Looks nearly like my story.

I started in September 2013 when a friend gave me 0.1 BTC as a birthday present. At that time 0.1 btc wasn't much worth, but it woke up my interest in the bitcoin world. Now i'm trading as much as possible and invest in crypto currencies.

Let's all hope that we will do the right thing.

Hi everyone!

I am a brand new user to this forum although I have been lurking for awhile.  The first time I heard about bitcoin was probably sometime around when Gawker first published the story about The Silk Road in June of 2011.  It may have been a little before, but I think that was the first time I realized that Bitcoin could be used in real world transactions that obviously had advantages over cash or credit.

Fast forward a couple years later.  I started looking at bitcoin again after seeing a few articles pop up about booms and busts, what happened with Cyprus, and *almost* bought some in April when it was maybe like $120.  It dropped maybe $20 before I could meet my buyer over localbitcoins and thought that it was too volatile (haha!  *sigh*)  so I ended up not buying.  That was dumb.

Finally, I started hearing about it again in the news in early November, and wanted to get some but couldn't find out  an easy way to acquire bitcoins. I didn't know about Coinbase back then (and I wish I did since that is my preferred way of doing it) and had to go jump through hoops depositing cash into bank accounts and taking pictures of banks receipts, etc.  I also didn't know how fast it would rise because I waited a weekend taking my sweet time and it went from around $400 (when I decided I wanted to get some since I didn't buy at $100) to over $600 in a single weekend.  I really wish I had just jumped on it much earlier instead of going "I'll figure out how to buy some on Monday.

That was all right before the Senate hearing with FinCEN which we all knew what that did to the price. I rode the china fever and gained more and more confidence in bitcoin and converted more USD into BTC (or XBT) and of course I got caught in the huge crash.  I guess I should have just held, but decided to explore alternative crypto currencies around this time.

Since then, I've been reading up as much as I can on Bitcoin and Crypto in general and find it really fascinating and world changing.  I've seen a ton of videos by Andreas Antonopoulos, the Khan Academy videos on how bitcoin works, read the original whitepaper, perused through a ton of articles on Forbes, Business Insider, etc, spent a lot of time reading the discussions on reddit and linked articles, and finally realized that the center of the crypto universe is on this forum.

I feel really knowledgable in Crypto now, but seeing as  I just registered and this is just my second post under my belt, I realize that most people on this board probably blow my knowledge out of the water.  So of course, I want to surround myself with people who are more knowledgable than I am and hopefully I can make some amazing contributions to this community.  Of course, I am aware of the damage big banking has caused, the failure of the federal reserve, and debt as slavery, so I think the idea of retaining our wealth in a decentralized currency that we have control over outside the control of quantitative easing, infinite inflation, etc. is really interesting.

I will say that Coinbase made things really easy to get started even if it was connected to my bank and of course KNC and AML goes against some of the initial founding principles of bitcoin, but I like that it *can* be used as cash if need be.  It seems like now is just a race to make things crypto currency more easily available, easy to use, easy to understand, accepted as valid form of payment, as a payment network that outperforms credit cards and money transfer services, etc.

It is exciting to live in these times.

By day, I am a web project manager and I also have some graphic design and light development skills.  I am also an event organizer and dance music producer.  Hopefully my talents can come in handy somewhere :-)
