I think in general we are a very paranoid and not easily trusting community. So I am not surprised we have such conspiracy theories floating around. With time there will be even more. So ladies and gentlemen, brace yourselves.

This is by far one of the most stupid claims against BTC, just like calling 9/11 to be an inside job ever since it happened without any sort of proof backing the claims. Let me tell, NSA is too busy setting up for surveillance of their citizens and would never harvest on great ideas like cryptocurrencies.

Gotta love the conclusion though. I mean it sounds like the worst Sci-Fi movie ever, but it would make for a fun South Korean flick to watch while being stoned.

Not surprising. Natural News is a conspiracy theory website on the level of Infowars. They go off about chemtrails, fluoride in drinking water, vaccines, etc. It's a platform for promoting dietary supplements more than anything else.

You had me at chemtrails Grin

I wasn't aware of this site before and holy shit it's a comedy goldmine. It would be funnier if they weren't serious though.

(also, wtf is it with conspiracy theorists selling dietary supplements?)

Well, this is possible but this is a shallow conspiracy theory but it is possible that they can crack the Bitcoin transactions anytime and get all the bitcoins using their present technologies but that will definitely put stain on their name as NSA, so we can conclude that this conspiracy is a big joke and would not likely to happen, the evidence presented is kinda weak and needs more investigation and facts to support this kind of conspiracy.

They would have no advantages in doing this, so this is just a funny conspiracy theory. Let's assume this is true, and that they are able to take control of all bitcoins? What next? Bitcoin will lose it's value, and since a lot of fiat migrated to crypto marketcap, the world economy would enter in chaos (I'm assuming mass adoption already took place). The claims in the text on how they would take advantage of this situation and show up a global heroes, is to far fetched and makes no sense in my opinion. It was a funny read though. I guess we now have another death sentence for bitcoin, to join all the others.

My hope is that the world-consciousness-upgrade predicted by many will make this unlikely, even if the technology exists.

There are a lot of conspiracy theories, I think you shouldn't believe everything you hear on the internet Tongue

it's just assuming some people are trying to coup bitcoin. The NSA is a government agency to my knowledge, so it's only natural that they say things like that. Because in fact the main control of bitcoin is in the community itself.

Well, if BTC was created by the NSA then we know all the other cryptocurrencies likely weren't created by the NSA...and each represents a door with an exit sign that people can flee to if BTC starts to fall apart.

If we take care of almost all the facts of why it should be an NSA creation, we should think about why we have fiat on this earth too.

Maybe this is just a way to escape from governments, and the US wanted to be the first one to introduce themselves in here.

But who knows? it is all a conspiracy, just like the other guy said before, i dont think that this will be a chaos or just something created by the NSA, FBI, and so on.. Because there is no logic with this.

If bitcoin survives for a few years more, then it means that there is something very powerful behind this.

Due to a lot of conspiracy going on, we can't know for sure if the NSA or the CIA are the one behind bitcoin creation

In the end, it doesn't matter. Bitcoin's source code has been meticulously picked over by many thousands of competent developers. There's no backdoor or anything. If it was created by the NSA, it's out of their hands now.

Interestingly, Zcash is partially funded by grants from DARPA and the US Navy. Tongue

For us to find the group really behind bitcoin creation. We need to ask Gavin Andresen, James A. Donald, Dirk-Willem van Gulik and the rest of people on the Satoshi mail archive list right before bitcoin creation because someone among them will know the people that created bitcoin.
Who know maybe the same people on that list are the creator of bitcoin.

Due to a lot of conspiracy going on, we can't know for sure if the NSA or the CIA are the one behind bitcoin creation in other to have some sort of control over the world. The thing I'm sure of is that bitcoin is helping people and I don't care if any group or organization is behind it since they don't steal from people.
I'm good.

I don't think BTC was created by NSA. There are restrictive measures in many states in the United States, which are more cautious than the currencies of special currencies and other encrypted currencies. BTC may have been created by some technicians in order to verify the network spontaneously.

So much misinformation...

NSA mathematicians detailed “digital cash” two decades ago

The NSA were not the only one researching in this area. A lot of Bitcoin's building block have been studied in academia for decades, most of which were independent researchers or had roots in the cypherpunk movement of the early 90s. This has little to do with the NSA.

For more details, see here:

The NSA also wrote the crypto hash used by Bitcoin to secure all transactions

There's pretty much no crypto whatsoever that hasn't been touched by the NSA at one point or another. Without the NSA we likely wouldn't have crypto in the first place. And without computer activists and hackers we wouldn't have secure, widespread, public crypto as we know it today. Or cryptocurrencies, for that matter.

Think cryptography is bulletproof? Think again…

The sidechannel attack mentioned in this section has nothing to do with Bitcoin. Hell, it doesn't even have to do with cryptography.

Quantum computers are not magic devices that suddenly break everything. Worst case, quantum computers manage to derive the private key from the public key of an address, the latter which is not known until a transaction has been made -- hence, single-use BTC addresses, as by the original design, are unlikely to be affected by quantum computing.

Gotta love the conclusion though. I mean it sounds like the worst Sci-Fi movie ever, but it would make for a fun South Korean flick to watch while being stoned.

It is just a conspiracy, because there are no proofs that satoshi really existed, well, we have his profile in here, but that is not a real proof, because anyone could be using that account with the name of the real satoshi.

But it makes sense to think that bitcoin has been created only for economic purposes, just think about this:

* Bitcoin has been created on 2009, one year after the big crisis of the US.
* Who knows if bitcoin hasn't been created just to be a "preventive" solution or just a way to protect the global economy from a new bubble or just a new crisis?

Stop looking at bitcoin as a bubble, look at this as a new way to consider money.

I agree that more facts are needed to support the articles hypothesis. But on top of that the article author also doesn't take into consideration that with the decentralized nature of the blockchain and myriad other cryptocurrencies out there that if the "overall government" decides to create 1 official global currency they would be unable to stop others from propagating.

I am curious about the motive for promoting the idea; I first suspect banking interests.
