It's really funny if you think about it, people point fingers to things they do not favor but can't see their own dirt. I mean, all the people saying bitcoin mining hurts mother earth or are saying that people on this industry trying to be as environment friendly as possible when mining Bitcoin is futile and is of no significance at all aren't even any better since they too hurt the environment with the businesses they have or by the products they use. If we look at it, both parties are almost the same if not entirely. I think these influential people pointing fingers at Bitcoin mining doesn't care that much about the environment but instead has their own selfish reasons as to why they want to prevent or slow the mass adoption of crypto as much as they can.
It is obvious they do not care at all about the environment, they are just using this as a political tool against bitcoin, the people of today are very aware of the challenges we may face during the next decades due to the impact we have on the environment, but they are weaponizing that worry against bitcoin in order to discredit it, a ridiculous notion as if we were to tally how much energy the financial industry uses it should be many times higher than what bitcoin mining uses, and yet no one is asking for banks to close their doors.

people need to be educated on this matter so they know what they are fighting against. if they truly understand the technology, they won't be that hard on btc. there are still a lot of ignorant people towards btc or crypto in general, this is why they are using this ignorance to make propaganda against crypto.
i guess, it is only education how people will change their perspective towards crypto. if they will only rely on news or other blog articles, it can mislead their understanding about crypto and the true nature of it.

"This block was mined by monkeys"
Does it automatically mean that there were 1 trillion monkeys doing hashes that solved that block?
A modern version of the infinite monkey theorem. A monkey hitting random characters between 0-9 and A-F for an infinite amount of time will almost surely solve the next block. Grin

And now let's see how many bananas it will take to make sure the monkey army will hit at least one block in the next decade  Cheesy

Given that Braiins uses Stratum V2, is it not possible that an individual miner added this OP_RETURN output and it had nothing to do with the pool at all?

Well, my bad, I was on the phone, and with it that small I didn't look twice at the picture, I assumed it was the same message Foundry puts in all their blocks:
https://mempool.space/mining/pool/foundryusa  > Foundry USA Pool #dropgold
but this one was in the OP_RETURN which is weirder, but still, the template had to be allowed as much as I know.

And even if we assume it's true, that's just one block out of many. Any discussions about Bitcoin mining impact need to be backed with high quality research instead of anecdotes or random Internet articles.

If we were to go further into details, yeah this block has been mined with green energy let's suppose, meanwhile, the rest of the pools and miners wasted energy for nothing for 10 minutes  Wink In the end, it was a funny thing to do but won't change a thing, I doubt it will even change one single person's view on the whole thing

Wait, so because somebody signed a message with that text is means that it is also true?
If ViaBTC decides to sign a message that says
"This block was mined by monkeys"
Does it automatically mean that there were 1 trillion monkeys doing hashes that solved that block?

We talk about a pool, there is no way for them to know what electricity their miners use, only miners that are completely off-grid and solo mine a block can claim to know what energy was used to mine that block if you're on the grid you might be between a solar panel and a wind farm and there are times when your whole electricity might come from coal!!!

And even if we assume it's true, that's just one block out of many. Any discussions about Bitcoin mining impact need to be backed with high quality research instead of anecdotes or random Internet articles.

But to me the bottom line is that Bitcoin consumes a small fraction of total electricity generation, and electricity generation is responsible for a small fraction of carbon emissions. That makes Bitcoin mining a rather small climate change offender when compared to other industries.

I find it's unusual Braiins Pool bother add that message to coinbase transaction

Seems we taking the going green seriously and is a commendable move ,  but a comment alone isn't enough,  is  there evidence of such an activity taking place to actually also encourage other miners to embark on greener, cleaner  ways of mining which is sustainable  to our environment.

I find it's unusual Braiins Pool bother add that message to coinbase transaction, but i couldn't find additional explanation/PR talk about zero emission on their website
Maybe coinbase could have this information or perhaps engaging Braiins Pool on this development.

But if it is of any use does this count https://braiins.com/blog/green-innovation-in-bitcoin-mining-recycling-asic-heat

And probably we can lay all arguments against bitcoin mining being harmful to the environment.

Gamble responsibly
Bitcoin Mining Industry already use green and clean energy.
But there are still miners that are using unclean energy. Kazakhstan electricity is carbon emitted onces as it generates electricity through fossil fuels.

Year by year, it has become cleaner and greener.
I believe this though.

I like to be knowing more about how bitcoin miners are using clean energy to mine bitcoin, but just because it is included in a block that a block is mined with clean energy does not revealed how much hash rates are produced with clean energy.

And probably we can lay all arguments against bitcoin mining being harmful to the environment.
This is not what I also support because if there is no bitcoin, people are using electricity, big industries are using electricity and emitting carbon and global warming causing gases to the environment. But what is important is how they are producing electricity.
