What is covered under this word "rebranding" actually? To me it means a way to run away from problems and debs of previous activity. And this all hidden under such beautiful and perspective word "rebranding". I was following the situation with BTC-e and as I know not all founds were bring back to the users. So now they just can say that BTC-e doesn't exist anymore, so all debs also not the problem of WEX.

I must say that I didn't expect them to reopen after what happened with that Russian guy who got arrested for money laundering, I really thought they was linked to him and I see no reason why they won't be successful, they have proven to people who accused them that they are a legit service that actually cares about their clients and because of that, people may not even switch to another exchange even after what happened.
Relaunching is the relatively easy part. It's now hoping that the world police (USA) doesn't start chasing after their new platform as well ~ that would be insanely sad if happening.

I wonder what happened with their $110 million fine. I am certain that the US government will never disregard this. It's either BTC-E having paid off that fine entirely, or they managed to settle it in various batches.

That being said, BTC-E has always had a hardcore Russian based following, and they will keep making use of them no matter what. Not exactly why they are so focused on BTC-E, but it is admirable.

That directly also explains why BTC-E most of the times communicates with the outside world in Russian language, which the English-speaking users have quite frequently blamed BTC-E for.

In addition to that, I assumed that the same Russian based followers would also be the same customers that they have. Its really quite intriguing that Russia is very hardcore to BTC-E. I guess its has something to do with Alexander Vinik being a Russian?

I like the rebranding to Wex is a good move to stay away from and differentiate itself from the BTC-e scandal. They even claim that they are AML/KYC compliant as well. Let see how it goes, hope that it can really recover so at least we have a new* trading platform to chose from. Though I see it is still in the test mode currently.

Looks like they have rebranded.

https://btc-e.nz/ now redirects to https://wex.nz/

Interesting also that they have chosen New Zealand domains for their new trading engine. It remains to be seen whether they manage to make a go of their new exchange.
