It's pretty easy to add a new badge and manually (or automatically) assign it to people,
Can we see the final design of these badges? Since the addition of badges is easy, why is the number allocated, 53 users? Will more members be added? Can you add most members by giving badges with several colors?

I think adding 5 badges "one for artistic design, some colors and the rest to encourage members to create better content*" next to the coins would not be a "rainbow explosion."

The badge on the bitcointalk account as a tribute to the best work is not bad idea.
I hope the badge is in the shape of a brush, it will look cool. Cool
You mean the current voting for the artist badge, am I right? I have this idea that it could be a pallet and a brush but let's see first what will theymos came up with the design, I am pretty sure that the feature of it is if it hovered it will reveal the true meaning of that badge, no wonder and I congratulate those winners in advance for getting it.

Could you implement this similar to how Copper Memberships are implemented? That is, once you reach x number of good reports, you have a 'paid' membership whose only changed permissions are the reporter badge. 'Wearing' the special membership would not affect the person's displayed title (unless this is an additional feature you wanted to offer).
Seems good too, but have you seen the badge of a bitcoin experts I guess that should be the same if ever reporters badge implemented, it's just my huge hunch that it will be the same like that.

Would it be possible to add a set number of slots, say like 3, and let users fill as many or as few of those as they like? It seems like this would be half of the work you are planning to do any way by adding the ability to opt out. This would be a way to have your cake and eat it too so to speak allowing use  of badges without it being a total eyesore.

I like this idea, that'd set room for more badges to come.

It's pretty easy to add a new badge and manually (or automatically) assign it to people, but with the reporter badge I didn't originally consider that people might reasonably want to opt-out of having the badge. Adding that functionality is a bit more difficult. Maybe sometime in 2020.

I also don't want the left side of threads to look like a rainbow explosion, so I probably won't add too many additional badges, either.

Yes, It could just be like the current coin badges which are increased as per the rank, a specific number of slots could be allocated and filled as the number of good reports increases. And of course adding a badge disabling option would work it all out.

Great point, there could be other ways to verify (without doxing). A huge downside would be that 'verified' Bitcointalk account can be sold/used in scam attempts ( making me reconsider my suggestion).

Yes, a hacked account with a 'verified' badge could be used to swindle more people and with greater ease than normally even if it got neg-repped and flagged.

I'm not saying those account should dox themselves or whatever. There are plenty of official accounts on Bitcointalk (from exchanges, physical bitcoin creators, artist, coin developers etc.). Verifying could be as easy as sending a special tweet (or DM) from their official Twitter account. It might even help combat scammers since there have been plenty DMs sent by imposter accounts.

How's Twitter accounts' security wrt to social engineering attacks? In case of twitter even their CEO has had his account hacked.

Plenty of users here on bitcointalk lose access to their accounts, but that's usually (always?) the result of their poor security practices.

I'd love to see a badge for 'official' accounts, similar to verified Twitter accounts.

When you talk about official verified accounts on a platform where privacy is pivotal, then it’s not much of a good idea. Facebook-like platforms would welcome that idea gladly.

Unless we see an influx of impersonators (e.g. theymos-official or real-theymos), we don't really need those badges for now.

Using PGP might do the trick, though I doubt it's really urgent. Post history and trust history should be enough to identify if somebody is an impersonator or not imo.

Anyway, looking forward to the reporter badge being implemented.

Having new badges being added in 2020 makes me both happy and sad at the same time, happy because of the additional functionality, sad because that probably means that we won't be switching to Epochtalk in 2020 as well.
Some important things are still missing on Epochtalk.

Some stuff that hasn't been implemented, is a big functionality of the forum and is currently "planned":

Quote
Trust System
Activity System
Post History

Build a porting system to migrate other forums
http://epochtalk.org/map.html

It's still going to take some time.

We gonna have to wait, OK. Quick question then, those 5000 good reports do we have to achieve them in the past 12 months or they are not time related?
I think if you have 5000 good reports it's OK to receive the badge , then you have to keep up the tempo and report some more to keep it there, reporting it's not just one time job. That will be fair for everyone Smiley both fit those who reported a lot in the past and for those who stil do it on a daily basis.

Maybe its possible to hide them as User can hide Signatures if they dont want them to see!
But i guess you will find a Solution about that.

-snip- I also don't want the left side of threads to look like a rainbow explosion, so I probably won't add too many additional badges, either. -snip-
too many badges are also not very good for this forum. But there must be some updates to 10th anniversary bitcointalk contest artwork badge, because this contest might only be held once and this is the last. But it still has to look simple and not make the left side of the thread like a rainbow explosion.  Cheesy

I'd love to see a badge for 'official' accounts, similar to verified Twitter accounts.
Official account for bitcointalk members? good idea,
Maybe there must be some criteria if this can indeed be applied, to mark the account has been verified as the original account without doubt.

There are no Designs or created badges taken from theymos.
Maybe we get a poll for those that he want to chose.
There are some real good ones in the thread and hope that we get them soon  Grin

There were a lot of good designs from that thread. Why not do the initiative of opening up a poll for all those designs? It may save him time while he is working on the art badge. I prefer just a single badge for all regardless of the number of good reports but a minimum is required before getting one.

Last going off theymos stating it was still on his to do list, but wasn't on top of that list; We've seen the introduction of the bumping changes since then so its probably safe to assume that its a little closer now than when he posted this message:

still waiting for it Cry

Sorry for the wait, when I went to implement this it ended up being quite a bit more of a can of worms than I originally thought because of opting out, preventing certain report-count-padding strategies, etc. It's still on my to-do list, but there are several things above it.

Will there be more badges? I think the result of the vote for the selection of art contest badge will be binding on the forum? Is there any update regarding Seeking reporter badge images?

What is the final design of those badges?
