So if for an item in production they take over 8 month to ship, expect over a year for a pre-order.
Expect an 18% decrease in reward for the hashing power for every two weeks that you have to wait (assuming that the exchange rate stays steady)
... and expect the RMA ratio 3 of 5 at your expenses and no clearly defined warranty on the product.

Butterflylabs is not legit.

They advertise refunds, but do not give refunds all sales are final.

I purchased a jalapeno which was in production at the time, it took over 8 months to be delivered, after 5 months I kept asking them for a refund, the email and lots of it was never answered.

So if for an item in production they take over 8 month to ship, expect over a year for a pre-order.

The only thing legit about bfl is there professional con men! Check there histories, its all there on file for sonny!

All these people saying there legit are so blind they can't see the wood for the trees.

There FPGA development was paid for by pre orders, delivered late and without FCC approval or any testing. The same goes for there 65nm asics which They setup a mining pool (eclipse mining) that josh 'cockroach' zerlan (ineba/bfl_josh on here) runs which is where the equipment goes and not to customers. And guess what, they just did the same with the monarch too

If taking your money to develope something then using that sold equipment to mine seems above board to you, you really need to go jump off a bridge and do the gene pool a favour!

This is just a small snippet of what bfl have been PROVEN to be doing time and time again.

As someone said about someone making a scene in front of josh, WHY ISNT THIS COMING FROM EVERYONE! If bfL are at any conventions there stand should be surrounded by angry consumers where ever possible. I might start a group up just for that purpose :-)

Like others have been saying, read around the forums first to educate yourself.

BFL, AMT, Hashfast, etc are mining companies to be very wary of.  You'd do yourself a major disservice not doing a bit of research before investing money into an expensive miner.

Hi,

I recently started mining bitcoin with a few asics antminers U1's. I was wondering if buttefly labs were legit, I saw their 600Gh/s cards, butwere only with pre-order... Has anybody bought from them before or pre-ordered one of these cards?

Also what mining hardware would you recommend?

Cheers

Lol, this is the worst "what miner should I buy" thread ever!  Most of the advice is horrible.

Simple answer, if you really, really want to mine BTC, do NOT preorder any device... EVER!  Buy only if it's available for immediate delivery from a reputable source such as Bitmaintech.com.

You will not likely earn back your investment in BTC though.  That is unless you can resell your miner to some fool on eBay when you've finally had enough of the noise and heat generated by your miner(s).  But it is addictive and fun nonetheless.

Cex.io is not for noobs.  Not for anyone really.  I lost my ass on Cex.io.  Ignore my sig if you can see it.  I'm just too lazy to remove it.

Butterfly Labs is Legit but I highly recommend not Purchasing a Pre-Order Monarch there. You'll never know when you will get it. I do currently have equipment from Butterfly Labs that mines well but I bought the on the self stuff. I also have 4 Monarchs on Pre-Order right now and I'm still waiting for delivery.
This is about the only post in this thread that I remotely agree with, and only the portion I quoted. They are legit. They make very nice, high quality products. They are plagued by shipping delays, and can never seem to get a product delivered in a timely manor. They have a small segment of critics that are extremely vocal. Josh is an ass to this crowd. This makes this crowd scream even louder, and hate him.

I seriously think half the people who replied in this thread are a little off center when it comes to Josh. If you put them in a room with Hitler and Josh and a gun with one bullet, they'd probably be learning german by lunchtime. Yes, he is a total jackass, but only to you.

I'm not saying every single one of their customers is 100% happy, but they are legit, and they do eventually ship products. I have several pre-orders for Monarchs, some of which I'm keeping, and some of which I'm selling because they have added extra delays. Can't say I'm surprised, but I also can't say it's convenient.

TL:DR BFL is legit, but they have a bad reputation. Research all the facts before you buy anything.

DO NOT DO EITHER OF THESE:

One really good alternative is CEX for Cloud Hosting. <-- NO
BFL <-- NO

Other miners possibly but do your research:
SpondooliesTech
Bitmain

Other option but do your research:
Buy BitCoin or other Altcoins and hold em.

When you see butterfly labs....simply scream in terror and run away with your cash. Then when you have calmed down, pat yourself on the back because you just did yourself a favor.

You won't get it anywhere near on time, not on spec and very clunky/noisy.

Don't settle for less, go elsewhere.

Look around and see whether you can find a company who 'under promises, and over delivers'.  This seems like a good place to start.

Be aware of doing preorders.  BFL has a history of not delivering on when promised.  The uncertainty of getting mining equipment in future time frame adds more risk to the economics of the mining operation.  I paid for a pre-ordered Jalapeno rig from BFL, by the time I got it up and running, I estimate about 2-3 years for that original investment to pay off, or maybe never as the network hashrate rises exponentially.    It's better to stick to equipment to be delivered in a short time frame, and buy something that can be paid off in 2-3 months of running it based on the current network hashrate.

Edit: At the point I committed to preorder, I calculated a 4 month payoff at the network hashrate at the time.

I was at the Inside Bitcoins in Vegas when a very unhappy customer confronted the Butterfly labs CEO in front of everyone.  I have to say, I can't believe for a minute Butterfly Labs is delivering expected results.  This guy sure was pissed off.  I wouldn't buy Butterfly after seeing that debacle.

damn noone happened to videotaped it?

I would love to see those assholes faces. I wish more ppl would be more verbal about BFL's scam.

Avoid Butterflylabs, it will take many many many many many months before you get your rig, if ever. Same with most places like Butterfly labs, do some intense research of past customers and any scam accusations and you will see. Unless you have many tens of thousands of dollars to throw down on mining rigs, I suggest you simply buy some Bitcoin.

I'm not into mining. But what I learned from my miner friends, that it is better to get a GPU rig and join a pool in terms of profitability. Pro-miners, please correct me if I am wrong.

I skipped the whole GPU mining thing.

Mining alt-coins may be more profitable, but it is also more risky. Script ASICs may displace GPU miners on many alt-coins before they pay-back the hardware.

With Bitcoin, you know you won't pay back the hardware (in BTC terms).
With the difficulty rising so much, it is hard to predict that (on the more efficient hardware) actually.

Don't waste time. At this price you can instantly mine bitcoin at cex.io .

Terrible advice.....

At this price, you can just buy BTC cheaper than mining.

I would suggest just buying btc rather thab mining if new to the game. That way you are guaranteed at least some btc for your initial investment.

At this point right now, I would only buy bitmain products.

At this point right now, i would just buy BTC.

Do calculation b4 spending your money.

Everybody with a short term plan has this advice for people looking to get into mining. I never tell people not to get into mining if thats what they want. You should try answering their question and not tell them what to do. Some people (Like myself) plan on building a huge mining farm starting with a few miners to get an understand how they work. So stop with your "safe" answer and give a real answer.
