well you're entitled to your opinion.

And of course demand is going to make the price go up,
thats how supply and demand generally work.  Wink

But if we apply your logic broadly, the implication would be that
no one should invest in anything for the sole purpose of making a profit.

What you consider a "worthless" domain isn't worthless to the
right buyer.

if we apply your logic to bitcoin, no one should be holding
coins simply to profit. what's the difference?

Obviously not. I'm using him as an example of how this greasy ass business drives up domain prices for everyone in the long run. If you think you have something proprietary, or are a genius, you're not.  Anyone can buy a domain from godaddy for 9.99 relist it for 10k and pray.  All i am pointing out, is it is these actions that rise prices or something that was once affordable.  This guy is buying domains, raising the prices out of reach for small businesses and entreprenuers and once in a while getting lucky with a business who's got the budget for it. The last thing bitcoin needs is raised barriers to entry for someone considering to start a service that could benefit the community.  Illegal no. Fuckin greasy as hell, yes.  But in hindsight,  this community seems to be about the easiest ways to make money, not the technology anyhow.

That's how the whole domain industry works.

Domains are a scare resource.

You're complaining about rising prices
but that's supply and demand.

Buying them and hoarding them in hopes of reselling
them at a profit is part of the free market dynamics.

I see nothing greasy about it.

You want small businesses to get a free ride with
a premium name while paying only a small fee?

How would that be fair to the other small businesses
in the same space?  How would that even work?

When did we start referring to premium domains specifically? In your message....... It's obvious that bitcoin.com should probably cost a little more than bitcoinnichmarketeconmonics.com.

FAR from premium. This is one person, buying as many domains as they can and driving the price up.  You can call it what you want, won't change my mind that i think domain squatting on 00's of random anything domains for the sole purpose of price gouging is bullshit. It drives up the price of domains as a whole and you can't say that it doesn't. Nobody said it was illegal, and nobody said everything legal isn't greasy.  You can paint it any color you want or look at it from whatever angle you desire won't change my opinion that sitting on a domain with no intent but to mark it up a fuck load is greasy. Greasy. Greasy.

y'all are thinking wrong...

What did the name ebay have to do with auctions? What did amazon have to do with selling? What did uber have to do with taxis? and for that matter wtf did "mtgox" have to do with bitcoins?

ain't the domain, it's the product, have an actual product, any domain will do.

Domains vs real estate is a good analogy.  In both cases, you need the right buyer for the right property and you may be waiting a long time for that right buyer.

Domain squatting companies often hold domains for years and years and years and never sell them (or sell them at a loss).  The small percentage of domains they do sell, go for a huge price to someone who really wants that particular name, and these sales offset the registration fees of the hundreds or thousands of domains that nobody ever wants.

If the domain name is "hot" enough, like bitcoin.com or something, there is obviously a huge demand, and it will go for a huge price.  there is no chance you won't have tons of interested buyers.  it's like selling a luxury apartment in uptown Manhattan.

If the domain is obscure, it's like trying to sell a dilapidated crack house in Detroit.  No one really wants it, and you'd still have to pay the taxes on it.  (registration fees in case of domains) You can't give it away.

IMO, Bitcoin is still too young for those foreign keyword domains to be worth speculating on.

bad luck to the domain squatter.. as i really do smell the same style of domain selling as sol adoni done with the bitcoin.com

and lastly if the squatter wants a legit estimate, there are many proper domain auction sites available,

Been browsing Bitcoin domains for something decent all morning for a handful of sites that are actullay functoning. No shit EVERY decent bitcoin domain is 50,000. These kind of people make me puke. DOT CA it is.  Roll Eyes

Scam.
I hate domain keeper.
In my country, they loose (at the tribunal) the domain name if an industrie make profit on the same name ... and if the scammer don't.

Wow didn't mean to set off a firestorm. Got my question answered. That's all I really wanted. Thanks!
