Gotcha. I had read that but I wasn't quite sure how accurate that was, or if it was just people trying to sell their miners.

Thanks for the help, I'll take this question that way!

If the idea is to make money, a PC cannot be used for mining Bitcoin.
PERIOD.
BTC has been an ASIC world for several years now.

Alt-coins - sure. Post in the section specifically for them and you will get usable answers from people who use that kind of gear.

I'll admit I've been way too long out of this to know how high-end those stats are (they seem at least entry-level high end) but the only mining anyone would want to consider now on a PC is for newer alts where difficulty isn't so high yet and you could look at modest returns as an early miner.

Take a look at the forums for ANN threads. For starters, an easy to set-up Minergate can help you mine the most efficient coins.

Hey All,

I'm about halfway through building my new PC, designed for high end VR gaming. I am going to have a lot of downtime and extra capacity, so I am considering mining overnight/possibly in the background depending on how intense the game I'm playing is.

I know next to nothing about Bitcoin Mining, but from what I've been reading online it sounds like GPU mining is most profitable than CPU mining. I checked this site and it looks like if I get a GTX 1070, at today's prices I can make over $1,000 a year by running it 24hrs (I'm assuming that's taking into account the major runnup bitcoin prices have had in the last year or so). Is this fairly accurate based on your experience? https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc

Here is the PC build I'm looking at:
