I think they make a lot of money off from ads and some donations.
And I think that you're like the 10th person who has posted that in this thread.

If advertisements do break even (even better if there's a profit, but not important) with the expenses of the faucet, I'm interested in making a faucet.

Can someone help me to do this step by step?

It would be very appreciated

I have no knowledge of web hosting... :b
If you still need help with the website, try using a free server at 000webhost.com and use a free .tk domain (http://www.dot.tk).
There are also a few faucet scripts around here available for free. However, I won't find them for you! Cheesy

All the major faucets earn money (not a lot) by advertising. If it wasn't profitable they wouldn't exist. Remember, no money is 'free'.
I guess its better to play with altcoins faucets along with bitcoin faucets like dogecoin where we have hope that it will go high and high for next few months..!

I actually make more BTC than faucet expenses. I paid out 0.007 for this week. I made about 0.02 BTC from ads just for this week, with additional $16 from AdSense.

Not much. How many unique visitors you have daily? And it is increasing last weeks or stays about the same

It's increasing daily according to Google Analytics. We have 2,026 unique visitors. So about 1k every week.

How can you host a faucet? I wanna try. I'm not very good with hosting stuff.

Well first you're going to have to get a script and some hosting as well as some BTC. If you need any help with operating a faucet, I can hand you my script for a fee. You can look at the example here: freebtc.pw

How much?

I'll contact you!

You get 0.00001000 BTC from primedice for every captcha you fill out and can gamble it, but can only cash out at 0.00005000 (I think), but that isn't difficult to do.

The cash out minimum is 0.0005.

So you have to multiply it by 50 times.

Holy crap, so you mean after a days work I stand a slight chance of bringing home a whole $0.40 after the tx fee! I wonder why everyone isn't doing this  Cheesy

50x can be done in 1 hour of work. If Bitcoin price will be $100,000 / BTC, you earned $40 / hour  Smiley

I'm hoping that's sarcasm. :b

If it's not, just fyi, it doesn't take a whole day to get 1k sat to 50k.

If you withdraw 0.001 from primedice (you have to play at 100x odds to win 0.001 from 0.00001 I believe) you only receive 0.0009

Hey what does faucet mean? I'm new to BTC here. Anyone willing to help
It's a website that gives away free bitcoins. They are usually supported by advertisements.

They pay you a tiny insignificant fraction of a coin, one the protocol fights to keep from happening by making it hard to spend. They do it because they make ad revenue, but hardly anything worth messing with apparently.
Meh, i've had a few people earn a couple of mBTC from my faucet. But then again, those are people who come in many times per day.
You could buy a cheap steam game with that, or a humble bundle. But i suppose most people just took their payout to send a few coins from one wallet to another, to test it out i guess.
So like i can get btc for free there :O educate me pls!

Does your website break even or make profit from the ads?

The number of ads seem way to small to be able to match the faucet expenses.

The ads. The faucet owners give Bitcoins... but they receive more with the advertisements they have on the site (or at least enough to stay online).

A lot the faucets say they do it to help promote bitcoins. Maybe they own bitcoins and want the price to go up or just want to promote bitcoin for the sake of doing so.

Pretty horrible way to introduce people to BTC. Here, have a bunch of useless practically un-spendable coins so I can make $20 a week on ads.

Faucets are a way for people with bitcoin to make money off newbies to bitcoin. They pay you a tiny insignificant fraction of a coin, one the protocol fights to keep from happening by making it hard to spend. You can accumulate coins at free faucets to about 0.001 before withdrawing, it is usefull amount and well spendable

Interesting reading, thanks for sharing

Wonder if faucets are still needed to spread btc given how much free press it had been getting lately

I doubt so, but now faucets are used to give those who are willing to try BTC a tiny bit of BTC.

I own a faucet and right now I wouldn't say I'm earning. I paid a hundred for the script and I'm making about 20 dollars per week for advertising.
So you'll be break-even in just 5 weeks. That's not so bad.
Also, why did you pay for the script? You can get one for free on this forum.

I didn't like the scripts that was available, they were either buggy or were using Inputs.io. I also have to pay out about $10 per week as well, so probably a longer time. But as my traffic increases I'll be charging more for paid advertisement. I'm currently leasing advertisement space for 0.02 BTC per week.
Ah, that's understandable.
Have you tried bitads.net? This way people can easily bid on your adspace.

Nah, I rather have the money in my hand immediately instead of having a threshold or something like that.

I used to run a faucet for a few months.
The whole point for me was to just have a break-even faucet. I could have made a small profit if i wanted to, though. I adapted the payouts so that i maximized what people would receive, without me going bankrupt. Which is still only "dust", but it helps to promote bitcoin.
I think most faucets made a profit though... Simply through advertising.
I doubt anyone ever gave a donation. Mine never got one, even though it ran for a few months.

freebitco.in is different though, this one uses adsense. I'm pretty sure the owner is making a profit, since adsense pays quite a lot.

One average google adsense click gives you $1 (1mBTC). An average faucet gives out .000001 everyday, which means with one single random click by anyone on the ad banners, the faucet owner can pay 1000 people asking for faucet money everyday  Grin

I've used faucets once in a while, especially when I first learned of btc.

But I'm wondering.. why do people run faucets?

They're just giving out free money.

Do the Google ads give such significant income to make up for the loss?
