It's not just about the total wattage of the PSU's, you also need enough connectors for all the cards and risers. Having more overhead on the PSU makes it run more efficiently, cooler and last longer. As another option, an EVGA G2/P2 1200 W as the primary PSU would give you enough connectors and overhead to run the motherboard, all 13 risers using 5 PCI-E connectors on the PSU with the dual 8-pin splitter cables or pigtail cables and/or dual SATA/molex to 6-pin  PCI-E adapters and one card connected to the primary x16 PCI-E slot while running the PSU at ~80% of the rated power when dual mining, assuming you undervolt and power limit the cards. The other 12 cards can be run on two EVGA G2/P2 1000 W at around ~85% of the rated PSU capacity while dual mining.

BBT has a good presentation and overview on PSU's for mining rigs.

13 GPU rig is very serious setup for the first rig. Did you really already spend more than 5k euro for the hardware but didn't collect enough info about all parts? Anyway you can control risers by touch the wires of risers. If they hot than don't use them (wires too thin)

dont worry i didnt order anything yet, thats why im asking over here Cheesy

On the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ I use an EVGA 1600 W T2 (9 PCI-E ports) for the motherboard, all the risers and 4 RX 580s's together with a 1000 W P2 (6 PCI-E ports) and 850 W G2 (4 PCI-E ports) for the rest of the cards. I connect two 6-pin risers to the 1600 W T2 on each PCI-E cable, or 3 if it has a pigtail. I connect one GPU per PCI-E cable using the the 8-pin + 6-pin pigtail cables or with an 8-pin to 6+2 splitter cable.

Looking at your setup, youre using even more than my 3300W in total, do you think an upgrade is necessary?

I could power all the risers on my 1300W G2 doing it the same way you did, by connecting 2 risers per pcie cable, with the 6 pcie ports on the 1300W G2 that would leave me with needing to connect 3 on a pigtail otherwise i can only power 12 of the 13 risers. However this would mean that i cant connect any gpu on that psu since im out of pci-e ports (right?)

Would you recommend getting the same setup of PSUs youre using?
I hope this isn't too much babysitting to ask for, but could you point me towards a better solution including which and what amount of additional cables i need to get? Smiley

You can also use dual molex to 6-pin PCI-E adapter cables to connect the risers (two risers per SATA/Molex cable max).

if you are using rx 580 for your mining rig
you can use molex risers without any issues
two gpus in one molex chain should be perfectly fine

Heyo!

So I'm building my first mining rig but I got a little bit confused with the whole riser thing and which connectors to use. I kinda don't wanna burn my house down so I thought I better ask over here Smiley

First off, heres the parts list so far (some of the stuff are just placeholders so I can keep track of the parts, I'll probably DIY the frame):

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

What I'm aware of so far: 128gb storage is too much, can cut that, 3300W psu is a little bit of an overkill too and 4gb of ram should be enough
I know that I'll have to mod the bios in windows one by one for each gpu to have the best results in linux later on.

My main question are risers and their connectors tho.
I was following a guide on r/EtherMining where i came to the conclusion that i should use 6pin risers. So i checked on these. Not saying i will buy them from there, just as a reference.

Would be great if someone could help me out with risers/connectors/cables specifically for this setup Smiley

So lets use my overkill psu's up there for some calculation

The total of connectors on those 3 psu's is: 18 6+2pins and 6 6pins
They come with the following cables: PCIE: 6x 750mm, 900mm (m) 12x 750mm (m) SATA: 8x 550mm, 650mm, 750mm (m) 4x 550mm, 650mm (m)

10 of my GPUs need 6+2pins and 3 need 6+2pins + 6pins

I'm kind of confused with the details of cables/connectors on EVGA's website and I'm also not sure if my math on the reisers and cables is correct.
What I wanna achieve: Have enough connectors; have enough cables; don't burn my house down. Tongue

Please help a first timer out Smiley
