WOW
This is really huge amount for domain only.
I guess buyer invested so much not based on the current market value of this domain but because he feels that this will be very good investment in the future, based on prediction that bitcoin will raise in value and popularity.

GAWminers spend 1.1 million USD for ONLY a domain  Shocked
i think the domain only sold $50.000
i think they should use money to improve their service / make faster performance & lover energy ASIC  Smiley

Is it valuable only because it's short?
I don't understand why  Undecided

domain become expensive, because :
1. the name of domain is popular (in this case are BTC/Bitcoin)
2. short/easy to remember (example : clothes.com)
3. previously that domain is used by someone else that very popular (example :friendster.com)

I don't think I would have gotten that much because I'd have sold it for $25,000.

The owner probably didn't realize he would fall onto a gold mine when he bought it. He must likely purchased it because of it being three letters.

yup probably just got lucky sick

That is a very nice amount right there for a domain, would love to be able to sell a domain myself for half of that but I know that will never be possible. I agree with some of what has been said above though, smaller domains usually go for more and something with btc in the domain is surely going to be worth a lot of someones money.

Gawminer should spend some money on improving their hosting service.

Seeing the feedback they have right now, I do not think they can last more than 1 year.
