I don't know much about Linux, but this was created for raspberry pi...Would it work on an actual box?

Nope, it's built for ARM processor architecture. But essentially it's a fork from Arch linux, which is also available for x86 (or x86_64)

I have used BAMT with great success up until the creation of stratum.  I still use BAMT without stratum because my windows machine is giving me issues.  But supposedly the link below is instructions to get BAMT up to code to work with stratum, but my noob ass cant get it to work.

Bamt and LinuxCoin are both distros designed for dedicated Bitcoin mining rigs.
LinuxCoin hasn't been updated for ~1.5 years though, and Bamt hasn't been updated in over a year as well.

Bamt is very nice if you can live with outdated software; it provides a nice web interface for monitoring and makes setup as easy as entering your pool login data and any GPU overclocking settings.

Unfortunately I don't think either distro supports Stratum, and ditto for any coins other than Bitcoin.  You could use a Stratum proxy but either way you're going to be using outdated software.

Anyone know if there is a distro of linux that is built for mining crypto? My current plan is to just use ubuntu when i finally get together the funding to build a rig, but want to know what my options are.
