Rumor about Jack Catterall next fight.. which one do you like?

Jack Catterall next fight: Haney, Garcia and Teofimo would be 50/50 contests, says Eddie Hearn

I’d love to see some real action with Catterall challenging Teofimo. It’s not going to be easy since Teofimo is on a different level compared to Prograis, but Catterall would definitely make a great challenger for the champion. Hopefully, this fight becomes a reality.

The easiest fight to make would be Catterall against the winner of Hitchins vs. Paro, because it would be an in-house fight for Matchroom. I expect that will be next and then we might see a unification.

Haney has been inactive for a long time now and he might decide to come back soon. He could be considered as an opponent for Catterall, but stylistically, it would not be a very attractive fight because they are both defensively oriented.

Yeah, most likely, Matchroom wanted all the money in-house, just like what Bob Arum uses to do and up to this day, that his one strategy. And I think it will not sell as well, fans still wanted a rematch with Garcia, and if Haney wanted to have his biggest paycheck, then he should do a second fight with Ryan with all the stipulations on drug  testing.

Not sure if Teo wanted any smoke from Catterall, although in paper it will really look good for Teo if he can defend his belt. But Jack seems to be very hungry at this point and he might pull a upset on Teo, in my opinion. So I don't see Teo accepting Jack as his next opponent.

While this might be a possibility, Eddie Hearn is definitely hyping it up by calling it a 50-50 matchup. It’s clear that Catterall isn’t quite at the level of these two champions yet. Sure, he showed his skills against Taylor, but Taylor was already past his prime. Even against Teofimo, I think Catterall could be facing his first KO against this powerhouse of a boxer.

Interestingly, there’s already a post on Facebook about this potential fight, asking, “Who wins between the two?”

If I'm not mistaken, Jack Catterall is promoted by Hearn? If this is the case and we all know that Lopez is with Top Rank, there could be animosity between Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum, but if they talk about business, for sure they can step aside their difference and set this fight for a good paycheck on both boxers. Of course, Teo will be the A-side as he is the lineal champion.

The question is who will give in when both promoters are full of pride and hate each other. They will want to make their fighter the priority, but since Teo is the champion he should have the luxury of first choice and has a huge cut on the paycheck.
I hope the boxing organizations will make Caterral mandatory in Teo's defense; after all, Caterral deserves a title shot after his impressive showing against Prograis, politics should not get in the way in boxing, its what stopping great fighters to fight each other because of the priude and greediness of their promotion, I hope we don't see it here.

Eddie Hearn knows that Teo is the champion or shall we say that his boy is the challenger and so he ha to give in to the demands if Teo or Top Rank if they wanted to have a crack at that belt.

They have work before though, and this is not the first time so they could still make the fight for the sake of business. They work when Jack fought Josh Taylor in the rematch and even if we hear that Bob blasted the officiating in front of Eddie Hearn, still nothing has change. Jack though has a lot of options, maybe he can wait the winner of Paro vs Hitchins as well and be the mandatory.

Regis Prograis got reckless after scoring a knockdown in the sixth round, thinking he could finish off Catterall. However, the opposite happened. After being knocked down twice, Prograis never recovered and ultimately lost the fight.

As for Jack Catterall, I think he is ready to face Teofimo Lopez next if Top Rank wants their fighter to defend the belt against him.
Both fighters seemed to have similar power in their punches, but Catterall was smarter than Prograis, which is why he got the win. It was a unanimous decision, and the scoring wasn’t even close. I’m pretty sure this indicates that Prograis might need to hang up his gloves and start enjoying retirement.

True, this lost could be a signal that it's time for Regis to hang up his gloves, maybe he can be a boxing commentator or he can still involved himself in the background like a coach or he could be a influencer to young fighters.

As for a potential Catterall fight with Lopez, I think Top Rank would be thrilled to see this matchup. They’re focused on building Teofimo, who is definitely a more exciting boxer than anyone else in the division.

He made a wrong judgment by underestimating Jack Catterall, even as the underdog. At the start, he was actually winning; if you look at the scorecards that were flashed, Prograis was leading in the first four rounds, IIRC. But after getting knocked down twice, things turned sour for him. He couldn’t get his timing right anymore and seemed to be looking for a one-punch KO, which left him open for Catterall's counter punches.

Message @Hhampuz if you are looking for a CM!
I have seen the fight, and I don't think he is old; he is just off and too eager. I think he underestimated Caterral on this fight; he was the underdog, but I don't see him taking precautions; he is throwing cautions to the wind with too many wild punches, and Caterral just caught with his counter punches.
There was a time that he is looking for knockout, he should have just accumulate points and be aggressive in the latter rounds, it turn out he become desperate in the championship rounds.
And I thought the fight would be close, but Caterral really scouted his weakness.

For Regis, he is old in this fight, and I do agree that it's time for him to just rest and retire for good.

I thought this wasn’t a championship fight, but when I watched the fight highlights on DAZN channel, the announcer mentioned that Jack Catterall is the new WBO International Super Lightweight Champion. So, who are the champions at this level, and where does this title fit in the rankings?
That win by Jack Catterall acts like an umbrella in that division, giving him recognition that will likely lead to a better ranking and make him a mandatory challenger. In the rankings you shared, there’s no Super Lightweight Champion listed, but it’s referred to as Junior Welterweight (140 lbs.), where the current champion is Teofimo Lopez Jr.
Thank you for the explanation! I thought he was already a champion, but it turns out he’s not really one in the division since Teofimo Lopez holds that title. After this win, I’m not sure if his rank will improve enough to become a mandatory challenger, but if it does, we could see a good matchup. Lopez is the type of boxer who doesn’t focus much on defense; he just wants to attack, as seen in his fight against George Kambosos Jr. where he lost. But that was in a lower division, if I’m not mistaken.

He was almost that close of becoming a champion, he fought Josh Taylor, then reigning unified champion, but the results didn't favor Jack Catterall as the judges score the fight for Taylor. And Taylor wouldn't give him the rematch and instead fought Teo Lopez in which he lost the belt.

And with this win, for sure his ranking will go up in the all governing bodies. He could crack top 5 already with this big win.

For Regis, he is old in this fight, and I do agree that it's time for him to just rest and retire for good.

Jack was spot on; on Prograis weaknesses, he really learned a lot watching Prograis loss to Haney; the counterpupches landed at the right time; he knew Prograis speed and aggressiveness, and he countered it with the right timing on landing the counterpunches; Prograis knew that he lost even before the judges were being read.
Prograis loss to Haney is ugly, but this one is more ugly because he made the same mistake on this fight: too aggressive and out-of-range punches. This is a risky fight for Prograis, but he still takes it. This is going to be a hard climb for Prograis; he should take an easy fight on his next fight to get his motivation back.
Prograis was pretty predictable, which allowed Jack Catterall to use his counterpunches effectively. While Prograis has a solid chin, he lost his strategy in the later rounds, leading to Catterall dominating the fight. If Prograis ends up challenging Teofimo, I doubt he’ll have much of a chance against a stronger and more technical fighter. But I’d still love to watch that fight if it happens, especially after seeing how aggressive Catterall is.

As everyone predicted, Catterall won the fight by unanimous decision. Prograis started tough but couldn’t make the necessary adjustments, which allowed Catterall to dominate most rounds. Those two knockdowns were significant, especially with one round scoring 10-7 in favor of Catterall. Hopefully, next year we’ll see Catterall facing bigger fights against more popular boxers, especially since Prograis was already exposed by Haney before this match.
Catterall victory was quite surprising to me, because indeed previously I hoped for strong resistance from Prograis in the fight, especially from the first round to the third round it was actually seen if Catterall was able to launch more punches towards Prograis which made him almost fall at the end of the third round, the fight in my opinion was actually more interesting when entering the fourth to last round because Prograis began to try to back attack, and finally we can see how both boxers got a wound in the face, the victory over Prograis has shown Catterral incredible fighting ability and well-thought-out strategy, the victory from prograis will further open up his chances in the Super Lightweight Title fight later, I think Catterral path to a world title in the 140-pound class is getting closer right now and he just needs to face some better boxers to prove his capacity now.

Despite an early flash knockdown, Catterall was able to bounce back and with great defense and counterpunching dominated his opponent. Prograis is a one dimensional pressure fighter who struggles against slick boxers. His chin is also questionable after getting dropped by Haney once and twice by Catterall, two fighters with less than average power.

I think Regis was overrated, during his prime 140 lbs are not really that deep that's why he was able to stay in this division and we thought that he could be the one. But once he lost a fight, it's totally different mentality for him. And I read that he is considering retirement after his lost. It's fitting though as he has nothing to offer with back to back losses and his chin becoming questionable.

With his two most recent wins, Catterall should be given an opportunity to fight for a world title. The fight that most people want to see is against Teofimo because they want to see the cocky loudmouth Teo lose. Teo has looked bad recently and would be an underdog in this fight so I’m expecting him to avoid this fight as long as possible.

This is also what I see with Jack now, it can't be denied that he is a prospect with successive wins. Hopefully he will be given by any governing body a crack from their champion. It will be interesting if Teo will say yes to a Catterall fight. Might be like Kambosos vs Lopez, wherein Kambosos pull a big upset against Teo.

Prograis learned a lot from the Haney fight but Caterral also will see a lot of loopholes on Prograis style,
What he learned in that fight won’t really apply here because Catterall doesn’t have Haney’s speed. Catterall likes to go toe-to-toe, and that’s actually a style Prograis would feel more comfortable with since Catterall is slower. This one’s shaping up to be a technical battle, and I don’t think Prograis will look like he did against Haney at all.

It's going to be a tactical battle as both of them could be going toe to toe as it fight more of their style. Prograis though for me might be slowing down a bit in his career. He has been in a lot of wars as well, so maybe that Devin fight, has exposed his wear and tear as it was really surprising that he did go down as Haney is not known to be a power puncher but more of a technical fighter.

So let's see if he has learn his lessons, or if he that kind of boxer that when he is hurt, all strategies are thrown in the window and he goes toe to toe. Unless his corner will always reminds him of their plans and strategy. Again, this fight will really depend on what version of Prograis will show here. If he is what we say already on the sunset, then Catterall might win here. But if he shows that he has that one last fight in him, then maybe he can win by decision.

He doesn't have to have the speed of Haney; where else can a boxer scout the weakness of his opponent? Of course, from his losses, there's two ways for a boxer to check the weakness of his opponent through his losses and second from a fighter they both fought.
I mentioned that this is not a fight where one fighter will dominate the others; it will come down to who studied the other guy's weakness better, and it is usually those losses that expose a boxer's weakness.

Everyone seems to be underestimating Regis here, and as per the odds, he is a big underdog. Really don't know what happen to him in the Haney fight, yes he is the underdog but prior to that he has been dominating his opponents with power. But in the Haney fight, it's totally different as he allows Haney to control the distance and the phase of the fight. So I'm thinking that he might have learn his lessons from that fight and will try to give his 100% here so that he will have another chance to win a belt here. So for me he should be considered as a live underdog in this fight and who knows, we've seen strange result lately and underdog winning big.

Prograis learned a lot from the Haney fight but Caterral also will see a lot of loopholes on Prograis style, In boxing, the boxer learned his lesson on his losses but his opponent will also learn from his weakness, The Haney fight is very ugly to the point that Prograis doesn't want to remember the fight and fight fans will not want to see a rematch because on that fight, Prograis was totally dominated.
In boxing, we have a saying
Quote
style makes a fight
Both fighters have similar and contrasting styles. This is what will make things interesting; the Caterral style of slugging it out will have an edge if Prograis can't take Catterral punches, power will play a major factor on this fight, who got more power get the fight.

Eddie Hearn says its a 50/50 fight, and I like to believe it is because both fighters want to win this to advance their careers.

I’m more inclined to bet on Jack Catterall in this fight since he’s coming off three consecutive wins after his setback against Josh Taylor in their first fight. Unfortunately, there are no ML odds available yet on my favorite bookies. In my opinion, Regis Prograis is on the decline. He desperately needs this fight, and a win would reestablish him as a contender in this division. One thing I don’t like about him is that he got knocked down in his fight against Devin Haney, who isn’t known as a hard hitter.

Yes, he has a big win against Josh Taylor, but it was too late though, there are no belts as Josh is already done when he fought him. But still a win for Jack and he avenge his lost to him. And it's good that they were able to set him again to be in the contention for the belt against Regis.

The only odds that is attractive in this fight is that if this fight goes to distance. Currently, it's 3.xx. So if Regis try to fight within the distance as he might be very careful here because he doesn't want to be knock down or worst knockout for good, he might just used his jabs to keep Jack at bay.

Is Eddie Hearn promoting either of the fighter? If yes, then obviously, that is his job, to look like in paper this fight is going to be great for boxing fans. But if we look at the odds, Jack is a huge favorite here.
He is the promoter of Prograis and this event.

And I do agree that Regis could have been in the decline already, starting with that lost to Devin Haney. Doubt as well that if can make a comeback at 140 weight class has a lot of great fighters already. Unlike before, when him and Josh that are taking this weight class. So here it's possible that Jack aggressiveness might put Regis again in the canvass and be knockout (that could be a great odd).
That’s probably what we’ll see in this fight, especially with the current betting odds pointing that way.

Quote
Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis Betting Odds
Jack Catterall -400
Regis Prograis +292

But we'll have to confirm once the odds are up with our go-to bookies, but I’m still thinking Catterall will likely come out as the favorite. Hopefully, he won’t be a heavy favorite, so we can grab some solid odds..

Your choice to bet on Catterall is quite reasonable, because indeed he is a boxer who has a pretty good record at the moment, but Prograis is also not an amateur boxer who will be easily defeated by Catterall later, so far the two boxers have a fighting record that is not much different, but indeed If we look at the 3 consecutive victories achieved by Catterall, of course he has shown consistent and strong performance,  whereas on the other hand, Prograis does seem to be in a downward mentality, especially after his losing the WBC super lightweight title last December against Devin Haney, but even so I think Prograis will try to rise and destroy Catterall in front of his own supporters later, so far I think the fight will be very unpredictable even though Catterall is the favorite.

Is Eddie Hearn promoting either of the fighter? If yes, then obviously, that is his job, to look like in paper this fight is going to be great for boxing fans. But if we look at the odds, Jack is a huge favorite here.

I checked with my bookie, and nothing's out yet. But no worries, we’ve still got time, the fight’s on the 26th, so we’ll have a day to place our bets. I’m sure the odds will be up by then. Kinda odd they haven’t posted them yet, especially since this is a pretty big fight, right?

There's the odds i see now,

Will the fight goes to the distance?

yes. 1.28
no. 3.30

So no KO is expected here.

Here is the highlight of the final press conference: not much heat between the two guys, but they are motivated to come out as the winner. Prograis needs this win very badly, and he admits that. Caterral is looking to have a title shot if he wins against Prograis.

Press Conference Highlights | Jack Catterall vs. Regis Prograis

Definitely, Prograis knows what is at stake as this fight, he needs to win badly so that his name will be in the discussion still at 140 lbs. But as I have said, it could Regis last stand here as his era might come to an end. As compare to Jack wherein he was really on the trail to win a big against Josh Taylor and he could be really a champion, unfortunately, the judges take that out from him.

The good thing is that he was able to bounce back and win and beat Josh in the rematch. Prograis is still 3:1 underdog in this fight and it could really shows that somewhat, the odd makers are seeing Prograis just being a gate keeper now after that lost to Devin Haney.

Honestly, he might just spend the rest of his career trying to take Garcia down and squeeze out some cash through lawsuits.

That's a bit much...maybe Haney's just taking a break while waiting for the other boxers to step up so he can get some real competition. Sure, it’s clear he was pretty crushed after losing to Ryan Garcia. But when it later came out that Garcia used illegal substances to win, it just proved Haney was the better fighter. I mean, Ryan had to resort to cheating to get that win. But maybe, if Catterall wins this fight, he’d be a great matchup for Haney. Haney, in my opinion, hasn’t been quite the same since that loss, even though it’s not officially on record.

I don't know if taking those Peds really help Ryan Garcia though. We already know that he is a big puncher and Devin Haney's chin is suspected already and it's just a matter of time before someone can crack it.

For sure he might be just waiting in the sideline to see those boxers fighting each other, but with the way Ryan beat's him, who knows if he still has the mentality to be competitive again at 140 lbs. Just like what we have seen on Tim this weekend, eh face a tough opponent in his comeback and when he was knockdown, he seems to be shock and thinking of the Fundora fight. If Jack Catterall wins here, for sure his stock are going to go up and maybe he will have a chance to fight for the championship belt in the future.

No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small
Let's see how Regis will be in this fight, if he lose then I guess he could be in the sunset of his career already.
That's probably what’ll go down. Catterall's been grinding hard to become a champion, and even though this fight isn’t for a title, he really deserves it. He’s had a better career path compared to Prograis, who was a champ before. And as for Haney, just forget about him - he still can't get over his loss to Garcia. Honestly, he might just spend the rest of his career trying to take Garcia down and squeeze out some cash through lawsuits.

^^ The landscape at 140 has change already. Devin Haney is no longer a champion (although he was reinstated after Ryan Garcia was suspended for PEDs), Subriel Matias who has been said as one of the most avoided champion has lost to Liam Paro. Same with Pitbull Cruz, against Valenzuela.

And I think Regis Prograis is just a remnant of previous era as his most contemporaries is gone like Josh Taylor and Ramirez. But the good thing is that he will have another fight against a boxer who have been deprived a belt. And maybe the winner could either fight the champion next in the WBC.

Let's see how Regis will be in this fight, if he lose then I guess he could be in the sunset of his career already.

Prograis is the more accomplished and overall better fighter. However, his career has stalled since competing in the World Boxing Super Series and he hasn’t reached the level we thought he would. Catterall has the momentum right now and is seen as the favorite to win. Even though Catterall isn’t the most crowd pleasing fighter, he has the technical style that Prograis tends to have problems with.

Catterall is on a 3 fight winning streak, after that bad decision lost he got from Josh Taylor, he had rebounded from that and even defeating Josh in the rematch but there is no belt on the line. Now, Regis Prograis doesn't look good when he lost to Devin Haney and Devin even put him on the canvass, that is odd as Prograis is one of the champion here in this division and fighting former champions Zepeda (win) and Taylor (L).

So I guess this could be his last chance to have his name still in the discussion at 140 lbs. Because it seems that the landscape has change already as there are new champions popping up.

I agree that Caterral has the momentum because of his winning against Josh Taylor and Prograis will be coming off against a humiliating defeat from Haney, there's too much pressure for Prograis to perform better.
Caterral can learn a lot from watching the Haney - Prograis fight, prograis was totally exposed by Haney and if he can capitalize on Prograis' weakness, he has a chance to win the fight. I have Caterall winning by decision; but it will just go up to who wants the fight more.

But if you fancy upset here, seems Prograis has a good chance also to beat Catterall. Looking at the KO percentage of Prograis vs Catterall, Prograis has higher rate. But maybe, it was because his last fight, why he is the underdog in this match. In my opinion, Prograis has the chance to beat Catterall if he is well-prepared for this fight.

Prograis though was once the biggest name at 140 lbs, until Haney took his belt, not sure what happened to him in that fight, but it looks like he was just a 'shell of himself". But still this is a good fight, both are aggressive fighters. So I wouldn't be surprise if the fight goes to the judges scorecard, full 12 rounds. However, I might go with Catterall here by decision. Odds though for Prograis here are very much attractive as he is the underdog.

After watching that fight, I’m switching sides and rooting for Catterall to win. Prograis didn’t show the skills or heart of a champion in his fight with Haney. He played it so safe, it felt like he was the challenger instead of the champ. That really made me lose confidence in him. Now, I’m putting my trust in a more exciting fighter, and I believe Catterall could even win by KO.

This is a good matchup; they have a contrasting style, Regis is a boxer, while Caterral is a slugger but both fighters loves to go toe to toe, both fighters always came to fight, even though its not a championship fight both fighters will definitely give everything they got because its possibly a step for a crack of a title.
Caterral came to my attention because of his fights against Taylor; those fights were controversial and action-packed, and of course Prograis is a former champion who was dominated by Haney.
Both fighters are still on the height of their careers, so both fighters need this win badly, especially Prograis who is coming from a loss.
I have Prograis winning by a decision; he is too technical and can handle Caterral's aggressiveness.

Right, Jack's name pop up because of his fight with Josh Taylor, many believed that he beat Josh the first time. And then it took years for the rematch to take as Josh seems to avoid him. However, Josh is wash up already when they had that rematch.

The fight that was postponed will finally take place on October 26. While it’s not a championship bout, both fighters deserve the main event spotlight, as they are highly entertaining.

Regis Prograis is coming off a loss to Devin Haney, which cost him his title, while Jack Catterall, with just one loss, recently defeated Josh Taylor by unanimous decision. This fight was originally scheduled for August but was delayed due to Catterall’s injury. Now that he’s ready, get set for a very exciting matchup.

In terms of rankings, Catterall holds a better spot in the division, as seen here: https://www.boxingscene.com/rankings.

As for the betting odds, I haven’t found them on the bookies I use, but sources say Catterall is the heavy favorite.

Highly intriguing, the battle between Regis Prograis and Jack Catterall- not least regarding the recent work they have both shown up to; a loss for Prograis against Devin Haney certainly brings questions into play as far as how his mental and physical preparation will be in this specific bout. He needs to get his confidence back after losing the perch a bit of self-doubt is the biggest thing to chip away at a fighter's performance. On the other hand, however, victory on points for Catterall over Josh Taylor showed a lot of promise, and he was in a good position going into this fight. The importance in which he places can increase his urge to seize this opportunity. I also did find it very interesting that Catterall is the favorite of the older generations. It helps know what the betting odds are. As that would reflect the public sentiment and, hopefully, profitable bets. Giving Prograis's talent, it might be worth taking into consideration if his skills reflect well. Especially if he is a good game planner, and he implements that well.

Overall, I think this battle is very important for both the fighters. For Prograis, it is going to show whether he can recover and build up such distance from his opponent during a long battle. For Catterall, it will be a defense battle for a registered record. Proving that did not fluke the victory over Taylor, it actually meant that should turn out to be a fun fight between a lot of odds.

You provide a strong overall understanding of the different models of Regis Prograis and Jack Catterall. Prograis' technical prowess as a boxer must inform the outward angle of punch from Catterall, but Catterall's shooting style can create space for himself. can But often leaves open that door for a skilled gardener like Prograis to be effective.

The previous battles by Catterall and Taylor will only add a different taste to the rivalry. Those bouts displayed Catterall toughness and his ability to keep up with a clip, but I don't know how he could perform against the Ring IQ and defensive abilities Prograis has. Progress high-level experience in fighting might play to his favor. Especially in the later rounds when conditioning and technique kick in. I like your call that Prograis takes it on a decision. Because it means he will utilize his technical prowess to survive Catterall, he has to factor in how both fighters will take the pressure of winning. He could take Catterall's aggressive punches since the beginning and, if he can stomach that, his technical domination will speak out.
