot, the page will refresh and you'll have to wait for it to reload [🔃] to scroll down again.

It sounds crazy but I usually use most of them, instead having bookmarks,I just open the tab I need.
Like I have a ready search for shitposters which I need only to refresh to start reporting, have the brainwallet ready to verify messages, have some important thread I refer to often, as the rules, search tips etc, have some other not crypto related tabs as well. Very easy for a quick action. So I guess it's not the best option but it's working fine for me Wink

No big deal at all, but can be annoying. I played with the settings a little and no black screen til now. I could't find the delegated-renderer in my chrome flag list so I changed some setting I thought might be related to the issue. After a half day without the issue I set back to default settings. The advice by iasenko was also suggested by a Community Specialist on Google Chrome Help Forum. A user was experiencing the black screen on his tablet and this was the advice that was posted:
Quote
I appreciate the information you've shared. Do you face the same issue on the Stable version of Chrome? If yes, please uncheck Use hardware acceleration (Menu> Settings> Show Advanced Settings > System menu) to see if that helps. Having done that, if the issue still persists, please check if adding a new user to Chrome makes a difference.

If the issue still persists, please let me know if you face it on another device as well.

I've disabled the Hardware acceleration in Chrome, as suggested by Theymos and I'll test it a bit today to see if there is any difference.

If someone else what to try, here some useful links for chrome >

Paste this in your mobile chrome to see what is hardware accelerated >
Code:
chrome://gpu/
a link to it > chrome://gpu/
To tweak the settings go to >
Code:
chrome://flags/
a link to it > chrome://flags/

Edit, the insert hyperlink function is adding automatically "http://" to the settings and the links are not working, just copy-paste them.

Right now I got the black screen on the "show new replies to your posts" list, which contains no ads.

I think the problem are the forum ads:  https://imgur.com/gallery/GzKBVUj
The Cryptex one for example and cryptoTV have black backgrounds, we have to check it, because it happens quite random same as the forum ads

You're right it's the cryptex forum ad.

Are ads in their own div with separate ids to other ones on the page? I'm guessing its something to do with how mobile apps work.

This used to be more prevalent in the windows xp / 98 days and with internet explorer.
Basically, it's a graphics / low ram issue.
1. Just disable hardware acceleration from the settings and you'll be fine.
2. Get better hardware.
i dont think so its really the cause of low ram .. because its a glitch in selected apps.. when a new android app updates comes out it dose not customized for every model of android devices.. thats why this error is hapening .

It's a glitch in the html parsing rather than an issue with the actual operating system.
The scroll approach works.
I don't think updating from a 4x2.3GHz+4x1.3GHz processor is going to do much. The ram is only 6gb but I have desktops with less than that.

I've had this happen a couple times the last few days.

Best thing to try is wait a second once the black screen comes up then try scrolling down. Once I did that the page displayed properly. Prior to that I shut it down and restarted, closed all apps, went from wifi to network and back.

Who knows may have just been lucky with the scrolling things but I haven't had a black screen to try again.

Many people suffer this problem on android devices.. here is the first simple soloution that you should try for every app if it stucks or having trouble while opening .. go to "setting" and then "apps" there search for that app and click on that then click "force stop" .. it is the simple soloution for every app .. you should try on chrome also .. however if it dosenot help you should try this:
Go to chrome:// flags and scroll to Delegated Renderer (AKA Übercompositor) then switch it from default to enabled.

Not sure why you guys are having that issue. So far it works fine on my Nokia with Android 9 and Chrome browser.

Two more things that you can try.
Some guy had an issue with his android browser displaying only a black background. Turns out he turned on night mode in his internet settings.

Did you turn on night mode in Samsung Internet? Go to setting and select turn on/off night mode.
Maybe you accidentally did that as well?

I've got something different, but still interesting, when I use Opera.
The forum is OK, unless I start to create a post. When I start to post, the background of the input field (text box) becomes blue, different shades, and if I wait for a bit, it becomes grey, several shades also, but different line by line...
It's not so disturbing, unless the text box starts to flicker, which happens when the cursor blinks.... interesting Smiley

Same here. The option doesn't exist. So this seems to be a newer issue with similar behavior, not the same one.
I'm on Pixel XL with Android 9. I'm using the latest Chrome Beta 73.0.3683.27.
Scrolling the black page fixes it temporarily.

Anyway, I don't think this belongs to Meta. This is not an issue with the forum as this happens to me on other pages too. This seems to be related with Chrome/Android.

May I know what android phones are you using? I notice that jackg is running in android 8.0 which is the same as my Galaxy S9 as it is still running under Android Oreo but I don't experience any black screen on either the Samsung Internet app or the one in Google Chrome, both apps are also up to date as I turned on my auto update in the Google Playstore. What I notice though is before when I have a Galaxy S5 is sometimes pages from websites including the forum goes into a black screen.

https://bit.ly/387FXHi lightning theory
Interesting, I've experience it yesterday for the first time now on my Android mobile phone.
I though that too many apps were open at the same time and I have not enough free memory, but looks like it's not the case.
Thanks for bringing this up.

I'll try what pmalek suggested however it could be too much resource usage as I've been keeping my lightning channel online as a test so that's definitely going to be using quite a bit.

Android tablet browser, equipped with features you can find the desktop version.

The option is called "Unknown Source" on the Android OS, you should also be able to see something written below it, such as "Allow installation of applications from sources other than the Play Store."

That's how the Android OS version in you creates a device, the location of options can be in various places. maybe under Security. To activate it, you only need to turn it on.

If you don't want to look for it, you can install the APK, and the OS will automatically tell you where to go to activate the option.
You can visit this: to refresh it:

Here is a post describing such a problem, it's quite old but might do the trick. Check it out and let us know.

Here's a fix for those of you dealing with the annoying chrome "black screen". This issue crops up for some when chrome doesn't properly refresh open tabs or when chrome sits in the background for some period of time. For me, I'd get a black screen in as little as two or three minutes of inactivity. The problem started when chrome updated itself a few months ago.

Anyway, here's the fix:

Go to chrome:// flags and scroll to Delegated Renderer (AKA bercompositor) then switch it from default to enabled

https://bit.ly/387FXHi lightning theory
I'm on android 8.1 and chrome 72.0.3626.105. I think it's an issue with the browser but it only happens on this forum? Does anyone know of a way to solve this as refreshing the page doesn't work.
