Possibly a little offtopic but I'd imagine that doing this and renting out the machine for gamers when not mining is not worth the hassle without having a full cybercafe big enough for clans because the depreciation on the hardware is so fast you have to charge such a high rate people don't want to pay?

I saw a few gaming cafes running things like gta3 in Argentina recently and thought to myself "surely that can't be profitable", but does Bitcoin change that situation?

Ati 7950 $399.

Ati 7950 is close to the performance of X2 6950;
And can OC better. 20~30% over clocking has been reported on air.
Ati 6950 can only overclock 10% or so.
ATi 7970 utilizes 28nm technology. Also to note the crossfire mode
only gets a 60%~70% performance boost
not completely 100%. So this single card should out perform your cross fire.

And ati 7970 would do even better.

But the Ati 7950 is cheaper then two ati 6950.

So its almost $100 cheaper and you could get a less powerful PSU. A 650~750 Crossfire power supply
could handle two ati 7950. So that would save even more.
My suggestion would save you over $150?

Also you don't need a three slotted motherboard but that's up to you.
Intel is better at the extreme end. But Amd wins at price/performance.

ok, but when i start mining with my sapphire radeons, which minersoftware i should use with those to get higest hashrate with stock clocks and win7 ?

Low VRAM usually gives lower fps or stuttering. For example, BF3 at Ultra settings at 1920x1200 with no MSAA, uses about 1GB or VRAM. It will use more with MSAA on.

You can always bypass the VRAM limitation by lowering the in-game IQ settings, but then again, for playing at lowered settings there is no need for crossfire!

On the other hand, if you are sure you're staying at 1680x1050, then the 1GB cards "may" suffice for awhile still (2-3yrs?).

ok. if i had problems with low vram, i think i chance them to one HD7970 and put those 6950`s to mine somewhere 24/7.. but what happens if i play game which need more vram that my 6950`s can give? just fps drop or what? ill never think about that 

"should be enough" are words that will most certainly come to bite you back in the near future!

1GB cards are struggling atm with a lot of games (e.g., RAGE, BF3, ...). You won't have enough VRAM for high-rez texture packs + high in-game HQ settings.

Your PSU easily handle 3x6950.
6950 = 182w maximum. (that never happens in game environment)
Only if you unlock shaders and overclock all 3 cards you probably will get problems with your PSU.

1gb GDDR5 memory per card should be enough for 1680x1050 resolution gaming.

i get those 6950`s very cheap. that why im not buying 7970... yet

If you are going to use them for gaming, having multiple GPU and just 1GB memory makes no sense.

stock: 225W per card + 95W for cpu = 770W, now add HDD+fans+mobo+overclocks+usb+misc, it gets pretty close if even higher than 850W. Even if it's left below 850W, the PSU will degrade over time and you might see results of it in 1-2years.

I would go for single 7970(their price should drop as 680 is ~equal/better with ~same/lower price), which is about same gaming performance than 2x 6950. Also it gets rid of nasty crossfire/sli problems. Or wait for 680 gtx optimized bitcoin mining results : )

As the mobo only has pci-e x1 and not x4, for my knowledge it will require some extra modding to give the card enough power. Or just a proper x1->4x/x8/16 adapter.

im gonna get a new pc in next week which have a dual 6950 1gb cards and i5 2500k and im thinking can my 850w psu handle the third 6950 card??

i think my psu can handle third card in btc mining, but in games?

oh and if i buy a third card do i need 1xto16x non molex riser or with molex ?
