Like I said, unless recently sold, firstbits is for sale. I can broker and escrow the deal if anyone is interested.
Concerns noted but choice is a good thing. Not that anyone should be obligated to support it.
I don't see that vanity addresses are any different than any other address though. Privacy is not always a concern and there's nothing to stop people using other addresses also.

Aren't firstbits considered bad practice in general?
I remember for the longest time a lot of people had been warning against using firstbits. Or maybe I'm confusing this with vanity addresses.
Vanity addresses are bad for privacy due to address reuse, firstbits is considered risky because of the potentials for misuse and typos and if the address is reused (as they most often are) then it is also bad for privacy.I remember for the longest time a lot of people had been warning against using firstbits. For example have the vanity address with firstbits 1BurtW but I no longer use it due to the above concerns.

firstbits.com abandoned, firstbits.net not working (even worse than being abandoned). We need an open source version of this site that can be shared.
I think the entire concept is being abandoned across the board.
Does firstbits still work on Blockchain.info? I seem to recall they removed it but it still shows up in the search box as a valid query. But whenever I try it, I always get the "Unrecognized search pattern" error.

Well now my Electrum wallet's balance is out of whack! Can't connect to any of the servers now.
I am locked out of my bitcoin! Well I have the private keys so I can access them anytime I want, Just not with electrum right now
Blockchain.info you should work with Electrum and try and come up with a way to connect RPC. Would be awesome!

I went to check a balance on blockchain.info and I used the firstbits previously given by blockchain.info for said address, and the firstbits were not found. I tried several different bitcoin addresses which were previously given "firstbits" by blockchain.info, and some "firstbits" were no longer there, and some were changed (shortened).
Any idea why?
