Most funny part is that every week they are supposed to start shipping thousands of units...

But they never arrive!

I've cancelled my preorder and will rather buy some chips for the price of a Jalapeno...

But even like that, I'm not sure I will regroup my investment when the chips arrive in Aug/Sep this year...

Problem at the moment is that it is hard to estimate what the difficulty will be in August and thus hard to make predictions... Based on my estimations, a 5 Gh/s rig will mine approx 0.01 BTC by August. Could be OK, only if the BTC rises. And that is hard to predict...

I plan on purchasing a Jalapeño, but as someone mentioned by the time I receive it I won't be able to mine shit.

I will make a great coffee table talking piece / coaster....Had my wife call in yesterday for shits and giggles to see when ours would be shipping,(order was placed in Dec 2012). They said that they will start shipping the first orders they received at the end of june. GIVE UP AND RUN TO ASICMINER.

I have read a lot of people saying this is a scam. But has anyone received they're miner. I was thinking about buying one. But I don't know. I see people selling they're preorders on ebay. Does anyone think it's worth purchasing?

Do not, I repeat, do NOT order from BFL.  I'd buy BTC or LTC instead.  Many folks here have different thoughts on BFL but IMO I expect BFL to go belly up and skip town before they deliver half of their preorders.

But then again, the USD price for BTC in 12 months could be $500 (my speculation is based on absolutely nothing).  If I had to chose between spending $1200 on a BFL preorder or spending $1200 on BTC @ current market price (~$130) I would certainly buy BTC.

Hell, I would even rather buy BTC at $200 instead of placing a preorder at BFL.

Well according to the pre-order page, they've only got 6 million bucks. Divided by the mythical 22 engineers that doesn't really compute to super-rich. Maybe "can buy a nice car" rich.

You mean the 20 Indian engineers that make a hundred bucks a month? Grin

Yeah I don't get it either.

Either those guys are totally retarded - or BFL pays them to post stuff like that.
What's so retarded about 5.5GH/s @ 34W?

5.5GH/s @ 34W would be a great deal - if BFL could deliver.

5GH/s @ 5W (as originally promised by BFL) would be an even greater deal - if BFL could deliver.

5GH/s @ 5W delivered in October 2012 would have been the awesome deal that we paid BFL for.

Unfortunately BFL fucked up big time.

But that's not the point. The point is all those shills and retards on BFL forums.

Example?

BFL_Jody: "Sorry folks, nothing new today".
Troll1: "Awesome! Thanks for keeping us up to date".
Shill1: "Great job BFL!".
Troll2: "+1".

BFL_Jody: "We managed to ship 2 Jalapenos this week".
Shill1: "Jody it's looking awesome! Looks like you worked through the weekend almost non stop! Keep up the good work!"
Troll1: "Well done, BFL! Finally some progress".
Shill2: "You guys rock!".
Shill3: "Keep up the good work".
Troll2: "+1".
Troll3: "+1".

The proper reply for all those BFL "updates" would be: "Get your shit together you fuckers and do what we paid you to do a year ago!".

if u can wait ~ 1 year, yes one year i said ... order ... so far .. about 35 people got their items .. 35 from 100k+ probably

Let me rewrite this post in a more emphasized and clear manner.

Only 0.035 PERCENT of orders have actually been "fulfilled" in the past... EVER. Yes, that's less than half, of HALF of ONE percent.

At this rate, it should take them only 5714 years to fulfill all of the orders that they have been PAID for.

So, yes! If you are willing to wait that long to get your miner, then sure. It's a great idea to buy one.

Fixed that for you:

Avalon and asicsminer will be super rich and BFL will be is super rich. but not super rich.

ASICS will be accessible to everyone!!!!!!

ordering now from BFL is a waste of time and capital

BFL already has our pre-order money, remember?

It's sad they had such potential to be a great company. Now they are too late. once avalon starts shipping tiny chips en mass and a million start up companies attach them to boards. This shits over son. Before 2014 comes around asics will drop in price and anyone who wants one will have one. Avalon and asicsminer will be super rich and BFL will be rich. but not super rich.

ASICS will be accessible to everyone!!!!!!

Why pay somebody to post for you when you can easily do it yourself. Let me think...oh yeah, I remember who used to do this ploy. It was Sonny's Daddy-O down in Costa Rica.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8S13lXUhDM

Quote
There he sits playin' Minecraft on his Thinkpad
He's a busy lad, that's my boy
B-F-L-R-Q spells liar and clad
Buys a clue for a lad, 'cause that's my boy
Well you can keep your wings and your harpsichords
And you can have your gold - it's all for show
I'll stay here whisperin' in my little man's ear
Hey, it's your Daddy-O
Biding my time watching Sonny grow

Making minin' rigs to solve them blocks
With fans in a box, that's my boy
They say they'll ship at thirteen o'clock
Well nobody's shock, cause that's my boy
In two short years he's gone from prison to riches
And what he did before that, we all know
So let it rain on their parade
For he's got HIS rainbow
And we're sitting here shining,
Watching Sonny grow

Riding on unicorns, he's off to bed
Old sleepyhead, that's my boy
Gotta drink some wine and get totally poshed
A teddybear named Josh, that's my boy
What's that you say Lord, come on it's time to go?
Well save me a place I'll be there in an eon or so
I think I'll stay right here
And watch them cocksuckers get snowed
Me and God are watching Sonny grow
Me and God are watching Sonny grow

Don't buy one. I can guaranty that you'll regret it when you see the hardware to come in the next months and year.

Hardware from whom? Won't it cost even more?

You can see for yourself exactly what is cooking on the following website:

http://bfl.ptz.ro/

There are about 60,000 units before you, and you can calculate exactly in which year your order will be shipped.

One word of advice.  If you buy a miner from Butterfly Labs pay using a credit card.  This way you may be able to get a refund if by some small chance your order does not get shipped as promised by the nice people at BFL.

People have started getting the Jalapeno 5GH/s units. They shipped me one, and I should get it within the week.
Good to hear - are you being shipped a dev/review or customer unit? Do you mind sharing your order date?
It's not a dev or review unit. It's customer order, on 6/23.
Awesome, thanks for the feedback!
And now I see this: https://forums.butterflylabs.com/blogs/bfl_jody/165-tuesday-5-21-shipping-updates.html

Este Nuno gave you a very honest and short summary of your options. Truth is, no one really knows. If you want to get into ASIC, I would do some research on other ASIC offerings and look only at the products that have shipped.

Only a few Jalapeno's have been shipped out. Mostly to media outlets, developers, and BFL forum moderators.

A trickle of Jalapeno's are starting to flow to customers.

As to worth purchasing, I would advise you to read these forums a bit more and make an independent decision on whether or not you wish to deal with them. The thread in my signature is a good start.

Complicated question.

They probably aren't a full fledged scam, but they consistently act extremely shady and have no problem screwing over customers.

If you order now by the time you get your product the mining difficulty might be so high that it will take a very long time to recoup your investment.

If you buy someone's pre order on ebay you'll end up paying a lot more and you won't have any idea when you'll get it. If you get lucky and get it very soon, you could make back the investment quickly.
