I like the idea of using an old android phone.

Did the carrier put in a back door when they made that build? Do they still have the ability to remotely access or monitor the device?


I would only do this if you could reformat the device and install a version of android that created a secure bitcoin environment ?
Isn't the Android system is completely open source? Then there wouldn't be any chance for the manufacturers to install a back door anyway.
And this is only true if you compile the source code your self onto the android device(after having someone audit first) as the byte code from the android binary code could have backdoors in them.

I don't know if they still do this but i thought Google leaves in code that sends "statistical" usage information in your phone in the source code version... i believe you have to remove it manually(something a wizard would require to do) to stop it from sending.

It has come to my attention that the community needs an open source digital wallet solution. One that can be purchased and more importantly built by the user from the ground up (including source code).
 Who with me?

None of this, Wait on businesses to force feed us their limited and single point of failure Bitcoin lite clients.

First hardware.
We need something with processing power but can be purchased for cheap.
We also need a display screen, I was thinking full colour but we could go with a monochrome solution to keep it simple for people with out a great technical background in electronics to follow directions to put the device together.

The parts used/suggested should be things that shouldn't require soldering but it will most likely require that if your building it your self but lets see how simple we can make this.
