@Vampire, is that the joke? That is also quite lame as any bridge can become a toll bridge.

Thanks Buryfarmer, although the Brooklyn bridge of Wikipedia is inconsistent with that.

In the past I have frequently seen people referring they have a toll bridge for sale in Brooklyn. I thought this was a (slightly lame and unimaginative) Bitcoin meme of some sort.

Recently it came to my attention this is actually a North American popular cultural reference. It is also mentioned in the Wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooklyn_Bridge . However, I don't understand, what is inherently stupid about investing in a toll bridge in Brooklyn if the price is low enough?

Is the 'joke' merely that people that claim to want to sell the bridge don't actually own it? If that's right I don't understand why the story is so popular.

There are no toll bridges in Brooklyn.

An American once bought London Bridge but believe he was buying the much grander Tower bridge.

It was shipped to Arizona in the US and rebuilt in a desert.

Why? Dunno seems crazy to me.

Are you familiar with the old saying, "I have some swampland in Florida to sell to you"? It's the same thing.

No, I am not.

I would respond that the Everglades are nice but I am not interested in owning them Wink
