$0.40 per Merit and Minimum purchase is 100 Merit.
The maximum merit each account can send to another account is 50 merit per month. If someone is buying 100 merit, they are going to receive merit from at least two accounts (or it would get sent to at least two accounts), and it should be fairly obvious what is happening.

I think it is safe to say this is a scam.
I guess the merits they were referring to were of a sinister kind, more of an ICO rather than what could be used on this forum, I guess it was meant to be a prank on the guy looking for merits. I just wish  there is a way to get these merit sales stopped
Lol. Still a scam. Clever though.

To be fair it does sound like they are implying that buying these tokens will mean buying merit.

Maybe theymos will allow merit and sMerit to be held in an etherum address via an ERC20 contract. Cheesy

Someone contacted me in PM on TG
Care to identify who that member was with some screenshots or something?  It would help the community catch these reprobates in action.  Otherwise making a thread that doesn't lead to any consequences does very little good.

I've tried that but can't get to attach photos. I've the screenshot of him contacting me. Any other way I can do it?

You are missing the joke here  Grin, this site https://www.meritscores.io/ is an ICO page, their token is called merit and you can only purchase Minimum of 100 Merit @ $0.40 per Merit, so he trying to say that he tricked the person by giving him the ICO address which left the person with disappointment.

LOL exactly  Grin Grin it was just a random page with name Merit on it.

That's a new degree of trolling, OP  Cheesy These poor people are desperate for merit points to be able to join bounties and continue spamming.

Seems like having an ICO that is sharing the name of the merit points on BCT can be very beneficial.  Grin

As much as this project is almost certainly a scam, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with merit on this forum, other than sharing a name. Their website talks about using their token to "revolutionize the credit reporting and lending industry".

Someone contacted me in PM on TG asking Merit points for Eth, or Btc. I was feeling like playing around a little, so I searched on Google "Merit ICO" and the first thing I found was https://www.meritscores.io/ Than I reply back to the guy saying that it's $0.40 per Merit and Minimum purchase is 100 Merit. Useless to say he was thrilled and immediately asked for my Eth address without even thinking it twice. He would even send the money first in a sign of good faith.
But was very disappointed when I send him the website page for the purchase  Grin

Even though to TG groups are not very chatty like it was 8 months ago with all the crypto noobs and their moon rocket sticker every 2 comments, there are still new ways to have some fun  Grin
Such individual is not ready to pick up this challenge headlong in order to acquire the merit from the right source, rather choose to buy what will pose a big threat to his/her account if found to posses it illegally. As for me i will ensure i merit it from my contribution to this great forum.

You are right at your place that what if it turns out to be illegal. But my question is that was the merit system ,introduced in beginning of 2018, fair for each person in the forum. As according to me ,though it was a good decision but it was unfair. The full member was awarded 100 merit and member was awarded 10 merit in accordance with their ranks , whereas, the junior member was given zero merit. I would have appreciated the merit system more if it had done the following merit distribution:~
 Full member - 100
 Member - 50
 Junior member - (atleast) 1 to 10
This would have given junior members at leat some hope of getting higher ranks but it was not so. Also now because of the demotion, junior members have completely shattered.
