Hello everyone,

I'm planning to build a VERTCOIN mining rig, that I could use for Ethereum or other coin if needed.

For now, it seems that the best value for money is the GTX 1060 6gb (~27mh/s @100-120), is that the case ?

Really the best value for the money is the card you can buy the cheapest.  I'd really take a look at the 3gb card, sometimes price/performance wise it is a better investment.

Card prices vary greatly by where you live.

Hey !

Thanks a lot for all these answers ! Really appreciate it.

I'm not sure I should spend more money (getting 1070Ti, for example) since it's my first rig : do you know if the gap between the 1060 and the 1070 (or even the TI) make a real difference ?

(for example, MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Ti AERO 8G is 469€ where I live, which would make the rig quite expansive (around 2800€ just for the GPUs) and the GTX 1060 is twice cheaper (around 220€/GPU)).

Cheers,

So I make a draft calculations for your references, you should edit to fit your plan Cheesy (I convert all to usd):

#1: Rig 6x1060

- Total hashrate for VTC: 114 Mh/s
- Total PCs' cost: 250$*6(GPUs) + 140$ (850W PSU) + 110$ (MB) + 125$ (RAM+CPU) + 75$ (risers+frame+peripherals) = 1950$
- Power cost (my cost): (750W*24*30)*0.1$/KWh = 54$
=>  hashrate/cost = 114/(1950+54) = 0.0569

#2: Rig 6x1070

- Total hashrate for VTC: 195 Mh/s
- Total PCs' cost: 495$*6(GPUs) + 240$ (Super Flower 1300W PSU) + 110$ (MB) + 125$ (RAM+CPU) + 75$ (risers+frame+peripherals) = 3520$
- Power cost (my cost): (1010W*24*30)*0.1$/KWh = 73$
=>  hashrate/cost = 195/(3520+73) = 0.0543

So I'm mining with 1070 cards, just because it could get high hashrate on most of algorithms.

Do or do not.
I'm waiting for the 1070TI too. VTC will be a great coin to HODL.

So for PSU, if you're going with 6x1060, 850W is enough (each card 1060 may draw 110W at 90% power limit, I usually set power limit at 80-85%). And 6x1070 1300W should be good.

I am currently running 6* GTX1070 on a 1000w corsair PSU, 85% power limit.  I am able to pull out 480 Sols/s  Equihash or 31Ms/s Ethash on each GPU and the system is rock stable.

I´m not saying its recommended, but it works Smiley

If you could spend more money on this rig, 1070 or coming 1070 Ti should be the best.
My Galax 1060 6Gb (230$) gets around 23Mh/s for ETH mining, and 19Mh/s for VTC (Lyara2v2 algo.) while my MSI 1070 (495$) reaches about 31Mh/s in ETH and 32.5 Mh/s for VTC. I'm using Tpruvot CCminer 2.2.2 for VTC, and Claymore dual miner for ETH:

https://github.com/tpruvot/ccminer/releases

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/claymores-dual-ethereum-amdnvidia-gpu-miner-v150-windowslinux-1433925

For MB/CPU: Prime Z270-A is very good, it could handle 8 GPUs with M2-extension, CPU G3930 is good enough.

So for PSU, if you're going with 6x1060, 850W is enough (each card 1060 may draw 110W at 90% power limit, I usually set power limit at 80-85%). And for 6x1070 rig, 1300W PSU should be good.

I mined it with 1060 3GB, I think it was 21MH/s at 60% power limit.
I prefer Celeron G3930. I have same mobo but for AMD cards, works great with 6 cards.
You don't need PSU like this 850W is enough, but for 8 cards you need at least 1000W.
I was using CCminer 2.2, best hashrate with Tpruvot one I think, KlausT was slower.

Hello everyone,

For now, it seems that the best value for money is the GTX 1060 6gb (~27mh/s @100-120), is that the case ?

I'm considering building a Rig like this :
  • Intel Pentium G4400
    Asus PRIME Z270-P
    DDR4 G.Skill Aegis 8Go
    SSD Corsair 60Go
    Cooler Master V1200, 1200W
    6 Nvidia GTX 1060 6gb

Any advice on the Motherboard/CPU ?
Any recommendation in term of mining program (CCminer seems cool, but is there anything else ?)

Best regards,
