So if I go ahead with STORJ do I need to keep my computer switched on for 1 month to receive payout or can I choose to switch it on whenever I choose?

Which pool?

I have 12TB in burstcoin.ro pool and getting nowhere ... earned 150 burst in 14 days.

I read somewhere, don't remember where though, that burstcoin.ro are probably the worst choice. There were even accusations of stealing from users. I can't recommend a good pool. I know that pool.burstcoin.space is better for small miners but I have no personal experience with them, so I can't say if this is so or not.

the good side of burst is that you can use every hdd/ssd you have, even with realocated or bad blocks or ready to fail ( smart problem ) disks
as long as you can read from it, it generate Burst with no penalty

the other 2 you need to run over raid1 ( mirror ) if you don't want to lose money

with 18Tb on Burst for 1 mounth I have 17000 bursts
you can do the math with currect price

HOW?  What pool are you on.  I have more than half your TB and have made 50 burst coin in a couple weeks.  Please share your pool.

I'm currently using pool.burst4all.com  I'm fairly new and just testing the waters out so to speak.  However if what I'm receiving over the first couple of days holds up.  You really need to find another pool.  I'm pretty much just testing with 500gigs and I will make about 60 to 70 burst coins in ~2 weeks which is what I'm going to assume your couple of weeks means.  If you are sitting on 10 tbs that should be ~20x my number.  That is still nowhere near his number but still way better then what you are currently getting.

Stop using storj because I was mining it for a month, wasted a few bucks of internet bandwidth and many days to check everything every few hours. not sure about burst because they're idiots and banned my country from accessing their home page. because of US government policy/sanctions, my brother told me the same thing but I needed to see for myself Sad
I never received any storj coins, if you are planning to use them you are better off using the cloud.

Agreed. I remember checking out the cost of storj for my personal storage purposes and I decided that conventional cloud storage was cheaper and suited my purposes fine, especially since I also encrypt my data before uploading.

You have to rentover a complet month to get the payout, but its worth it if you mining at the same time.

Burst market is saturated !

Caveat with BURST coin.

It was been hacked just a few months ago and it may be a very vulnerable coin to be wasting your time and resources on. Why? There's what, 80,000 TB on the network? At $22 per TB (lowest on PC part picker, not lowest for a volume buyer), that's under $2,000,000 for a 51% attack on the network. Yes this is a very small and vulnerable crypto currency.

And as if thats not enough, there been lots of fighting between devs and mining pools DDOSing each other (burst nation vs bust team US). Red flags everywhere.

as I know Storj is quite a useless platform. Your HDD cannot fill up with data completely, and you won't be paid for this. And it's definitely not the right time to start up your business in Burst. The ROI will be so long and you cannot earn anymore because the coin practically mined up to the end. Maybe SIA will show us better abilities to live longer.

I don't know what your talking about, been running Storj for the past 4 months and drives do fill up... I'm at 325 Storj coins, pretty decent.
As for SIA, well I can't say I have seen this being taken seriously as far as hosting data compared to Storj...
I tried to get the thing going after finally mining 2000 coins and had troubles getting the thing to work.
Went out to do some reading and the horror stories that goes with that, oh my! Support seems scarce.

Storj support is amazing, live chat, fast response time and things just work, no need to farm coins to host.

1TB has been paying 34-38 SJCX/ month for the last three months. Not much but pays electricity for that tiny file server which is always on anyways.

Latest SJCX payout formula:

http://storj.us8.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=edba9fc4ce8b9095a31859cba&id=ca6a5bedef&e=6c71cf8a5e

In today's money that's $50+. /Month

I wish my laptop wouldn't keep shutting down can't afford new right now!

Another train is gonna leave the station and I'm not gonna be on it again if I don't get my S-hit sorted!

Storj is on the rise and there is a real reason why it is.

I'm almost tempted to ask for donations to get my rig up n running  Undecided

stay away from burst. its flawed and can be exploited via NXT exploits.
there is no scalability of the network, and all the people who had any technical understanding and capability had left the project.
the community is split apart and this coin is slowly dying.

id say go for sia and storj/maidsafe

sia can not be mined with hdd though, it's a gpu coin, despite being used for storage, so your suggestion doesn't make sense, and storj works with cloud storage, burst is still not bad for pure profit without looking at the project, you can earn something with a few TB

hi guys if i allocate 10 TB for mining Storj how many it fill for month 1 and 2?

last time i try to find out but its only fill a tiny , but my experiment only allocate 5gb though

any help  will be appreciated, thank you Smiley

Hi there!, Storj community member here.

First:

1- max size per node is 8TB, so if you want to rent out  10TB you have to add 2x nodes.
2- You need at least 1-2GB RAM per node.
3- You have to have a "decent" internet connection : Above 1/1Mb symmetrical.

It is vital to properly configure your node so these are the basic instructions we provide to new users:

- Step 1: Synchronize your clock

   see https://docs.storj.io/v1.1/docs/storj-share-gui#section-311-ntp-synchronization-for-windows

- Step 2: configure port forwarding

   see https://docs.storj.io/v1.1/docs/storj-share-gui#section-332-advanced-configuration

- Step 3: Stop Storj Share, delete the log, start storjshare and upload the new log to #storjshare on rocketchat and to this automatic log checker: ssdynamite.com

To monitor the nodes: https://docs.storj.io/v1.1/docs/nodes-monitoring
To check the logs: https://docs.storj.io/v1.1/docs/log-checking-tools

You payout depends on how well your node is configured and how much data you upload/download, which is of course directly related with how much renters are uploading, some days may be busy, and some not so much, it varies.

Here is the payout formula section: https://docs.storj.io/v1.1/docs/storj-share-gui#section-8-payments

Please consider joining our community at https://community.storj.io for more direct assistance.

cheers,

Meije

Yes you can do dual mining and since eth is in GPU while maximizing the usage of your rig with HDD for burst coin.
But make sure your rig can attain to do dual mining, check out your specs and watch out for your bill.

the good side of burst is that you can use every hdd/ssd you have, even with realocated or bad blocks or ready to fail ( smart problem ) disks
as long as you can read from it, it generate Burst with no penalty

the other 2 you need to run over raid1 ( mirror ) if you don't want to lose money

with 18Tb on Burst for 1 mounth I have 17000 bursts
you can do the math with currect price

It's kind of pointless to me to halve your disk space on the off chance that a drive might fail.

And you can use multiple smaller drives in Storj with whatever size you want so if a drive fails not everything is ruined.

If you have too much HDD space, it may make sense. Otherwise, HDD mining is not very logical.
Burst or other similar coin prices are very low. It would be more logical to buy and trade directly instead of mining for them.

The point is that burst and Storj are currently really really cheap. But if you can accumulate enough and one of those two takes of.. You have a good chance to recover everything. Storj does not block your hdd space until it is needed for storage which is good so while slowly you fill your hdd with storj content you can still use it. Burst needs farming full space rightway so you have to have dedicated space. But some say burst is more profitable. So pick a poison.

If you have spare space that you dont need I would do burst. If you have some space now but might want to keep your files in that space.. go for storj

Exactly. If you like the coin invest 15$ in it. It's not much and you will have more coins than what you will get from mining it for about 1-1.5 years. I really wish HDD mining is a viable option

STORJ does not have any profitability calculator that we can use to determine profitability, but if what they told in their blog post is true, BURST would be more profitable to mine than STORJ (if you call 1-2$ per month profitability)
I'm getting $5.50 or so per month over the last three months for 500GB.

I don't really understand how is that possible with 500GB. Everything they said and I read online you need about 10TB in order to earn what you are earning now (about 5$ per month)

I have set up 6 TB farm for storj. I tried last month for a few days with 1TB and got paid 32 Storj. I am hoping that next month it will be a much better profit. Storj coins are much less in number compared to burst. Storj has not been going down and they keep updating client regularly. Its more like plug and play type of software. Burst needs creating farms and then farming on it using different client (just a bit more work)

I'd mine burst as the profit potential each month is well defined. Keep in mind you'll need lots of hard drives to make any profit at all; I know people with ~1PB of storage that don't even make too much compared to people that mine with ASICs or GPUs with the same initial investment.

1 TB a month will very roughly get you:
 - $0.043 with SIA because only 4% usage (40MB) is expected (100% usage would get you $1.09) based on a calculator (http://siapulse.com/page/tools)
 - $1 with Storj based on some comments on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/storj/comments/5kzmxw/got_paid)
 - $1.36 with Burst based on a calculator (http://burstcoin.biz/calculator)

I couldn't find info how big the Storj network is but Sia's network is 883 TB and Burst's is 13269 TB (but that's just POW, not rentable).

I prefer Storj but you would have to run it for a very long time to collect contacts.
In 2 days I only got 355 MB (333 contracts) rented out (out of 2TB).

None of these are money machines and certainly not worth investing in a farm, well maybe for Burst but for the other two it's a bad idea because of bandwidth scaling but if you have some free space, why not.
