But in the end you are right that the fight ended with full 12 round finish, there was one good opportunity in the 12th round for Lopez to beat Claggett by knockout but it all failed and Lopez victory only ended with unanimous decision.
Since the first round the fight was really fierce but Lopez was far superior with the aggressiveness of quite lot of punches, this is what gave Lopez points advantage and won to retain his championship title.

Lopez was superior indeed but that unanimous win by Lopez is not what the majority of us are expecting, i mean Claggett is tailored fit for Lopez's style as the former was aggressive and yet Lopez failed to knock out the always-forward style of Claggett.

Lopez's future lies on the hands of Top Rank now whether he will move up in weight to fight Crawford or clean this division before moving up, we will just wait and see.

Teofimo Lopez and Steve Claggett both have quite high knockout ratios and are almost equal, anyone would also believe that they would not fight the full 12 rounds because the finish would definitely end in knockout.
Nowadays, a boxer with a 65% KO ratio is not already considered as high. IMO, a high is 90% up.

As per boxrec, Lopez has 65% Ko ratio while Claggett have %68... So both fighters are not really a KO artist, and this could go to distance.
Well, we never know what would happen but I like the chances of Lopez winning the fight again.

Based on the odds also, this could be a mismatch.

But at least that is number that is more than 50% ratio because with ratio of more than 65% it can be proof that the chances of winning by knockout can be greater, it just that this is only ratio from calculating the track record between the fighters and I judge it based on what I know.
It not guarantee, but it only prediction and anything can happen easily and it can't be according to expectations, we can only predict and estimate it, for the results we have to really wait for the fight to be finished.

Knockout percentage isn't enough to tell us whether a bout ends up in KO or not. There are factors that affect that. Moving up in weight could take significant power from a boxer. Age is another factor. The opponent is also a factor. In the case of Teofimo, he was only a knockout artist early in his career that's why he's got a high percentage. But then he was only able to knockout an unknown Campa since his UD win over Loma in 2020.

Add to it that Claggett is a hard man to knockout. Although aggressive, which should have been an advantage to Teofimo's knockout opportunity, the man wasn't even knocked down. Had he been throwing more punches instead of just staying in front of Lopez all the time covering up, he could have scored better.

@Natalim. Agreed! Pitbull fights very much similar to Mike Tyson when Tyson was younger. However, what Pitbull does not have in his style is Mike Tyson's footwork and head movement. Teo will certainly give him organic eye glasses from all of the punches to Pitbull's eyes heheheh. Also, on Pitbull's style he should he very careful because he will have brain damage if he does not include head movement and footwork to avoid punches of his opponents, I reckon.

He had head movement and a good chin and obviously has power. And they are totally different style with George Kambosos for me, and somewhat I think Pitbull is technical as well. He knows how to parry shots and again good head movement.

So it will be like Claggett all over again for Teo but this time, he will be facing a power puncher so he should not stick to the style that he uses against Claggett of letting him be in the corner and then Pitbull just bulldozing his way and hitting Lopez with power shots.

I very much disagree that Pitbull has very good headmovment because very good headmovement for a boxer should he something similar to young Mike Tyson who was trained by Cus Amato, Teddy Atlas and has perfected the headmovement with Kevin Rooney. Mike Tyson was difficult to punch on the head and he was very fast to avoid punches also because he had the best footwork of any heavyweight boxer in all of the  history of this sport.

Pit Bull is very easy to punch on the head and he does not use very much headmovement because he has a strong jaw. However, this will not be very strong when it has received many punches. There will be a boxer that will give him a knockout within 5 years.

We define him too literal because of his alias which is "Pitbull". As I understand it, that means "attack", and that's the style I saw on him. I  think He is just different and since he is a champion, that proved that he is not an ordinary boxer. In fact, he was already proven as he went toe to toe against Davis and some fans even think that he was robbed in that fight.

True, there could be boxing pundits who think that Pitbull won against Davis, but later we found out that Tank had suffered a injury in his hands that's why he can't throw as much as he can in that fight.

But against Rolly Romero, who was simply bullied by Pitbull because he has chin and power and Romero can't do anything about the aggressive and "attack" mode of Pitbull Cruz. And that's why as boxing fans, we are interested to see how he will do with a similar type of fighter in Claggett but with devasting one punch knockout. And it seems that Teo is willing to risk as he called out Pitbull Cruz and hopefully Arum is willing as well to go down and talk to the camp of Cruz for unification fight.

But for Lopez, he should just stay at his comfort zone of 140 lbs and he will be good and fight the likes of Pitbull Cruz.

He definitely has a good chance against PitBull Cruz as the latter isn't a technical fighter. Cruz will continue to be aggressive like George Kambosos Jr., so he already has an idea of how to deal with that kind of boxer, having suffered a defeat before. But as you've mentioned, he is in his comfort zone, so he'll be able to move well and use his power efficiently.

@bisdak40. I speculate the reason might be because he is not being paid enough money. Does anyone remember why he said he announced his retirement? He said he deserves more money, however, the offers being given to him are not enough. We cannot blame the promoters also because who did he fight after George Kambosos.

Teo is obviously looking for the money, and based on his performance against Claggett, how can he be paid with big money if he can't knockout a boxer with 7 losses and keep on charging against him and the fight going to the distance?

We might witness Teo on his best if he will challenge the best. I reckon he should challenge Pitbull for the unification of the WBA and WBO championships and begin the unification of all the 4 championships in super lightweight. This will certainly collect a good purse for Teo.

Yeah, that's what they say, but still go, this is supposedly a get busy fight for you and they pick up a fighter that they assumed that Teo will knockout and so he will look good so that his hype is still there under his name. But everyone was not impressive and then he called Crawford next? LOL.

He called Bud Crawford? Hehehee this is proof that he wants to collect a very big purse. Also, agreed on your argument that how can the promoters give him a very big purse if he is difficult to hype because his performances against boxers that he can knockout he does not knockout. Teo might be a lazy boxer who does not deserve money and stardom.

On Crawford, I wish he will fight the other king of welterweight, Boots Ennis hehehehe.

Yes, he did they said that they are going to fight him against Brian Norman, a Welterweight interim champion, WBO belt holder. And so if that happens then Teo is going to move up and challenge the weakest of the champion. But still a question on him as his 140 lbs recent fight didn't produce anything.

Crawford is moving up to 154 lbs, but let's see if he can still go down to fight at 147 and fight Ennis or if he wins at 154 lbs, he might go with the rematch against Spence or fight the other champion in Fundora.

But for Lopez, he should just stay at his comfort zone of 140 lbs and he will be good and fight the likes of Pitbull Cruz.

Teo might be thinking that he can take advantage of Crawford’s age and inactivity. At this point I am sure Crawford still has enough to beat him. I doubt Crawford will even be interested because Teo hasn’t done enough to create demand for this fight. There are much bigger challenges for Crawford, such as Canelo.

Yes, Crawford should pursue a fight with Canelo, as the latter is a proven PPV attraction. If Crawford were to lose, he could attribute it to the difficulty of maintaining his power after moving up in weight, similar to how Canelo made excuses after losing to Bivol.

Regarding Teo, he should continue fighting and aim for more championship bouts to build his popularity, rather than cherry-picking opponents he can easily defeat. Instead of challenging Crawford, he could challenge Spence Jr., who would also be a real though opponent and provide a huge test of his abilities.

Usually that's what we see in Teo, if he faces a good opponent his best is going to come out. But against a not so well-known fighter in Claggett and with no power at all, Lopez has a lackluster performance, it could be because of the ring rust, but still though, if you are truly what you say, you can shake off that ring rust after a couple of rounds and then found your rhythm.

But not in this fight, if not for him following his corner, he dad that he needs to push Claggett and now allow him to be cornered, then who knows, maybe he will take more damage that expected. Yeah, a challenge with Pitbull will be a great found and also could be a good paycheck for him as he will be the A-side as he is the lineal champion.

I do agree with this, he doesn't have the power that he had at 135 lbs, although he still have that speed, but the impact on his opponents are not the same anymore. He said though that he knows what he expects in this fight as Claggett is a  triathlon athlete according to him, so he knows that he will be coming forward. It's good if him and Pitbull Cruz will be next, we will the same aggressive style but with power.

Might be a conclusive thinking that indeed Teo Lopez left his power on the 135 pound division because of no knockout win in his last three fights. Claggett was handpick for him to look good in the ring but he didn't disposed him impressively. I don't think that Teo Sr would risk his son's career on fighting Pitbull Cruz or Tank Davis at this stage, maybe sooner they will fight either of the two in the price is right.

Well done for Teo, it's a unanimous win for him. So next fight for Teo, who would it be? Any rumors after the fight?

Bob Arum mentioned that Brian Norman Jr. could be next. Even though Norman is technically a world champion he does not have much experience. On paper he has a good record and decent punching power. It could be a good test for Teo who would be moving up in weight. His poor defense and lack of power in higher weights is going to be a problem at welterweight. Norman is coming off a highlight reel knockout and won’t give up his title easily in his first defense.

Brian Norman is not well known, although he is the interim WBO champion, so doesn't make sense for Lopez to face him next, although we all know how Bob Arum moves with this kind of fights as he wanted more exposure for Lopez but with less risk. But he will not gain anything in fighting Norman Jr as he only held interim, and again, having a regular WBO champion in Terrence Crawford.

And for those who are not aware of, Norman Jr is campaigning welterweight and so it means that Teo might go up in weight as he has been calling Terrence Crawford as well after he won against Claggett. Obviously, it's the huge money that he is going to get that's why he is looking for Crawford next or Norman Jr and so if he beats him, he will be the interim and should face the regular champion in Crawford.

I'm surprised how Claggett continues to keep charging lol and Teo also kept backing away and by the looks, Claggett is smaller. It's odd already that they give Teo this kind of fighter for a tune-up but it seems to expose Teo that he isn't comfortable with the constant pressure of this kind of slugger. He showed his footwork and also he absorbed the punches though but if Claggett is bigger, the tide could change.

It just shows Teo is not ready to fight someone like Tank. He has no chance.

Right, pressure fighter like Claggett might be a big issue for Teo in the future. The likes of let's say Pitbull Cruz who always charge and then have a good chin, might be a big problem for the Takeover, but he said that he is willing to face Pitbull Cruz so that will be another interesting rematch. I will also like to agree about the ring rust, it could have affected Teo as well as he his out of the ring for sometime and his tune up fight is against a very game pressure fighter in Claggett. It's like a phone booth fight, as Teo prefer to be just in the corner and contented to counter Claggett all night but he was also caught from time to time. The only issue with Claggett is that he didn't have the power, although we can say that as well with Teo as he can't knockout anyone at 140 lbs.

Regardless, a win is a win for him.

Thanks, Claggett though is a tough costumer here, a volume puncher but he has no power. But Teo Lopez looks very uncomfortable in this fight and just wanting to fight in the corner and not in the middle, so it's weird strategy for him.

Are we going to see a upset here? Hard to score the fights as it based on Lopez few punches but with power and just countering, but Claggett is the more aggressive and throwing a lot of punches. Lopez eye is swelling, it means that he is getting in Lopez with that volume.

So let's see if Lopez can pull through in the last next of the fight. He needs to show something here, otherwise another lackluster performance and not impressively.

Claggett kept coming forward and made Teo look bad, but he did not win many rounds. Claggett looked more like a sparring partner, rather than a world champion contender. Coming in with seven losses on his record, we expected that Teo would dominate but it was yet another underwhelming performance.

I'm must surprised by the score though, I thought that Claggett did more early and could have at least score some more round. Yeah, it looks like a sparring match for Teo but Claggett keeps on coming forward to him and even though there are times that Claggett looks hurt, Teo can't finished him out.

At 140 lbs Teo does not have the devastating knockout power that defined the early part of his career. He is also not the greatest technician so he will likely continue to struggle against these types of opponents. He needs to fight somebody like Haney or Ryan Garcia to bring out the best in him, but unfortunately those fighters’ careers are currently in limbo.

I do agree with this, he doesn't have the power that he had at 135 lbs, although he still have that speed, but the impact on his opponents are not the same anymore. Enjoy and good luck on your bet, i have backed Teo Lopez to win by knockout tonight so let us see if he will deliver an impressive win tonight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlMZ-MfBuO0

There you have it. He failed. We lost. LOL! I went for under 10.5. That had a 2.00 boosted odds, good enough. But, again, I wasn't confident with that bet. Teofimo via UD at 2.45 was more interesting. If only I had some funds left in my other betting account where that market is available.

Claggett was a tough man to even knock down. Apart from that, Teofimo is rusty. He's not his old hungry and confident self anymore whose primary goal is to put his opponent to sleep. Today, only his blabbering mouth remains confident and hungry.

Ring rust might be the factor on why he did not deliver an impressive win (knockout win hehe) but there might be this speculation on some that he lost some of his power in this 140lbs division. Claggett is tailored fit for him to look good in the ring as Claggett is an aggressive fighter as we saw but he didn't been hurt though he lost but somehow it was a good fight for him.

In the post fight interview, Lopez didn't mentioned any names as his future opponents but i wish that Tank Davis would be consider as that would be a blockbuster fight and an acid test for both fighters.
I will go with the latter, it looks like Teo didn't bring his power from 135 lbs to the 140 lbs that's why he can't knockout or score a knockdown against a very average boxer in Claggett. Yeah, it's too that Claggett style is made for Teo, but Lopez started very slow and Claggett took the control in the first 6 rounds of the fight. But in the second half and as what his father tells him, push Claggett in the middle and that's where Teo has that good round from round 7-8 and I thought that Claggett will go down. He says post fight from want I'm seen in Youtube that he want's Pitbull Cruz and then Crawford  Grin at 147 lbs.

           -     I'm not familiar with these boxers, but I can tell if they can be considered rookies. They are equally agile, for sure, when it comes to the ring. I will also have a little trouble with their abilities because they both have hidden skills that, if they get through, they can immediately knock out any of them.

And then it will be an advantage for both of them because they will both get good records in this fight, which will add reputation to their boxing careers.

I like how Teo handle the fight, he didn't rush things and try to go for a KO although he is capable of doing it. He keep his defense and punished Claggett everytime he makes mistake by being overly aggressive. That was a mismatch and I agree that it looks like a sparring match up for Teo as Claggett could not even land a solid punch that could change the momentum of Teo.

Well done for Teo, it's a unanimous win for him. So next fight for Teo, who would it be? Any rumors after the fight?

Yes, I agree Teofimo shows incredible ring generalship, great foot movement, and accurate angle to deliver his best punches; this is the best Teofimo after the Taylor fight, Clagget came to fight, he did not back off in the early rounds of the fight he keeps moving forward, but on the late rounds, Teofimo lives up to his name as the Takeover and takes over the fight.

I hope Teofimo's next fight is against a fighter who is worthy of his level, I think a fight against newly crowned Lian Paro is a good match both are good technicians in the ring, but a deal with Pitbull Cruz is also worth it.
The Super Lightweight should have one champion and unification is going to be a blockbuster for promoters.

We will see how their capabilities works, there's a lot of reviews at youtube and social media platforms once you follow their channels.
Several sports enthusiasts give their opinions and different thoughts, odds will base on those aspects but we have to be careful on that because the reliability won't match in the reality of the actual fight. If you trust you best choice of fighters then the odds always got the big catch.

For those who might have missed the weigh-in, here is the video, both make it to the limit,

Teofimo Lopez 139.4 lbs. vs. Steve Claggett 139.5 lbs.

So let's see if Claggett is supposedly easy fight for Teo, or Steve will bring everything in the table and make it very difficult for Lopez. But I'm seeing that Teo Lopez is too good and might score a early knockout win.

Claggett though might be a good test for Teo, he has been out for quite sometime and so a light workout might do good for him in the future fight. So best of luck to those who are going to bet the under rounds, it is still at 1.8x if I'm not mistaken, so very appealing, but for me I will skip and just watch this fight unfolds.

Team Lopez has chose Claggett because he is an aggressive type which is a good fit to Teo's boxing style. This fight is for Teo to look good and if successful on this fight then i think Top Rank will give him an opponent which is ranked in the top 5.

Though i have not put my bet yet but most probably i will go for under 10.5 @1.8x or go directly to Lopez via knockout @1.7x.

Make sense for a possible knockout win by Teo as well, and at 1.7, that is big already. I haven't seen highlights of Claggett, but if he is that aggressive then Lopez will bring the his best version as he always does for boxers who wants to test him.

So let's see, as I have said, I will just skip this one mate, but definitely I wanted Lopez to win so that he can challenge other champions and with Haney out and Matias upset by Paro, I think it's obvious that Teo is the man to beat at 140 lbs as he is the lineal and the best amongst the champion right now.

3 days before the fight , the votes favoring Lopez completely so i assume that Lopez will win this fight even without a knockout .

Claggett has 7 losses already so Teofimo should be able to beat him. Not sure if Teofimo can win by knockout because Claggett was only stopped once in his 7 losses and that indicates that he is tough. But the skills, Teofimo is highly favored.

But still, I am want an upset for the heavy underdog. Claggett is 11-1-9 KOs in his last 12 fights. Maybe he can hurt Teo and change the momentum of the fight. I voted for Claggett by knockout because there is no such thing as zero percent chance in this sport. Cheesy

I haven't placed my bet yet as well, but I might also go for under 10.5. I'm not too confident of this bet, though. I know Teofimo has power in his punches but he hasn't shown that in his past fights since Campa. Although this is different this time around since Claggett is probably not in Ortiz's or Taylor's caliber, but Claggett deserves this. He has fairly and squarely made his way into this title fight. He's been on a nice winning streak.

Teofimo via UD at 2.45 is a nice option as well. Claggett is old but he might survive a little rusty Lopez.

Not so attractive so I'd just bet on the KO odds as shared by bisdak. Imagine betting $1100 to win $100, that's crazy, I can't risk with that kind of odds although everyone believed that Lopez are gonna win this fight, but you know, upset happened in boxing anytime.

I like the over/under as well, maybe I'm taking the under 10.5. (tailing with bisdak here).
If this is the odds? maybe I will pass betting because the interest and the excitement seems to be gone when this kind of fight .

and besides the match up is mismatch for me but lets see what can Claggett give in this bout .

Yeah, Claggett is 6:1 underdog in this fight and maybe some of us here are going to skip on betting this fight as there are no value although there is one in the over and under 10.5 rounds. But for boxing fans, we are seeing Teo going to win this fight and will not go to the judges to score the fight.

Fight week for this Teofimo Lopez vs Steve Claggett fight.

There is not much option to bet on this fight but per recommendation of some users, "under 10.5 @1.86" is a good bet as Steve Claggett has not face a fighter in his entire career with a caliber like Teo Lopez. Claggett is an aggressive type which fit the style of Lopez so i think he won't last the full 12 rounds.

His last 3 fights went to decision, so it's quite risky. But I agree with you, since Claggett is aggressive then there's a possibility that the fight will end in KO. Teofimo is very aggressive as well, if his opponent would dance with the same music, then your bet will likely hit. Good luck mate, I guess I would just bet on Lopez to win by KO, you have an idea what's the odds for that?

As of this writing, if you bet for Lopez to win via knock-out, the odds for that is @1.74.

Though a little bit low but for me that is still a attractive odds.

Claggett is an aggressive type which fit the style of Lopez so i think he won't last the full 12 rounds.
Steve Claggett in his last fight in January against Marcos Gonzalez Barraza showed how great he was and how aggressive he was in the boxing ring Steve Claggett won in just two rounds.
In the upcoming fight in few days time, maybe we can see how Steve Claggett shows ferocity in every punch he throws, but on the other hand, Teofimo Lopez is also not an easy fighter to beat.
Teofimo Lopez is much younger and he has pretty good record because in 21 fights he has only suffered one defeat, there will be tough fight later and I sure it can be much better than Steve Claggett fight against Marcos Gonzalez Barraza.

Teofimo Lopez and Steve Claggett both have quite high knockout ratios and are almost equal, anyone would also believe that they would not fight the full 12 rounds because the finish would definitely end in knockout.
I myself tend to be more interested in making Teofimo Lopez the favorite and maybe he will actually get the win even though Steve Claggett is an aggressive boxer and has lot of experience.

Hopefully, after this fight, Teofimo will go for unification fights once again. I wonder if Haney and Pitbull Cruz are willing or if their promoters are willing to risk. I can only feel IBF champ, Subriel Matias as the most willing to unify with any of the champions because he has the lowest fanbase among them.

Maybe Pitbull Cruz is willing to fight Teo but I don't think Haney will after that humiliating loss to Ryan Garcia. Teo Lopez is a power puncher just like Ryan Garcia so Haney's team will try its best to avoid those kinds of fighters as long as possible.

It's the other way around, Teo or at least his father is looking for Pitbull Cruz for their next fight, unfortunately they settled for Claggett and again as we have said, this is a tune up fight for maybe Cruz in the future,

Teofimo Lopez Sr. says he wants his son, WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Jr., to face the winner of the March 30th fight between WBA champ Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.

Haney needs to come back with an impressive win, so he should not directly fight a champion and instead try to build his confidence once again. If he chooses to fight Teo, he has the edge since Teo is not as tall as Ryan. Haney can use his length since he prefers to run and beat his opponent on the scorecard. Also, Teo lost to a slower Kambosos Jr. (who probably retired after losing to Loma), so I see that speed is a big advantage for Haney. However, in terms of power, I give Teo the edge.

I keep hearing Claggett's name over the years. He was a hot prospect before but I wonder if he is really a world championship fighter. This is his first title shot and he is fighting the division's lineal champ. Lately, a lot of upsets happened, and Teofimo is inconsistent with his performances so who knows another upset is coming.

Teofimo should be able to score a knockout here. This seems like a showcase fight for Teofimo. I usually root for the underdogs so I am hoping once again  that a new lineal champ will be crowned next month.

Same here, hoping that the ref will raise the hand of the new lineal champ but it seems that judges love Teofimo Lopez. Teo needs a knockout win here as to reassert himself in this division and intimidate his future opponents just like what happen when they fought Lomachenco.

For Claggett, he has already 7 losses and should take this fight seriously as a win would make him a household name and thanks Teo for giving this fight to him.

This is the biggest fight fo his career, for sure he'll do the best training to have the best stamina in the fight. I agree with @inthelongrun , Teofimo is incositent sometimes, probably because he is too cocky and underestimated his opponent so he loss his focus at times. Anyway, some say it's just a cherry picked fight for Teofimo, but let's see if that is true, I'm hoping that Claggett will deliver a great fight, it doesn't matter if he loss as long as he is not just fighting for the money and just to survive.

It looks like a cherry pick because Claggett has 7 losses already. But he is actually 11-1-9 KOs in his last 12 fights. He was beating guys that have decent records. So this guy cannot be underestimated as his overall record is misleading. The good thing about Claggett is he is also capable of hurting and stopping opponents, so Teofimo has to defend himself as well from getting hit by those power shots.

Hopefully, after this fight, Teofimo will go for unification fights once again. I wonder if Haney and Pitbull Cruz are willing or if their promoters are willing to risk. If the money is right then we can have Haney vs Pitbull Cruz. But so far we haven't heard anything from Haney's camp yet after that lost against Ryan Garcia and it seems that they are hell bent of having that lost be a NC because of Ryan's positive test. But there are still a lot of drama there as his lawyers are fighting it out that Ryan takes contaminated supplement.

I do agree with Subriel Matias case, he is the odd man out and so if he wanted to get the fame, then he should be the one calling this champion. However, he should understand that despite being a belt holder, he could be the B-side against any of this champions.

You can bet on Claggett to win and enjoy a x7 return of your bet if you have a feeling that it will be an upset. But as we can see on the odds, it tells us that this is just a cherry picked fight by Teo.

Its zero chance that I'm going to do that Teofimo should be at his worst if this guy upsets Teofimo, upsets do happen in a fight but the discrepancy in power and skill is just too wide for me to think that Clagget has a chance.

This is the reason why Teofimo is not attractive in the PPV he is putting his level down to face a fighter like Clagget.

If a boxer attains popularity he should sustain it by fighting top-level fighters or mandatory opponents or one that can attract sales, he defeated Josh Taylor he should sustain it by trying to get the top 3 boxers in his division, not someone out of that ranking.
What exactly he will get from this fight?

Right, it's really hard to see how Claggett will win here, unless Teo didn't prepare that hard in this fight and then go on a party before, similar to what Tyson did when he fought and lost the fight to Buster Douglas as later he reveal that the didn't train that hard and underestimate Douglas that time.

Teo is being manage by his Father, so 24x7 he is being monitored and see if he really trains and prepare on this fight very hard. So for sure Teo wanted to keep his title as he is the man at 140 lbs, the lineal champion and this is considered a get busy fight, meaning if he wins here, bigger fight awaits him in the future.

I keep hearing Claggett's name over the years. He was a hot prospect before but I wonder if he is really a world championship fighter. This is his first title shot and he is fighting the division's lineal champ. Lately, a lot of upsets happened, and Teofimo is inconsistent with his performances so who knows another upset is coming.

Teofimo should be able to score a knockout here. This seems like a showcase fight for Teofimo. I usually root for the underdogs so I am hoping once again  that a new lineal champ will be crowned next month.

It could be but the upset that we have seen lately, it looks like the odds are very close. Nevertheless, I do agree that sometimes Teo's performance is unexpected, he will far bad against a fighter that has no name, but then show us something big that he is a elite fighter by beating big names like Josh Taylor and become the lineal champion.

So let's see what Claggett can offer here, he might give Lopez a good fight in the early rounds. But I don't think that Teo will take him lightly, his belt is on the line here. He doesn't want to lose his belt against a unknown boxer and then chase him for a rematch.

Odd are not close actually, if Claggett will win, it will be a big upset.

Let me play devil's advocate here, but what if Claggett upset Teo Lopez here? We all know that upsets do happen in boxing, and them thinking that they could get away by picking a non household name to win and make Teo looks good? It might back fire on them big time.
There's always a rematch clause, so Teo will take the fight seriously and take back the title but Steve will have shortlived glory and make a lot of money in return, but his bargaining power in big fights will be weak, he cannot expect a big paycheck if he faces the likes of Tank or Matias, when you are a big name in boxing every fight matters.

Or another scenario is that it's a close fight, up to the judges to score the fight and fortunately they give it to Lopez. But fight fans knows that Lopez lost that fight. So that's the problem with tune-up fight though, as the opponent has nothing to lose and will give everything he got and might pull an upset.
That again will weaken his bargaining power and his status as well, Lopez should take this fight seriously it looks easy but the stake is high if the situation is not in his favor, I hope after this, Teo will stop doing cherry pick fights he should establish his legacy and it should be continuous.

The only advantage s Steve Claggett has here is his experience in boxing as he has 38 fights but his loss record is bad with 7. I agree with ya all that this is just a cherry pick fight for him, and most of the time when a boxer cherry pick and opponent,  we know it's equivalent to an easy win. However,  let's just see what they can offer, hopefully this one is an entertaining fight and maybe Lopez is just gearing for another big fight after this.

This site has an odds of the fight, i'm not sure if it's accurate though.

Teo has had some recent fight where he looked bad when he faced unknown fighters. He was written off for a while but did have a brilliant fight against Josh Taylor. He needs another performance like that if he wants to build more hype for his career. Matias and Haney could be big fights for him, but he will have to prove that he is worth the high purses he is demanding by winning spectacularly. This is an opponent he is meant to look good against. Hopefully he won’t stink up the place like he did against Jamaine Ortiz.

That's right, when the stakes are high Teo Lopez perform above the usual, like in his fight against Loma and then his performance against Josh Taylor. A former unified champion that he dominated and thanks his belt and become the lineal champion.

But if his opponents is just another regular, hopefully we can get away from that energy of also showing us a mediocre performance like what you have mentioned, against Ortiz. However, I'm seeing him at 140 lbs weight class that he can dominate if he really put his heart here.

Teo already fought some big names, he doesn't really need this tune-up anymore since he can fight.  They love Teo so much, they just want him more wins maybe they are grooming for Matias?

Steve is not on his level but Steve will be more than happy to get a shot at Teo and if this fight is going to result in an upset, a lot will really be laughing at Teo. That's for sure. I look up Steve on youtube, he can actually KO opponents and knows how to entertain the crowd.

Subriel Matias will be a big fight for Teo, and if I'm not mistaken, Matias is calling him out as well. He will be facing another tough contender in Paro though so we will have to wait and see. And as what others said, it's obvious that they are preparing Teo Lopez for a big fight in the future. And so they pick Steve Claggett to get him ready whoever it is, could be Haney or Matias in the future. Of course, anyone who has a shot against the champion will take it any day, any time as they know that this is a one time opportunity for them and the exposure and the money that he can earn facing Teo should be his highest paycheck.

But hey OP, I hope you don't mean to say it was going to be a stage or fixed fight for saying the match is to make Lopez look good since he has not made it in couple of his matches now? Otherwise... While Steve has also been active in the ring all these while, he may have also gathered some skills to defeat Lopez but let us watch out. It is a game that one must win and other looses.

Don't get me wrong but i think this fight is for Teo Lopez to win and look good in the process. Got nothing against Steve Claggett but he is just another not so complicated fight for Lopez basing on the level of opponents that he he fought. The guy has seven losses in 47 fight and in boxing 34 years old is not that young anymore. All the factors to lose are on Claggett's side. We knew that there is upset in this sport but this time i do think that chance is very slim.

This is just clearly a tune-up fight for Lopez, poor Claggett is now just a human-punching bag against Lopez because he doesn't have enough speed and power to counter him. In this one, I don't believe in any special skills that will gonna develop in him during his training because he is just nothing compared to Lopez and surely they just accept this fight for the money and also a slight chance to win it if he can land a lucky punch. after all, you won't know what the result of the fight is until you finally see it with your own eyes, and as we speculate, both boxers are training hard but we just don't expect much on Claggett.

Yeah Lopez has been a great fighter doing well at some times and despites his odds I don't still find him a weak.
I still can not believe he has been absent from the ring all these while basically going for parties and crossing his legs watching TV at home. Lol.
Let us just assume he has been out there cooking some stuffs to rebounce back on stage.

I agree Teo already is the man for beating a once pound-for-pound king in Lomachencko so why is this guy not even a mandatory challenger if this is a tune fight, does Teo need a tune fight with his status I don't think so what if he gets upset, Claggett of course will be thankful, this is a title shot.
His chances are not good, but what if the unlikely happens? Teo will end up the laughing stock some worthy opponents will give Teo a much-needed boost but decide not to take it.

Teofimo Lopez needs a fighter like Clagget to make him look good all his past three wins comes from decision compared to other champions with the exception of Haney who scored knockout on their last fights, his team felt that he is not an exciting fighter to watch anymore because he failed to scored knockouts compared to other champions like Pitbull Cruz and Subriel Matias.

With this fight they want to secure a knockout and Claggett style is very much suited to Teofimo, Teofimo doesn't like fighters who runs on the fight and Claggett is not, unless Claggett changed his style and decides to run and not engage. Cheesy

Lol, but what a cherry pick fight for Teo Lopez here. Claggett was not even in the top 10 rankings if you're going to look at the WBO rankings. So another get busy fight for Teo, or maybe he is just fine tuning his skills and could be looking for bigger fight at the end of the year.

Him and Matias could be a banger of a fight. But I guess Top Rank wanted in-house money in this one or at least Teo getting the lion share and to satisfy him of having millions in his every fight. But for sure this is going to bomb as he is fighting nobody here.

And let the criticism comes, hehehe.

I agree that Clagget is a cherry-picked fight and will not offer a resistance against Teofimo, saw the highlight of his fights and I like his being pressured fighter always moving forward, always tried to land his best punches but with Tefimo's caliber and skill in the ring I don't think he can do what he has done to his past opponents.

It will be interesting if he will still become a pressure fighter when they face each other because Teofimo is someone who loves to slug it out, one thing I notice about Clagget his punches are telepathic so Teofimo will not have a hard time doing a counter punch against Clagget.

Teofimo's team  picked the right guy to make him look good, nothing much to expect from a guy who has 7 losses.

Teofimo "The Take-over" Lopez will be back in the ring this coming June 29 against a 34 years old Steve Claggett. I don't know if the latter has what it takes to defeat Lopez but i think this fight is to make Lopez looks good in the ring as he didn't do well on his last few fights.

No initial odds yet for this fight but will update this thread once bookies has it already.
