Worst case scenario, amazon won't implement bitcoin this year.

But eventually when bitcoin does go mainstream they will be pressured to. Otherwise they'd be losing out on so much profit that could otherwise be made from bitcoin. The points raised in that article are somewhat disagreeable - just because bitcoin fluctuates doesn't mean amazon can't accept bitcoin. They accept foreign currencies without issue, why not bitcoin? There are services that will instantly convert btc to fiat even, if that's what they want.

There is no need to worry if amazon, won't accept bitcoin,  there are other ways wherein you can transact with amazon, but the thing is, most of us here also knows the type of situation amazon will be in, since bitcoin is volatile, there might be a chance that they may profit from suggesting a bitcoin price and they may also loose. In this case, i think as bitcoiners we should also be responsible for our acts and be wise enough to understand theur situation, since we can easily just create a site like amazon, wherein, bitcoin is the only means of transactions, still with this news, there is no need to panic, since more and more sites, will eventually be accepting bitcoin in the near future, if not, i guess their own crypto coins as a group of company perhaps, but still it will be needed to be converted to be bitcoin if they want to have it on fiat. I think we should just respect amazon's decision and show them who is the bigger man.

who need amazon? i never buy in amazon :v never!!!
I think amazon will regret not using bitcoin as one of the payment method, their income will decrease .. because I think many bitcoin users pay with bitcoin, so when they do not use bitcoin, they will lose. Just look at it later

It was too good to be true... Anyway, if the guy with the fake news had some bitcoins, he could gain some profit on the price as well. OK that the main motivation was the quick and high traffic to get more AD revenue, but it was really misleading for the rest of us...

Its absolutely clear that article guy is aiming for free traffic and publicity, good work op for bringing it to the notice, but I don't think Amazon will accept bitcoins anytime soon, for many reasons it's yet to be a regocnized currency. Plus who will take the headache of conversion and all, and if they do the authorities will swoop on them, so no I don't think they will do.

The news that Amazon will be accepting bitcoin was BS anyway. There weren't any sources to back the headlines up. I'm not sure if I would call it "news" anyway, it was barely "news", it was just an opinion or a prediction of a person; it was something along the lines of, non-verbatim: "a lot of companies/organizations are starting to accept bitcoin, so Amazon should/might do the same in the future". Though I'm still optimistic that they would directly accept bitcoin in the future, so we wouldn't need to buy from Amazon using bitcoin through Purse.io anymore.

P.S. Article is not so good. There are lots of better articles with the same topic than the link OP posted:

No big surprise there. I don't think that Amazon needs to accept Bitcoin, as they are already having a user base numbering in billions (and growing at a rapid pace). They don't need to accept any payment medium, just to gain a few hundred or thousand users.

Sweet debunking.

debunking! you must be kidding me Smiley
it is the same old click-bait strategy of all these random unknown "news" sites that they try to get a hot subject and put a title on it and write some nonsense in the body and call it news.
the author of the article does not even understand how merchants accept bitcoin in a way that the volatility does not even affect them.

the funny part of it is that the article is saying the same "maybe"s like anyone else.

This article seems poorly written. But the facts of the matter are that if Amazon were to adopt Bitcoin as a payment method it would completely change the perspective of the currency and likely 2x, maybe 3x the price instantly

It seems unlikely that they would anytime soon with the media scrutiny and the unstable prices. I wouldn't get my hopes up for Amazon (or Uber) accepting Bitcoin until it gets regulated. Until then, most businesses will have their panties in a bunch fearing regulators and volatility.

I looked at that article with a skeptical, half closed eye.  Too bad, though.  They could have
had a winner there.  Does it cost companies anything to use BitPay or whatever payment
processor exists to convert bitcoin--->fiat?  I can't imagine it's more expensive than
processing credit cards, and they could potentially have expanded their customer base.
It's not the end of the world, and perhaps in time Amazon will come around.

It seems that member's of the community are quick to grab onto any news article that seems positive, regardless of how realistic it may be. While I do think a time will come when all the major retailers accept some form of crypto, it makes the community look silly when stories like these gain so much traction.

Lol...I'm amazed the original article gained any traction at all. It had zero support for the claim and pretty clearly said it was pure speculation. Plus, anyone who really spends 5 minutes thinking about it should come to the conclusion that it just wouldn't make sense for Amazon to start accepting Bitcoin any time soon.

While I understand that many people are really pushing for Amazon to consider Bitcoin as possible mode of payment, making a fake news about it would be not doing good to Bitcoin. I believe that the time will come when Amazon would finally be taking Bitcoin but we have to be patient and just wait. Right now, maybe Amazon still don't have the infrastructure in place to deal with Bitcoin's volatility since they are retailers charging not a wide margin and this margin can easily be erased in an instant when Bitcoin can go down drastically as what we witnessed the past few weeks. While we are hoping that there would be rate stability, volatility is also one big reason why there are players on the Bitcoin market right now.
