Not that I know of other than some settings or flags that some use.It seems that the program doesn't seem to matter on memory speed but loves a good high core gpu speed.Overclocking your core and lowering your memory also not only increases your productivity but less electricity depending on the overclock

as it turned out, the speed on btcguild was a 15 minute average so after a few minutes it's correct again... I'm running my 5850 stock, is there a way to boost the hashes without overclocking?

You should be able to get more than 257 from your 5850. I'm getting 340 & 360 from my two 5850s (at stock voltage). I'm using phoenix with phatk and -a 5 VECTORS BFI_INT WORKSIZE=128. The 340 GPU (XFX) is clocked at 900/425 with AGGRESSION=7, and the 360 GPU (Sapphire) is clocked at 925/300 with AGGRESSION=9. I can get the hash rates a bit higher, but this doesn't seem to increase my share submission rate (and even chokes it in some cases). Some people have reported 400+ with the 5850, but to do this, you have to boost your voltage, and I'm skeptical that this is really worth it. Even if it is stable and safe for the card, power consumption goes up a lot even for a small increase in voltage, so from a hash rate/watt standpoint, I don't think it is very attractive.

hey... guiminer speed: 257mhz
btcguild speed: 57mhz
help?

also, is 257 reasonable for a 5850 considering im on the computer now? should this be higher? any advice?
The way to make sense out of this is to add two more pieces of information:

1) How long does it take you, on average, to generate a share? (Ideally, average over an hour or so.)

2) What percentage of your shares are being rejected by the pool?

The main explanations for this are:

1) Bad luck. The pool is judging based on how many shares you are finding.

2) The pool is averaging over a time period in which you weren't mining or hasn't had enough time yet.

3) You're broken in some way, so most of your hashes are not valid and are being rejected by the pool.
