Single wallet address concept was dropped by most wallets a long time ago as it decreases privacy. Now HD wallets are being used with which a single wallet has multiple addresses. You get a new address every time you do a transaction with the current one.

Also make sure that you selected Bitcoin and not Bitcoin Cash, because they added Bitcoin cash a while ago and that might be a bit confusing for people who did not know about that. I think they even added Ethereum too, so you must make sure that you are selecting the correct coin.

I doubt that they implemented SegWit, but I will have a look and edit my post, if they added that.

I hope this is helpful. ^smile^

if you have nothing in your blockchain.info wallet and have never used it but you saw a different address then that is i fact strange because things like this should not happen!

what happens is that when you use an address it becomes "used" and addresses should be used once not multiple times although you can do that. so in order to prevent address reuse wallets should generate a new key pair for you each time you use one address. that means you see a new address when you used one.

note that previous addresses (keys) are still yours and you can use them to sen/receive funds.

I don't really know much about that wallet, blockchain.info. I have some idea like maybe it is an HD wallet like Mycelium which each time I use that particular address to receive then another one will pop out. You better search what it is if you don't know to learn more. Can anyone confirm this?

I don't use blockchain.info so I can't speak from experience, but it's normal for online wallets to assign multiple addresses to one user. The old address you're talking about is probably still associated with your account. For additional reference, this is from the blockchain.info FAQ:

Quote
What is an address? ×

Addresses are strings of letters and numbers, that are used to send you bitcoin or ether. For increased privacy, a new bitcoin address is generated for every transaction. Find the address for your next transaction by clicking receive in your wallet.

If you've used the old one, you were likely assigned a new one.
