Why is this bullish in the immediate term? People who have massive gains from their Bitcoins purchased a year ago or earlier are free to convert them to millions of Euros, tax free. Isn't that compelling?

Exactly.
If anything, that's short term bearish.

Short term bearish, long term bullish.

The way bitcoin seems to be lately.  Embarrassed  It seems little news pieces keep coming out that could be interpreted as great news, but they are almost always countered with something else bad at the same time!  I would love it if we could just have a month of good news.  Sigh.  Oh well.  At least there is good mixed with bad though. That is better then the alternative of only bad news.

Does the tax only apply when converting from coins to fiat? In that case I would never convert the coins to fiat but instead buy my villas directly with bitcoins.
You'll just get taxed on the market value of your capital gains.

german government decided that no taxes have to be paid on gains of bitcoin prize rising (speculation) if the bitcoins are held for a 12 months period.

German politicians (like all politicians) are clowns and deserve a Josh-nose.

They have no idea when I bought and when I sold my Bitcoins. So this "12 months period" is a joke!

For the record (and the NSA (and the BKA)): Of course I mined all my Bitcoins back in 2009. All of them. Wink

aaaaand speculate

I predict a price explosion because of this news of exactly 0 dollar.

I'll give you credit for the LOL.

I am in Germany and in the past the German government did the same with stocks. Now it is at 25% for capital gains held more than 1 year.
I agree with the other poster, they will change the law if they have to, but hopefully there is a grandfather clause going on.
For some people that is a lot of money and could warrant changing residences for a couple of years.  Grin

The German government is famous for changing view frequently - most of the time with backdated revalidation.
