In summary, Lara won the fight as the favorite here, so there's no surprises from us. However, it seems that Danny Garcia career is over now with this lost. Maybe he will be given one last fight as farewell as he has a storied career at 140 lbs and 147 lbs and that could be his best weight class.

But looking at this performance in this fight, yeah, majority is right that inactivity is a big factor for a fighter that is past his prime. He could have take a tune up fight here to at least feel this division.

And with that, I'm going to close this thread and thanks to those who voted and congrats to those who win in this fight.

We are both right, Lara is the champion and even at 41 years old, he is very much active and so he is the favorite and clearly dominated Danny Garcia. While Danny is the younger fighter, but he is inactive and we can say that it's a big factor for any fighter, specially those who are already way past their prime. And it was a snoozer and a dull fight, Danny Garcia is not throwing enough punch and it seems that he was just there for the paycheck. While Lara wanted to give the fans a good show and it was just enough for him to score a knockdown. But it was just the highlight of the fight. Garcia didn’t say if he plans on retiring after the fight, but he should consider it. He doesn’t have enough left for him to compete at super welterweight and definitely not 160 lbs.

Right, majority of us who voted for Danny Garcia because we might have thought that he can still pull the trigger and that left hook is still his best weapon in this fight. But Lara was really in the best shape of his life even at 41 years old and Danny looks the older of the two as he was dazed and confused and there are no strategy for him, and most likely being out in the ring has really put a lot on his body that's why he look old.

And when he goes down to the canvass, he was already on his way out and could have surrendered. Yeah, he could have taken a tune up fight, however, he might have felt that it was not necessary, but it did show in this fight that he is not yet ready at this weight class.

I think some of us really think that Danny has still that one last good fight in him, but after the knock down you can see the surrender in his face and obviously, he is no longer in his prime at this weight might take a lot of his body. Also we knew that he is inactive and so this could contribute on his showing here. His timing is off from the very first round and he should at least take a tune up fight first instead of fighting the champion.

I guess he bypass a lot of high ranking fighters because of his name and maybe the match maker thinks that Danny can still the pull the trigger. So both are in the cross roads but it seems that Danny's career is over with this performance.

I feel sorry for Danny I picked him to win the fight because he always comes to fight but on this one he was at loss I was wondering if Lara is really that strong, as Danny cannot get through his defense but it seems the long inactivity is the culprit, the hardest thing for a boxer os quitting on his stool it takes away everything on the boxer.
If Danny decides to continue he needs to stay focused and forget this fight, but if he decides to retire then its good for him as he attains a lot in boxing, there is still life after boxing after all.

Yeah, I also noticed that, in the early rounds,, I thought something was wrong. This is not the Danny Garcia I came to know. I saw that his punches were way off, he threw telepathic punches that Lara can easily see; he is not aggressive when this is a title fight, and he was gunning for a record.

Its a big mistake taking this fight, he should have tested the division by taking a tune-up fight, and his long layoff made a negative impact too, I wonder where he is heading now, maybe its time for him to hang up his gloves for another fight like this, and the boxing community will lose respect for him and will waste his legacy.

Garcia probably made a mistake moving up without any tune-up fights before facing a champion. He looked weak in this bout, and by the later rounds, it seemed like he wasn’t throwing punches and felt the strength of Lara. It’s a shame because I was expecting a great fight, but Garcia didn’t seem fully prepared. He lost his edge, or maybe he just couldn’t bring his power with him.

Lara, even at 41, is still a champion. Congratulations to the bettors who backed him...no wonder Garcia was a huge underdog. What I thought was a gift turned out to be a trap.

Erislandy Lara is the oldest active champion and tonight we saw two fighters who looked aged and well past their best years. I have not seen the punch stats but I would be surprised if there was a single power punch landed in the entire first half of the fight.

In the ninth, Lara finally landed something of significance, a hard jab which dropped Garcia, and that was enough for Garcia to retire from the fight. He did not seem too hurt but it is obvious the motivation is not there anymore. It is best for him to retire now. Lara was only marginally better and should retire also.

I'm on Danny Garcia winning by decision, I have seen Garcia fighting the best fighters and have not seen him gassing out. He knows how to pace himself from the early rounds up to the last rounds, Lara's last wins come from lucky punches in the early rounds, so if he cannot contain Danny in the early rounds, then he will have problems in the latter rounds.

For Lara to win, he needs to knock Garcia out in the early rounds of the fight, for Garcia to win, he needs to bring the fight in the last round where he can dominate because he is young and had a good leg between the two, but one thing is for sure: we will have a very good fight between these two, because they always come to fight.

I don't know about it, but Lara should be considered as a known fighter, as others have said, we have reasons that he beat Canelo before and that could catapult his name already and fans should be familiar by him by now.

Danny Garcia too is also a very familiar specially in his campaign runs at 147 lbs. So I think both is still very known from the boxing fans as they have been putting up shows against the best of their era. And with that, who knows, it could be 50-50 but the bookies will have to put someone as a favorite and so Lara is the one as he is the champion and the more active and this is the first time that Garcia is going to fight in this division.

At 41, Lara is over extending himself but he is still good based on his last fight against Michael Zerafa His left straight still packs power but I have doubt if he can do that to Danny Garcia, who is a very agile boxer who loves to move around the ring and confuse his opponent.

Lara is older than Garcia, but I'll still bank on his experience. And Garcia has never fought a middleweight fight. So, though both Lara and Garcia have passed their prime, Lara was more of a star in 2014, but you still can't rub off the experience from someone who is doing what he likes doing.

So, for Garcia to have an edge against Lara, maybe he needs to put him in a tight corner and not give him space to breathe. Because Lara's age might get in the way, but I know that with proper practice, Lara might just have his last comeback in the boxing ring. He might just use his experience to know the tactics he needs to fight in the ring to win. Of course, Garcia has a good opportunity in this fight, he's younger and has more physical stability but Lara has confirmed his readiness to fight, and a willing mind can go a long way. A

I'm 50/50 on both of them. Lara has his experience and possibly his last comeback fight, but I want to see him put in the effort to win against Garcia. Meanwhile, Gracia knows he's going up against an icon, so he'll also want to put in his best effort in practice to do really well. Ultimately, I just want to see the best man win in the boxing ring.

Yes, he is the champion and should be the favorite. Maybe because he's not as well-known, we think Garcia should be the favorite. Danny Garcia’s inactivity is a big factor; if he were active, the odds might be closer to 50-50. Also, Lara isn’t undefeated and has a low KO ratio, so I think it will be a good fight. It might go the full 12 rounds, with a split decision as the result.

It might be deceiving to see that Danny Garcia is the underdog, but as you have said, he is inactive and this is the first time that he will go up in this weight and fight. Lara is the champion so that also speaks why he is the favorite. And we can all imagine this too good boxers fighting in their prime. I will say that they are only good because they've lost to the best. But I do like that boxing fans are still looking at Danny Garcia and wanting to bet on him, we can't deny that he will be a live dog here despite his inactivity as he is the younger of the two and could have more gas in his tank if this fight extended to a full distance. Lara is 41 years old, this could work against him if Garcia will make him work very hard in the early rounds.

It's a bit surprising that Danny Garcia is the underdog, considering it's been a while since his last fight, back in 2022. Hopefully, he's not too rusty. Lara has a good record, but he's getting older, so I'm leaning towards the younger fighter who's already had some big fights.

Maybe Lara is really good, which explains why he's the favorite despite being older, but since I want a bigger return, I'll go with the underdog.

I myself do not underestimate Lara, but Garcia's career is very clear and I myself if I want to bet I will bet on Garcia who I think has a greater chance of winning, but I don't know what it will be like because as you said, every opponent certainly has the intention to defeat his opponent because here is the victory sought. Judging from the physical, these two boxers have a height that is not much different, even the same, so there is no advantage in this other than their own tactics and attacks that will determine it. Garcia is the challenger so it is on him how he will face Lara to acquire the belt. Without preparation, Lara can easily retain the belt. In most cases, boxing is all about preparation/training and how their coach is mentally and physically preparing for the fight of his boxer.

Both might be past their prime, but Lara is more active than Garcia hence, that might be a big factor on this upcoming classical match.
I still remember how slick Lara is and how good he is on defense, but it's been a long time since he got a big fight, and so does Garcia that hasn't been on the ring for around 2 years. That might affect his performance coming to this fight, and the fact that he never had a fight on Middleweight division is also a factor as well.

Nevertheless, this is a make or break decision for Garcia. 3 fights in the last 4 years (this would be the 4th one) for me isn't a good sign. I mean it would be better if you're still active, fighting at least once or twice per year. If Lara has a disadvantage for this match, that would be the age, but his active still so I don't see it that much of a problem from him.

If I will predict between the two, I'd go with Lara as well, but let's enjoy the fight still.

I vote for Garcia on this based on their experience and winning percentage. He is younger compared to his opponent Lara but I never see the impact of it. Of course, this will never be an easy win for him as his opponent has also an excellent record but yes, it all depends on the actual situation because both of them want to win and surely give their best.

They are in the twilight of their career, but I think it's good to see them fight as pro instead of like some exhibition matches. I guess they still want to proved something even if they know that they are no longer in their primes. I like the Adames fight for whoever wins here, but I say that this division is not that stack up as well so this is a good chance for this two boxers, if anything left with them, to win some more belts before they retire.

Both fighters have been very respectful towards each other, a little too respectful if you as me. A singular statement does not stand out over all the other comments they have had about the match and you can be sure the media will try to make their headlines as polarizing as possible.

Well I still wanted to see this fight even though they are no longer in their primes. Lara though is the natural bigger guy here, the older, but very much active as compare to Danny Garcia. Danny's best weight class though could be in the 147 lbs division because during his prime this division is pretty much stack up, but he losses to the best of them. And after the move to 154 lbs had a not very impressive campaign.

Now this is his last chance to win another belt, I don't know, but maybe the age of Lara will finally reveal itself. Boxers are also as good as in their last fight, and so with that, I might go with the underdog here to win by decision.

Both are great boxers and Danny Garcia himself was once champion in two different classes and for Erislandy Lara is also the holder for the WBA super middle class.
Of course Erislandy Lara is the favorite and is favored in his fight against Danny Garcia, but I doubt this match will end quickly as many people have talked about the chances for Erislandy Lara to get KO victory.
I think Danny Garcia can also give surprise that might make him win, I sure this fight will end in full round and the winner is based on the decision, the chances for Danny Garcia are also quite good.

Every fighter has the intention to knock his opponents out, although Lara might possesses a knockout power, Danny Garcia's chin is solid throughout in his career and I haven't seen him touching the canvass.


Garcia is the underdog and so according to sports bookies, he has obviously the greater chance of not winning. Nevertheless, we have seen huge underdog winning their fights and taking the belt from the champion. And Danny Garcia is his career has beaten a few good fighters and also become a champion. I think Lara too is the champion of WBA and then Danny Garcia is ranked 10 in this organization. So in paper it might look to be a good fight, but Lara is the obvious favorite. However, I was not able to follow Lara's career, and I thought the had hang up his gloves many years ago.

Yes, both are way past their primes, and probably fighting for the paycheck. Danny Garcia though could have gotten busy in his career after vacating 147 lbs. Janibek Alimkhanuly holds the IBF and WBO, so if Lara wanted to unify it should be on Janibek, Adames though holds the WBC.

It's good to be confident if you can back up all the talks here. But I think Danny Garcia has a good chance in his fight. Looking at the age of Lara, he is already way past his primes as we have said. So he shouldn't be that confident here although I think his belt is on the line as this division seems to be weak.

We might see Garcia getting back the hands of time, so still boils down to the game plan. If it is going to be slow phase, I reckon that Lara has the advantage, but if the fight goes on a fast phase specially in the first 6 rounds, Danny Garcia has a great chance to pull an upset.

That's the quote I got from one of the news about this match that will take place later. Looking at the chances of victory between each of these fighters by showing that Garcia has a greater chance of winning than Lara, I think Lara is too confident, I mean being confident is okay but don't underestimate anyone, especially those who already have experience like Garcia, which as in the quote I got, Garcia is a former world champion in a different class. Of course Garcia is not an easy opponent to beat and I think Lara saying he will KO Garcia can be a weapon for himself that can embarrass him if Garcia is the one who will KO him.

Danny Garcia has never fought at middleweight and that is why Lara is the favorite. Both are well past their prime and are older in age so I would expect this to be a slow paced fight. They have both been semi-retired but whoever looses should definitely retire for good. I imagine the winner will have the opportunity to unify with Adames, although I have doubts if Danny Garcia still has the motivation to continue. Even if he wins, he might choose to retire and go out as a champion.

This is some old school fight, this boxers are relevant around 2015 era if I'm not mistaken. But still good that they are still here although the hype is no longer in their names. Lara is too technical though that's why he was able to stay in the game even at age 40.

And then Danny Garcia, his signature left hook, comparable to Nonito Donaire during his prime. For Danny Garcia to win, he needs to brawl, or force Lara to fight him in the middle or even in the corner, but not let him dictate the tempo with his superior jab. Danny Garcia should be the aggressor here and make Lara not comfortable as he might not have enough gas tank to last a full 12 rounds.

Lara is the more active of the two although he is way older at 41 years old. He might be active though, but it seems that he fought tomato can fighters, reaching and becoming a champion again. I like his jab though, lefty and he uses it wisely, and I do agree that he could have won the fight against Canelo back then.

But Danny Garcia still possesses a nifty left hook, although I would say that he is not elite because once he step up the competition, he usually losses. And we will be having a hard time connecting that left hook because Lara has a good defense as well and as I have said, his strength will be in his jab to keep Garcia at bay. I will go with Lara here but probably in a decision win.

I know that this two could have been in their cross road of their careers. But I still it's worth to look at this fight, in my opinion. And for sure others might agree that Lara schooled Canelo when they fought in 2014 and should have won that fight. Unfortunately, he was robbed and lost by SD.
