Don't buy from butterfly labs!

They almost never keep their delivery time promise (google it for yourself).

On their website, it says (in Order Terms)
Quote
Bitforce SC (ASIC) products are shipped according to placement in the order queue, and delivery may take 2 months or more after order.

So by the time you get your hardware, 50 GH/s will be worthless.

You'll mine about 0.5 btc in total (as in, in a year although most will be mined in the first few months).

To answer your other question, you would just need a regular PC.
On their website, they have programs, drivers, etc and everything you need to start mining.

Well, if you were to invest about $900 as you said (20 of the $45 ASIC USBs)

then you would get about 13 GH/s in cex.io with the current pricing (compared to the 6.7 GH/s you would have gotten with the USBs)

so with the current difficulty, you'll get 0.32 BTC in the first month.

Because of the ever increasing difficulty, the amount you get per month will decrease.

However, the good thing about cex.io is that you can sell those GH/s whenever you wish so you can get part of your money back (I say a part because the prices lower with the increasing difficulty).

Or of course, you can buy more GH/s with the BTC you mined.

If you are willing to invest that much money, try cloud mining

It's so much cheaper and you don't have to take care of the mining devices

Check it out

That site is way to expensive

Either buy really large (but expensive) mining rigs that have a way smaller USD to GHS ratio

or buy some bitcoins and sell it later

I would not buy those ASIC USBs

$145 for each 0.33GH miner? Yow.

I paid $650 for my 30GH miner and it barely mined a whole coin in the month I've had it. Thankfully, I paid in dollars and not bitcoins. If I can mine another coin within the next 2 months I'll consider myself lucky.

Buying 1st gen ASICs now would be foolish. If you can get some 22nm ASICs with less than 6 months delivery time, and pay fiat for them, go for it. Just don't expect big returns on a few hundred GH when terahash miners are the norm.

The network is already over 5 petahashes and growing at a phenomenal rate. When I got my ASICs, it was at 2.8PH, and that was only a month ago.
