anyone using blockchain.info as a wallet should now consider using a different wallet so they can get their private keys otherwise when the folk happens in a few months a year whatever you will lose your bitcoin if you are using this servicer.

This is not true at all.  Please refrain from spreading such ridiculous FUD.

There are, however, good reasons to avoid using a blockchain.info wallet for any significant amounts of bitcoins.  They have an established history of poor quality control on their software and have had a few concerning security weaknesses as well.

you mean blockchain.info deserves to be taken to court? no reason for any government to do so. beside that, does any one know if blockchain as name is trademarked?

I don't think the name "blockchain" is trademarked, but that's a good question. The Bitcoin community made up the word blockchain. Everyone was using it to refer to the public ledger that starts with the Genesis block, and which miners add new blocks to. It was from that name that Blockchain.info started collecting the public data on the blockchain, like new transactions, and putting it in easy to view format. When trademarking a name the name must not be a word commonly used in public, and even then the trademark holder has to defend the name if people start to use it that way. For example, that's why Xerox would prefer people say "copy it" than "xerox it", because the latter weakens their trademark.

i have been searching but there indeed doesn't seem to be a trademark regarding blockchain as name. maybe it's better to keep it as it is now.

I wonder if this isn't going to create problems for them later on where governments or organizations will try and take them to court over a Bitcoin matter...they deserve it for choosing such a silly name!

Guys, he almost certainly means blockchain.info. And yes, it's a legal business. Though this was the problem with calling your company that because people think blockchain.info is the actual bitcoin blockchain technology when its just a third party block explorer.

I agree 100% that it is confusing, but it was also a brilliant business move.  I have to admire the business smarts of this company, I would not have thought of it myself.

Blockchain was founded in August 2011 by Ben Reeves, a developer from the United Kingdom. The site began as a Blockchain explorer intended to make it easier for Bitcoin users to study transactions and analyze the bitcoin economy. Shortly after, Blockchain Wallet was launched, the first client side JavaScript bitcoin wallet providing a secure and convenient way to store and use bitcoins.

This is from their about page http://blockchain.com/about/

The problem.. or not. That name probably places them in a pretty good position for anything blockchain-related.

Anyway, AFAIK Blockchain Ltd. (the company) is located in the UK. Check out: http://blockchain.com/about/

the blockchain isnt a company of any sort. as pointed out above, it is simply a public ledger, or record of bitcoin transactions, addresses, and blocks.
