I don't get all those pro-regulations sentiments whatsoever. I mean the main point of cryptocurrencies used to be to get rid of all "trusted" third parties such as governments and central banks. Now majority of bct users actually welcome government interventions? I understand that ICOs are to blame here as well. Not because many of them are scams, but because they centralize initial money supply distribution and thus create another weak point in ecosystem.

Also, for me as an investor, there's no difference whatsoever if my investment fails due to team's inability to deliver promised product or if I lose my money due to ICO being the scam. It just changes probabilities in expected value equations => the probability of failure increases and the probability of success decreases. That means that one has to be more selective as far as his investment goes. But I'm fully capable of doing that myself, I don't need a government to do that for me or to protect me from dangers of internet or any of that jazz.

Rant over.

As a world financial centre, london/UK will have to allow space for new ideas to stay competitive, be it blockchain, insuretech etc. I think sandbox regulation will continue to the policy, so not a completely ban on ICO or cryptocurrency.

Thanks for that link. It's actually good news that they're starting to take notice of ICOs. There is no talk of banning them, they just want to clean out the scams. That can only be a positive thing as will enhance the reputation and more people will feel safe investing in the knowledge that there is a little less risk involved.

I would appreciate ICO regulations in crypto, but I don't want it to come from government QED

All national authorities will eventually take similar steps. However, I don't think that they (even the Chinese ones) want to ban ICOs or cryptocurrencies. They just need/want to create a legal framework so that everything is according to the law.
The ICO/crypto market is currently totally unregulated - it's like a "wild west" without any rules. As more and more money is flowing in, I think they just want to prevent fraud and money laundering and make sure that also the crypto businesses are legit.

I fully agree with you, ICO's right now are not regulated and anyone can make their own coins with any name they can think of.That is, their only purpose is to amass millions of dollars without any tangible project. If China is having a legal framework being studied then future investors will be protected.

There is no point in trying to ban ICOs or even cryptocurrencies for that matter. It is here to stay, the ICOs are new ways of crowdfunding projects nowadays. What it does require though is an actual legal framework instead.

There is no doubt regulations are on the way. The reality is that it will benefit crypto in the long run. The real price spikes will happen when the big boys get in, and they will be hesitant to do that until some regulations are in place.

agree with you, the government will consider more things than the development of blockchain technology, the financial stability and social security are more important, and its the same to all governments more than China
