Firstbits are essential if one wants to verify Casascius coins... Sad

You can verify Casascius balances by searching for the firstbits here: https://www.casascius.com/fulllist.txt

and then copying and pasting the full bitcoin address into blockchain.info or another blockchain parser.

This is not working for me either .. I can no longer find myself (1WillB) as a firstbits address Sad

Could we not have support for firstbits addresses in the Bitcoin clients?

It is giving out the wrong firstbits at the moment :-/

Please know that firstbits always was a seriously bad idea for security and a really poor way of identifying if the owner of an address is who you expect it to be.

That is true

Have you heard of hash collisions?

This is not.  There is no increased risk of collision.

Blockchain.info seems to be the only site that offers to resolve firstbit addresses. So it is a big deal when they suddenly stop resolving longer firstbit addresses. These are not vanity addresses. I just need them to resolve via their API. For example, my profile address:

1CYNQBmD6kmtmSfZ3hMSQyrS6oirDA9P8H

If you search for 1CYNQB it doesn't work.

OTOH some longer firstbits do work like 1hiccupped . So anyone know what is going on? Are only vanity first bits resolving?

Did you call the bitcoin police yet? Iam sure theyll help you

All the addresses in question have already had transactions before.
