I'm sure we'll get to better BTC usability in general eventually, just not "tomorrow".

My laptop doesn't have a QR scanner.
If it has a webcam that's all you need. Where it says enter private key, click the QR symbol on the right of the entry field. It will ask permission to use the webcam and that's that.
Hey, that worked.  Thanks!

Problem solved, and all it took was about 20 hours of work, spread over a period of about a month, including about a dozen posts to various forums and support desks!

It wasn't nearly as easy as it should be.  Apparently, the "standard" client, Bitcoin-QT (a name only a developer would love), has no support for reading QR codes.  There are no wallets for the iPhone, which means no more Apple products for me.  After considerable research, I loaded the blockchain's MyWallet on my wife's Android, but couldn't get it to pair.  The QR reading functionality of MyWallet on my desktop was so well-hidden that I needed expert help to find it.

I have a degree in computer science and 40 years experience, and cashing a check for .25 BTC was a major project for me.  If we want the average housewife in Argentina to use Bitcoin for grocery shopping, we need a better solution!

Same exact problem on this end. Are you using a Galaxy Nexus, by chance?

It's a Samsung Galaxy Net II.

Before Bitcoin stands a chance of becoming a global currency, its infrastructure needs a lot of work!
That's why we are here ;-)

We need a portable wallet, probably on a smartphone, that is easy to install, easy to use, and almost impossible to steal from.
Have a look at developments like Trezor.

I can't get my Android to pair with my blockchain MyWallet.  I created the new wallet on my PC today.

I can get the PC app to create a QR code.  I can get the blockchain on the Android to read the QR code, but it immediately goes back to the screen where I must choose to Pair Device or New Account.  I choose Pair Device again, and Scan QR Code again, and it reads it again, and pops me back to the same screen again.  It doesn't give me any error message at all.

My password consists only of a long combination of upper and lower case alpha characters and digits, with no special characters.

What am I doing wrong?

Had the exact same experience yesterday. It worked fine when scanning the "QR code for the old app", even though I have the new app installed.

I just installed the app on my Nexus 7 yesterday, and while I was able to scan the QR code, it still isn't working. I just get a message "Error downloading transactions." Version 3.32

I tried clearing the cache, and would try clearing the data but I'm not sure that would be safe (would I lose the pairing?).

I have in my hand a "bitcion paper wallet."  I want to put those bitcoins in my wallet, and I want to prove that it can be done through the QR code, not by manually typing in the private key.

Apparently iPhone has nada, so I am officially boycotting all Apple products until that changes.

I went to considerable difficulty to install Blockchain's MyWallet on my PC, but it will not pair with my Android, and no one seems to be able to figure out why.

My laptop doesn't have a QR scanner.

Seriously?  Is this the best we have?

We have a lot of work to do!
