I think its a good move as new users will see the blockchain.com domain more legit and easier to type than the dot info one which is more easier to remember for long time users.

But to avoid any confusion hope the team keeps both domains alive to avoid giving room to phishing attempts.

It's probably a good thing to do for the brand as .info is probably not as recognized a TLD as something like .com. And since they already own the blockchain.com domain anyways, it wouldn't make sense to have two separate sites performing different things owned by the same company that people can easily get confused about. It's all coming from a branding perspective. Blockchain.info will most likely still redirect after the change, so old users shouldn't be that affected.

The domain probably cost them a ton, obviously, and it means that they want to brand and market themselves better and are investing a lot of money into that.

I haven't used them though since they got the update in their interface, but they should still appeal to new users because of their easy to use interface. I honestly would rather them fix some obvious issues with their system, such as the fact that exporting privkeys isn't an easy process. Their choice though.

We have been so used to Blockchain.info for years now, so I think it will be very strange to type in Blockchain.com when they move to the
new domain.   Grin
What so strange in it? You literally have to just type 3 letters? .info was a messed up domain for a commercial service anyway. They should have done the migrations ages back. I wish along with the migrations they solve the 100 other bugs existing in their current system.

I've never understood why anyone gets a hard on about what final few letters a domain is under. What is relevant is if somewhere as important as blockchain.info owns as many iterations of its domain as possible.
Honestly, noobs and shit-posters will make a big deal out of anything. I can't believe reading some replies here that people were actually emotionally attached to that '.info' domain and they're feeling all nostalgic how their old friend is gone. Heights of loneliness
.
The possibilities for fuckery are otherwise infinite. You see it quite often with other services too.
Yeah! I would be glad if the solved the existing bugs from the system.

AFAIK blockchain.info and blockchain.com has the same owner way back years ago or exactly 2014 and not only bought in this year or so. And if I remember correctly way back 2017 and 2016 I visited the .com domain and they have some links that redirect to .info. And I dunno why they prefer to use the .info for their wallet and to the explorer.

2017: https://web.archive.org/web/20170602095828/https://www.blockchain.com/

But still, moving the explorer, the wallet, their service/s, etc to the most common domain .com is much more a good move though.

[EDIT] and even as early as 2013

Yeah, firstly it's unclear why the hell someome buys both: .info and .com and prefers to function on .info domain, then when so serious company buys .info domain, logically they buy .com to protect their brand.
Blockchain.info was the domain I know very well, I bet some people will mistakenly type blockchain.info.com  for the first times.
Don't like that fact at all...

Good old days.

I also saw that announcement at the upper part of ".info". I still remember the days that I thought that it was the real blockchain concept when I was still quite new to bitcoin.

Regardless of their decision of moving the domain, I'm glad that they are doing something like this that shows on how they are active with their service.

Is ".info" will be used now as its purpose of information and will become a library for blockchain learning?

I'm kinda sad about it actually. I know it's just a name, but I've visited that website for years now.
Haven't used their wallet in ages, but do check it to see when a block gets confirmed if I'm waiting for a transaction to clear.

Always used the .info never the .com
When i just starting up on crypto i had used their wallet as a newbie and move out later on when i do already gained experience and knowledge when it comes to security. In all explorers to be used im really convenient to use up blockchain.info, .com domain might be awkward but we would really get used to it. I dont know why people do really bother this soo much.

. I hope it was good decision by team to stop hackers from creating pishing links.
With this new domain (.com) then it would really less chances for people to get phished.

In domain market .com has more value as compare to other domain names also its renewals fees in less.
This will great impact on Search engine where Always show .info instend it requires .com Afterall its Google everything is possible here.

Normally .info means information
.com = commercial And worldwide famous

. I hope it was good decision by team to stop hackers from creating pishing links.

I agree somehow that blockchain.info been known by most users when it comes to wallet and when it comes to explorer.
It's hard coded in my brain, which took me years to accomplish, lol. Despite all their bugs and annoyances they remained my all time favorite explorer. I however will be quick to adapt and get used to the new layout.

It proves that regardless of how much better other explorers may be, and how many more features they have, people won't ditch the first mover. In this case the AOL of the .com bubble is still relevant and very much thriving.

Would hoping the same thing on where blockchain.info team would able to fixed their bugs together with such transition into other domain. I agree somehow that blockchain.info been known by most users when it comes to wallet and when it comes to explorer.

Probably a good move. They're not a purely informational site so the domain that they used has always been pretty unconventional. IIRC I actually typed in blockchain.com a few times by accident in the past, and I was not able to access the features which is offered by blockchain.info since they are regarded as two different sites.

Now that they have consolidated domains, it's going to be a much more convenient process. People won't get the domains mixed up anymore.

However, I doubt that it's going to have that much of a profound impact other than it looks better and it's more convenient to access and won't get mixed up. The quality of the service itself is still the most important aspect.

What do you think about the move from Blockchain.info to Blockchain.com?
I think it would have made more sense if the move/switch was the other way around (since the services were at .info).

it redirects to blockchain.info.

Was blockchain.com ever owned by someone else?
Yes, read this thread: Blockchain.com

On a side note:

Once we consolidate domains, blockchain.info will be found at blockchain.com/explorer.

Oh, few years ago I remember I entered blockchain.com instead of blockchain.info and thought it was phishing website Cheesy. Only later I realised that blockchain.com is also controlled by same owners.
I think it's good move. .com domain just looks more solid for such big and popular website.
I hope they keep the domain and redirect people to .com domain when they access their service from .info domain.
I'm sure they will keep .info domain for redirection, otherwise it would suicide move because mostly people will be not aware about change of domain.

Was blockchain.com ever owned by someone else? If not then I find it odd they didn't migrate much earlier.

I find domains weirdly fascinating. I read that places like carinsurance.com are valued so highly because a significant proportion of people don't use search engines at all and type in domains directly. That's really going to get you the deal of the century.

Good overall decision as laypeople are more familiar with the ".com" domain. Probably only us on the bitcoin/cryptocurrency space are used to ".info" domains just because of blockchain.info. While I'm going to miss the ".info" domain, we just need to understand that they're doing that move for their business to prosper.

It's going to take a while for me to get used to typing blockchain.com instead of blockchain.info. But then again, they're most likely going to redirect .info traffic to their .com.

Good move.

However, I wonder if they bought that premium domain name for millions from its owner. ".info" is the cheapest available domain name and (mostly) not used by big projects.

The most expensive domains are sites like LasVegas.com for $90 000 000 and Carinsurance.com for $49.7 million, so this domain could never have been more than that.  Roll Eyes  They have been around for a long time, so I reckon they would have made enough money to afford this.

Ethereum.com was up for $10 000 000 and eth.com went for $2 000 000 and Bitcoinwallet.com went for $250 000.  Cool

The good thing is that they own both of these domains now, so there will not be confusion in the future anymore.

Well it looks like they have become successful enough to be able to purchase the .com from the original owner and I am sure the domain wasn’t cheap. Branding is important and this was a good brand marketing move. They will most likely not give up the .info. It will most likely redirect to .com with the .com becoming the official domain on any other content, PR or marketing campaigns moving forward.

I hope they make sure that they market this very well, because people might think this is a phishing attempt, with the new interface and all.

Well, to the team.. Good luck with the move.  Wink
