You may try the instructions to clean up the Device Manager from 'orphan' devices in https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/windows-many-usb-hubs-and-besfuries-clean-up-in-your-devices-manager-300638

Hey, did you try plugging the erupters even before the drivers? It might cause a problem because windows might try to install its own drivers and makes it complicated when 2 drivers are around.

If you want to go the latest CGMiner route, download The latest CGMiner AND Zadig utility from ckolivas's site.  The link is in the CGMiner top post thread here

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.357369

Don't forget to read the ASIC Readme and Readme with CGMiner.

FYI, the ASIC readme is not applicable to Block Erupters. Per the ASIC Readme, information on Block Erupters is found in the FPGA Readme.

The ASIC readme explains how to install the WinUSB driver with Zadig.

Your right that BE's use the Icarus FPGA interface.  But I don't remember seeing the instructions on installing WinUSB in Windoze in the FPGA Readme?

Quote
WINDOWS:

On windows, the direct USB support requires the installation of a WinUSB
driver (NOT the ftdi_sio driver), and attach it to the Butterfly labs device.
The easiest way to do this is to use the zadig utility which will install the
drivers for you and then once you plug in your device you can choose the
"list all devices" from the "option" menu and you should be able to see the
device as something like: "BitFORCE SHA256 SC". Choose the install or replace
driver option and select WinUSB. You can either google for zadig or download
it from the cgminer directory in the DOWNLOADS link above.

When you first switch a device over to WinUSB with zadig and it shows that
correctly on the left of the zadig window, but it still gives permission
errors, you may need to unplug the USB miner and then plug it back in. Some
users may need to reboot at this point.

Use the Zadig utility and newest cgminer.
Or, if you are lazy use these already signed drivers: http://d-h.st/5kc

So use Zidag rather than the Silab drivers?

With CGMiner 3.2.0 and higher, yes.  If you want to use CGMiner 3.1.1 or BFGMiner then no.

I am currently using CGMiner 3.7.2 and it is working well for me as I said previously.

I use the latest CGMiner with the WinUSB drivers installed by using the Zadig utility.  It has worked great for me.

Hi,
I'm having some issues with my USB Block Erupter drivers from http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx on Windows 7.

The installer runs and says its installed fine but when I connect my Block Erupter the driver fails to install for the device. When I open Devices and Printers it shows that a device is connect but doesn't have a COM number.

I've tried installing the drivers in Safe Mode and that seemed to work to make one Block Erupter install but any additional devices fail. It also seems to prevent my computer from shutting down normally outside of Safe Mode. It just hangs on Shutting Down and I am forced to press the reset button on my PC.

Any help would be much appreciated!!
