the way i see it is a popular place (even if it is just one place) is accepting bitcoin. which means every day customers that eat at that branch will see bitcoin and realize there is more to bitcoin and bitcoin payment than what the media is trying to show.

Even if it is just a franchise this is outstanding visibility for bitcoin.  I'm sure lots of people who visit Burger King have never heard much about bitcoin and so to see it being accepted in a mainstream outlet is a good thing!

Eh, maybe to an outsider. In reality, though, people should understand how businesses work. I can pay a small sum of money to get a franchisee license for McDonald's. I can then tell people I accept BTC. That doesn't magically make McDonald's accept BTC -- it just means I do.

In the case of this, Burger King doesn't care if the owner accepts BTC, Zimbabwe dollars, or rocks -- they only care that they are paid in fiat, in the proper amount, every month. They don't care where it comes from or how he got it.
It is very nice. You can make Bitcoin more popular and that is very good. I hope that more people will use it.
After they saw that you can pay with Bitcoin in the Burger King. Maybe Mc Donalds or something will do it also.

Wow Burger King in the Netherland now accepts bitcoins Smiley A great news for all bitcoiners.

http://www.newsbtc.com/2016/02/19/burger-king-in-the-netherlands-accepts-bitcoin-and-hosts-meetups/

I really hope this becomes a trend for the other burger kinds in the Netherlands... To bad the nearest burger king for me would be Maastricht, but even then i would have to drive for over 40 minutes to get there.

Burger kind from my house is just at 5 minutes drive , if they accept bitcoins it would be great.

Cool, I know a Subway quite near from here does the same but I'm still not sure as to how exactly do I pay and if they still are accepting BTC. I remember the news being about a year old

Then go and order and eat a burger and ask them how do i pay with bitcoins and share with us Smiley ?
That is so nice ! I hope that more things will accept Bitcoin, omg that is so good. I hope that Bitcoin will be also more used.
And that will be great also for the future, and we make Bitcoin more popular and that is also good.
Yes it is indeed very good. But you can never know what will happen later, and of course we all hope that more stores will accept Bitcoin.
But first Bitcoin must be more used. That is the first step. And the value must also rise.

People using this would be so infrequent the cashiers would look at you stunned if you said you wanted to pay with bitcoin.
I recall going to get this giftcard from gas stations that they print off from a machine. It would take 10 minutes of them saying they do not have that and then finally looking and seeing they did but had no idea how to operate it. Even though it shows up on a map that they all had this service.

Anything out of the norm and the kid behind the till has to turn on his brain, anything can happen.

Its really good that its accepting the bitcoin, I hope more burger kings in all kind of country's will follow, I think this is also a bit of a test if it works they will introduce it to other burger kings.
Also the fact that the Netherlands is also a leading country's if you talk about the bitcoin stores they are having.
I think they will be one of the first that are gonna accept the bitcoins for more things online and in real life.

I think they are also far with the bitcoin, comparing with Brazil they are pretty busy with the bitcoin both.

That is really cool I will try this out in Burger King Utrecht in the Netherlands.
You'll be disappointed, try Arnhem.
I'm going to order some food at the place near me in the U.S. then when I go to pay with bitcoin I'll be all surprised and incensed at their refusal, and walk out.  Wink

I hope its just a matter of time before this is gonna happen globally.

Well that is really a good thing if people will be accepting bitcoin in such kind of fast food chains. This is really a very good news although this branch is really too far and somehow this maybe applicable soon for future companies. This is very helpful in many ways..

Goods news! But apparently it is limited to only to one restaurant in Netherlands. This is individual decision of one BK in Arnhem, because this place is called bitcoin village or something.
I wish instead it was a trial move decided by global management of the company to see if Bitcoin is suitable as payment method everywhere.

places like fast food restaurants (burger king) are the best place to start spread the word about bitcoin because the is always all kinds of people who are eating there and it never will be restricted to a particular group of people like steam accepting bitcoin which is only gamers.
Well not really, cause there might be a variety of age's visit such places to eat or to spend some time and using bitcoins involves a lot more headache than cash.

Wow just imagine what would happen if the whole franchise would accept bitcoin. The coin would get such a big boost.
Financially and PR wise.
Hopefully it is test for at least Netherlands.
I don't think so as it has already been spread around hundred other places there.Read the article.

Eh, maybe to an outsider. In reality, though, people should understand how businesses work. I can pay a small sum of money to get a franchisee license for McDonald's. I can then tell people I accept BTC. That doesn't magically make McDonald's accept BTC -- it just means I do.

Sure, but any franchise has prescribed guidelines on how to operate within their standards. I was part of a super market franchise a few years ago, and they even dictated where I could buy from and in what quantities. I got fed up with these strict guidelines, or let's rather call it rules and I sold the business. If the main franchise have some issues with Bitcoin, they will make sure you hear about that. You will jump through a lot of hoops to keep them happy, even paying more for stuff from their list of suppliers, when you can get the same product cheaper from another. It is just the way they work. ^hmmmmm^

The companies like Coinbase and Bitpay must approach them, not the franchisee.

Well in the end it's still a brick-and-mortar merchant, something that bitcoin needs for continued patronage.

I hope lots of stores here in my country would accept btc too, here in mine, only 1 or 2 uptown stores in the city's finance district accepts btc.

i hope so too.

any kind of physical good store that starts accepting bitcoin in the real world is one big step for bitcoin's future.

even if they only put up a sign saying bitcoin is accepted here on their window it is great.

If even half of the fast food chains in the US accepted btc, I bet the price would sky rocket.
I don't see any correlation between acceptance by general services and bitcoin price. Care to explain?
The correlation lies in the demand of bitcoins from markets. Imagine: half of the fast food chains in all of the United States (which is a ridiculous amount) states that they accept bitcoin. Suddenly, that gives bitcoin more publicity and demand (from the chains) and would interest more people to join in the fun. Eventually, you have the general public being knowledgeable about bitcoin (even a little bit) as a payment option and perhaps some will delve deeper. This creates more trading opportunities... Plus, it could remove the negative media portrayal of how bitcoin is shifted at least a little bit.

Wow this is just great news. We need more of this huge companies to accept bitcoin and believe me bitcoin will get mass adoption in no time.
This kind of news make my day.

Read my previous post. This is not a huge company -- it's a franchise. Burger King has NOT started accepting BTC... a single owner of ONE of the tens of thousands of locations has. Two VERY different things.

Guys, I don't think this is all Burger Kings... it's a franchise. This is like saying "McDonald's now has video games!" when there's just one that has it and it's local to you. Franchisees are all different. One accepting BTC simply means the person that owns that specific one likes BTC.

yeah, that might be, but it is still a start. I think each and every one place that starts accepting bitcoin is one little step towards the future of bitcoin.
all these businesses even small ones have a lot of customers who see a real life application for bitcoin instead of hearing an FUD news everyday in the media.

Every Burger King around me has been dinged for cleanliness and the last time I went through my burger tasted like hand soap. Thanks to that I stopped eating out and cut 20 pounds making my own food.
Other aspect that will sound a bit bad is Burger King around me are owned mostly by people that English is a second language and ordering through a microphone is a headache.

But yeah good for bitcoin just to bad it was not Mcdonalds or Dominoes, think that would be way more of a bump.

The Burger King Arnhem branch also announced that anyone that pays in bitcoin will receive a second burger (Whopper) for free

Good stuff Grin Hopefully Dominos pizza , McDonald , PizzaHut and others will follow them .
Got a question though (I can't know for sure since we don't have those fast foods here) , Payment methods accepted depends on the owner of that Burger king ? or the payment methods are decided by the mother company ? because if it's the case then why only Netherlands and not worldwide

Yes it depends on the owner of that specific burger king and not the whole as a company.

Really cool to see this happening though, hopefully more chains will follow.

A free burger Looks like a nice deal and it seems like Netherlands is supporting bitcoin considering more than 100 venues accepting it.
And this 100 is just in one city! I live in the Netherlands, but have not been to Arnhem in a while. It's the first time I hear about "Arnhem Bitcoin city", and I will for sure use Bitcoin to pay once I'm there.

Hahaha! Nice. A Bitcoin Dreamland for anybody. Way to go Netherlands. The rest of the countries should follow their lead now.

It would not be so hard you just need to scan the QR code to pay with your mobile App i guess. Also yip it's hard to understand the language of a country where you are temporarily living .
Probably but I don't want to seem as a madman trying to pay someone via a currency that the cashier doesn't know how to accept, because possibly no one has taught them how to . And as I said, I don't want to take any chances if say the Bitcoin payment was cancelled months ago. Just saying
So first you gotta learn Dutch and then educate the cashier on how to send/receive bitcoin transactions and then expect to get a free Foot Long Smiley sounds a better adventure than hiking.

Cool, I know a Subway quite near from here does the same but I'm still not sure as to how exactly do I pay and if they still are accepting BTC. I remember the news being about a year old

Then go and order and eat a burger and ask them how do i pay with bitcoins and share with us Smiley ?
I would if I could, hard not knowing the language of the country you are temporarily living in  Undecided

I rarely eat fast food and the closest one near me would be McDonald - next up, Kentucky Fried Chicken. Burger King is not really popular here (at least from my knowledge). Most people prefer McDonald or KFC.

Anyway, this is a good news that finally a fast food restaurant accept Bitcoin. Rumor last year said McDonald is going to accept Bitcoin. So far they have not implant this. Good job Burger King!

I hope that with Bitcoin, their can be a truly fast food restaurant. Order, scan, pay and go! Hopefully they will roll out this to worldwide!
