I moved from Mycelium to BlockTrail.

Mycelium just seems too geeky for me, all dark and all. I wouldnt imagine a person unaware of the tech behind bitcoin would manage it well. BlockTrail's wallet is very easy to use for anyone.

Deff recommend it to anyone.

@ETFbitcoin You probably won't regret , even if they just launched they seem to be very serious on their work , yesterday I reported a bug , and like five minuts after that they fixed it Grin
If you have suggestions for their wallet then go here and post on the Format given : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/blocktrailcom-wallets-your-suggestions-1181934

What are you using , smartphone wallet because I have nothing called PIN on my side  (Web wallet) and I don't want to screw things up
Android wallet. I have created web wallet too, and there is no PIN on web wallet.

you only need a pin to send bitcoin from your mobile wallet. it's an extra security for mobile apps. btw, make sure to use authy/2FA
The problem is not that. If i forgot my pin and password, there is no reset button on the app.
Since this is a service discussion topic, i think this is the best way to give feedback of the app for developer.

We're going to add a reset button very soon, we hear ya.
Great. Very clear here.
Good job dev. Can't wait to see te improvment.

Here is what HD wallet means basically , from the BlockTrail CTO  :

Quote
The Blocktrail wallet is a HD wallet, this means that all your private keys are generated from 1 master key, which is generated in your browser/app and then encrypted with your password before sending it to be stored on the Blocktrail servers.
Additionally the Blocktrail wallet is a multi-signature 2of3 wallet, 1 is your primary master key, 1 is your backup key and the 3rd is the blocktrail server key.

Another results I found by searching little bit :

Quote

HD is short for Hierarchical Deterministic. Typically, bitcoin wallets generate each new bitcoin address from a unique random number, requiring you to make a new separate backup each time you create a new address. To avoid losses from lack of backups, such wallets tend to use a single bitcoin address for all transactions. HD wallets instead use a «master seed» to derive all future bitcoin addresses sequentially, with each new address created by appending a counter to the end of the seed. In this way, all the bitcoin addresses created by such wallets are «hierarchically determined» from a single seed, only need to be backed up once, and can be fully restored at any time in the future just from the backup of that single master seed. When using a single address wallet, all your transactions will be associated with a single address, and because all bitcoin transactions are public, anyone can see what addresses you are sending funds to and how much money you have. HD wallets greatly improve your privacy by being able to generate new addresses whenever you send and receive funds, making your transaction activity and total balance very hard to track.

Thanks for this research, i though that it was about the design HD lol, there is no like/thank button so i have to write Smiley Thanks very much.

Just download it after i saw this thread Roll Eyes
I thought it was great wallet just like mycelium, but i dissapointed after saw sign up form & other feature that could show my identity Sad

I guess i'll keep use mycelium

They also sync your contact info, i dont know why do they need my contact list to be synced?

On their Google Play page it says :

Quote
- 2-of-3 Multisig technology so you always remain in control of your coins
- HD wallet technology allowing you to create an unlimited number of addresses
- Send and Receive bitcoin easily with contacts on your phone
- Live update for new transactions and your balance
- View your full transaction history with the price at the time of the transaction
- Personalise your account so your friends can quickly identify you
- QR code scanning with bitcoin URI support
- Send requests via email and SMS
- PIN protection
- Anonymous accounts, for your privacy
- Transactions signed locally on your device
- Backup document incase the worst happens
- Local currency display using live price updates

So it's nothing that you should be afraid off , it's not like they are sending these informations to their servers or anything , in fact they don't store anything on their side as far as I know. only one of your private keys which is not enough to take control of your coins .

Alright, thanks. I like more the mobile app rather than the website wallet app. But what does HD wallet mean? sorry for the noob question

Hey ETFbitcoin thanks for giving Blocktrail a try, did you know you could sign up with a username instead of an email? This gives you greater privacy and doesn't link you to your identity Smiley

Since there is no private key I wouldn't move to blocktrail, i see that their overall platform is great.
When blockchain is down i check there the transaction if confirmed or not etc..
If you haven't seen online to sign a message then you can do through coinbase.
Blocktrail uses 2 of 3 multisig method. They control one of the key while you control two of the key. Limits can be set and it would be impossible to bypass that limit without the 2 of your keys. I don't know the technical details about signing a multisig address but it would undoubtedly be harder than standard 1 address used by coinbase.
We know how easy is just 1 address in coinbase, to sign a message there is simply.
But we should analyze the worst case what if their website goes down.
Is there any way to recover and get back our btc? Yes or No?
It is pretty standard that most exchanges or online wallet which uses a cold storage wouldn't allow the customer for their private key. Since they are backed, they can probably cover your coins if they get hacked. By giving you control over your coins in standard addresses, you will be fully responsible for your Bitcoin.

Yeah that is how this should work but that does not happen all the time.
"Bter" exchange was hacked and the bitcoin were "stolen" from "cold wallet"
About the blocktrail i just installed their mobile app, the UI is perfect Smiley

For the UI is very good, simple and easy. But i have the problem when i forget my pin.
i can't recover my pin, since there is no button to reset my pin. I think you sholud add advance setting button to reset pin and password.

You have two of the keys, therefore, access to your BTC  Wink

I know but they don't give you that aswell lol , Only adresses are generated and nothing else . there is no way to get the private keys

Currently, the way to do this is using a PHP script that's available as part of our SDK for developers: https://github.com/blocktrail/blocktrail-sdk-php/blob/master/examples/wallet_recovery_example.php

The way the wallet has been built it shouldn't require more than a few days to also release a desktop version (the hardest part will be packaging so it can be installed easily etc). That desktop version will contain an easy way to use your backup sheet to get your bitcoins out of the wallet (we'll probably code in insight and another alternative API for it).

I also assume in case of major problems with Blocktrail that there will be some developer in the community who would create a small website that can help ppl get their BTC out, so far the community has proven itself rather helpful when others are in dire straits.

Oh it dosen't sounds so hard I assume even if I don't have any programming knowledge on PHP . too bad .NET is not that much worked on and updated .. it's 10 months old otherwise I would work on it .

We invite you to work on it if you have some extra time!   Cheesy

I really like their design and setup, however, ninkip2p offers a better way to create your wallet and, more importantly, to resurrect it.

You just said it yourself, we have 2 of the keys. Therefore having the overhand and the control of your BTC.

But I don't understand how we are supposed to recover our wallets if BlockTrail goes down for any reason without the need of programming language knowledge ? since If I understood right they are asking on the PDF file to use their SDK .

Retrieve private keys on another wallet. Simple.

I'am missing something here ? How I'am supposed to do that if they don't allow exporting private keys , it's multi signature wallet Shocked

Hey, i downloaded it too.

They have just released the wallet therefore i expect some further updates in the coming weeks.

For a freshly released wallet i enjoy how they include whats most important, such as: Wallet Recovery Data Sheet and PIN.

I have the Android version, it is very fast with sending and receiving. I also enjoy how you can build a sort of profile for your account (i.e. pictures and sync contacts)

To conclude i transfered all my funds to this wallet as i prefer this one over their competition.

So I want to see how the Bitcoin community feel about BlockTrail new online wallet for those who tested it , for those he didn't .. they should test it and give us their experience with it Smiley  and here is mine :
I personally found the design pretty good however for what comes to the features it's too basic and any wallet have that . there is basically Receiving and Sending and transactions and that's it . nothing like Two factor authentification via SMS and email or something like that .
there is also no ability to Sign messages using your adresses which I really wanted to see for the first time on a online wallet , and they claim that there is full control of our control while there isn't even the ability to export the private keys or something ... so honestly I'am dissapointed little bit .

All I stated is from the web wallet so I'am not sure how the Android & iOS wallet looks like Smiley
