I find blockchain.info to be pretty unreliable as it's up one minute and down for the next 10 minutes. but when I check a lot of other people cane connect. so maybe its not fairing well with the amount of connections.

It doest matter they don keep your private key without blockchain you still can get your btc back .

If someone goes away from Bitcoin because blockchain.info is down, then it is his problem in understanding. Blockchain is never down... thanks to P2P. For balance checking purpose, u may check...

https://blockr.io/
https://blockexplorer.com/
https://www.biteasy.com/
https://chain.so/btc
https://helloblock.io/
http://bitcoinchain.com/block_explorer
https://bkchain.org/btc

You misunderstand, I was referring to blockchain.info's online wallet and interface.... if I want to teach/convince a relatively simple person (your mother for sake of argument) to use bitcoin, then they need a single source that is consistently reliable.

I'm digressing, but my point is simply that there still isn't a good comprehensive solution for the casual user. Hopefully, someone will make it easier for the mainstream user soon. Otherwise, bitcoin will be forever relegated to a niche community of users.

They are frequently down momentarily. Don't be alarmed. Just wait a bit and they are usually back up in 15 minutes. If you are worried about your wallet, do a backup of your keys from time to time.

No, I'm not worried about my wallet... of course I have a backup and I only keep a small amount on blockchain anyway.

My point is that the lack of reliability deters new users from adopting bitcoin. Case in point, the site is down again today.
For widespread adoption, an easy to use and reliable platform has to exist. For now, blockchain.info does not seem to be up to the task.

Blockchain.info site seems to be down.
http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/blockchain.info

Anybody know why or if they post updates on some third party site?

This is pretty annoying because I find blockchain to be a pretty convenient as a hot wallet except every once in a while it goes down for a few hours. For me, this is only a minor inconvenience because I have other wallets and I have my blockchain private keys.

However, for an "ordinary" user new to bitcoin, this sort of reliability issue creates a huge problem preventing wider adoption.
